Question 1

How lightweight is the Acoustica stethoscope, and what is its overall length?

Accepted Answer

Acoustica weighs approximately 4.8 ounces and measures approximately 29.5 inches overall, from eartips to chestpiece. Its lightweight aluminum chestpiece makes it comfortable to wear around your neck through a full shift.

Question 2

Is the Acoustica latex-free, and which eartip size should I use for long clinicals?

Accepted Answer

Yes, Acoustica is latex-free. It includes 3 pairs of ComfortSeal soft silicone eartips in small, medium and large, so nursing students can choose the size that gives a comfortable fit and a secure sound seal.

Question 3

What keeps the eartips from coming off while I'm using my stethoscope?

Accepted Answer

Acoustica uses patented SafetyLock eartip adaptors designed to keep the eartips secured to the headset, so nurses can move between patients and put the stethoscope on and off without eartips slipping loose.

Question 4

How should I clean my stethoscope tubing and chestpiece?

Accepted Answer

MDF recommends cleaning the chestpiece with 70% isopropyl alcohol. Wipe the tubing with a cloth dampened with warm soapy water, then dry it. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners and follow MDF care instructions.

Question 5

Can medical students hear blood pressure sounds clearly with this dual head stethoscope?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Acoustica is designed for auscultation of heart, lung and Korotkoff sounds. Its true bell is for low-frequency sounds and its true diaphragm for high frequencies, so you can practice BP, heart and lung exams with one scope.

Question 6

How do I tell whether the bell or the diaphragm side is active during an exam?

Accepted Answer

Check the indicator dot. Acoustica has a full-rotation valve stem with an indicator dot that shows the active side, so physicians can switch between bell and diaphragm quickly and confirm the setting at a glance.

Question 7

How durable is the headset for nursing professionals and students who use their stethoscope every day?

Accepted Answer

It is built for daily use. The patented ErgonoMax headset has a dual-leaf spring that adds a second layer of durability when tension is adjusted, and MDF backs all of its stethoscopes on materials and craftsmanship.

Question 8

Can I get replacement eartips and diaphragms for my stethoscope later on?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Through MDF's Parts-For-Life program, you can request eartips, diaphragms, retaining rings, non-chill rings and name tags, so medical students can keep the same stethoscope in shape from MS1 onward.

Question 9

What comes in the box, and how can I keep my stethoscope from getting mixed up with classmates'?

Accepted Answer

The box includes the stethoscope, 3 pairs of ComfortSeal eartips, a spare diaphragm, a spare retaining ring and an ID name tag. Add your name to the tag so your stethoscope is easy to spot in skills lab and clinicals.
