I’m sure you should be able to return it as it sounds like a faulty item.

How come kettles are included under percolators, i thought i had purchased a percolator and got a kettle instead?

It does say it is an ELECTRIC KETTLE.

Is the handle black or dark grey?

The handle is black with a silver strip on the outside edge.

How quieter is this kettle compared to others?

Compared to the last kettle it's considerably quieter. It also appears to boil the water faster. It is a great pourer with no drips, which other models we have had do not have. I'm very pleased with it.
