I was interested in buying the Gillette electric razor. Normally on Amazon if you have a second box to click on its for the same product but slightly different. For example a choice of different colours or sizes. I wrongly believed that this second box was for the trimmer plus a razor for an extra £10. Reading the reviews the also referred to the electric trimmer. Turned out it was £40 just for a plastic razor and some blades! Totally had over by Gillette with misleading marketing and rip off product. Amazon said the item was not eligible for return, so they stitched me up too. Referred me to Gillette tech support and then had the cheek to send an email asking how I got on. Well, I didn't get on because my contract is with you Amazon! Buyer beware.

In the kit you get a handle, 8 blades, tube of cream, and protective cover which fits securely over the blade on the handle. There is an insert with a QR code to a video, which is unsurprisingly not very graphic, bloke wearing boxer shorts, performing some very vague motions to show you the sort of general direction to proceed. It's important to know that you really need to have an electric hair trimmer and get rid of as much as you can with that beforehand, at least on the first go. If you are doing it regularly then you can skip that step. Having only used electric trimmers before in that area, I was a bit nervous using steel blades, given the contours which are rather different to one's face and the difficulty of seeing clearly what you are doing. This kit is quite good though, decent lubricating cream and good sharp blade with the flexibility of movement in the head and managed to use it without cutting myself. I'm quite impressed. The price for the kit is quite hefty, but this is pretty much par for the course with Gillette these days when you're paying over 4 quid per head for their best heads, plus the handle and a decent size tube of cream.

So… not entirely sure what the difference here between a normal razor and this intimate razor. This arrives in a discreet plain brown box which avoids awkward children questions! Inside there is a razor handle, a travel 'case' that covers the blade part, a wall mounted hanger, 8 blades and some mositurising shaving cream. Given the cost of genuine blades alone this set is realtively good value for money at approx £6 per blade (still a lot but like I say... relatively). The handle looks like most Gillette handles but is a pleasant matt black that blends into the bathroom well (if you have a dark bathroom that is!). The blades do look identical to normal Gillette blades in my untrained opinion. It provides a very smooth experience and used in conjunction with the supplied cream leaves things smooth with little (if any) irritation. All in all a really good product, but not sure I can say it is value for money given the price.

Whilst this is an ezcellent razor, well designed and with a nicely swivelling head, it is very expensive at over £50. Even with eight blades included, that seems a lot to pay for a razor which, when all is said and done, doesn't do anything more than any of the company's other razors. Yes, it glides smoothly, and yes there are two moisturising bars on each head, but I'm not sure that those benefits necessarily justify the price. Nor does the fact that there is shaving cream included (although it is undoubtedly good quality cream). I'm not really sure what makes this an 'intimate' razor, either, rather than any other of the many different designs available. It works well, but no more so than any other good razor. Overall, whilst this is the usual excellent Gillette quality, I think it is rather expensive for what you get. You certainly won't be disappointed with the results but you may wonder why you paid quite so much.
