I recently used this for five months on an extended stay away from home. I work remotely, and had the opportunity to take my RV to a remote part of the state for an extended stay. I bought this router, hoping it would give me a secure network and more solid connection to the RV park wifi. It didn't disappoint! I had it up and running within a few minutes and it maintained a solid connection for five months, even through work meetings, file sharing and streaming movies. I love that you can set it to maintain a 2.4Ghz or 5G connection. The park offers both, and other pocket routers I've tried would always end up switching back to 2.4, leading to a slow connection and lots of issues during video calls. Not a problem with this router! I did have to reset it a couple of times during my stay, but that corrected slowdowns right away. Absolutely would buy this again. I recommend it for anyone who travels on business to set up a simple, secure connection for all your devices. It can't fix a slow ISP or outdated hotel/RV park infrastructure, but it does improve whatever you're working with.

The build quality is quite decent. It feels sturdy enough to handle the rigors of being packed and unpacked in a travel bag, which is exactly what you need. My only wish would be for future iterations to embrace modularity. The potential for this device could be expanded immensely with support for add-on modules. Imagine being able to snap on a small UPS for uninterrupted power or an NVMe module for ultra-fast onboard storage. That would elevate it from a great travel router to an indispensable mobile powerhouse. Overall, this is an excellent product that I'd highly recommend to any fellow techy looking for top-tier performance on the go. It's a solid piece of kit with a very bright future.

I really like the functionality of this device. I have not explored all of it yet, but the wireguard support works really well. I setup my own wireguard server on a raspberry pi and have been able to connect to it easily while traveling. So far, getting on networks while traveling has been easy and reliable. It is nice and small to boot! The touch screen is responsive an logical. I like the user settable switch on the side. I bound it to my vpn connection so that I can quickly start or stop the vpn connection back home with a physical switch.

Best Use Case: WiFi Repeater + VPN The "killer feature" here is using it as a WiFi repeater. You connect the Slate to the hotel or Airbnb WiFi once, and all your devices connect to the Slate automatically. The best part? You can configure NordVPN (or your own home VPN) directly on the router via WireGuard or OpenVPN. This creates a secure tunnel for all your traffic without having to configure every single phone or laptop individually. Pros: Ultra-Portable: Tiny footprint, fits easily in any tech pouch. User-Friendly: Great interface based on OpenWrt—simple for beginners, deep for power users. Powered by USB: Works perfectly with a standard phone charger or power bank. Cons: Heat: Due to its compact size, it can get quite hot when running heavy VPN traffic. No Integrated 4G/5G: It lacks a built-in SIM slot, which would have made it the perfect "all-in-one" device (though you can still use USB tethering with your phone). Verdict: If you value your digital security on the road, this is the best investment you can make. Highly recommended!

This is a good, solid travel router. It works very well, but, giving it a 4 star because the app interface is a little difficult if you are new to things. I love the fact that this has AdGuard built in as an option, and, that you can setup a VPN on the router. It has many other features that make it very strong also.

I've successfully taken this with me on travel to an airBNB, hotels, and even the local Chilis. Works great, definitely do the setup at home, connect all your devices to it for the first time, and then take it on the go. Immediate WiFi to everything as soon as you connect the router to WiFi. Had to do a bit of fiddling to understand how to connect it to WiFi through the phone, especially when WiFi requires a sign-in portal, but you get better with practice and it all starts to make sense. If your new to routers like I am, the user interface and setup process is very easy, especially if your already tech-friendly in the sense that you know how to hook up your own devices to WiFi. It's very compact, fits in my tech bag, and uses any USB-C and power adapter as long as it supports PD in my experience. I get fast WiFi, have had 0 problems with drops or slow lag, even downloaded some games on my steamdeck at an Airbnb at an impressive speed. I've used a powerbank to power it as well at the chilis and it barely ate anything (I have a huge power bank though 25000mah).

I run my own IT business. Since discovering GL.iNet I have absolutely fallen in love with their products. The slate 7 was like falling in love all over again For starters I really appreciate the rigidity that they added to the antennas, the sleek look is in my opinion a much better upgrade, it looks more futuristic to match the new Wi-Fi 7 technology. And then more importantly, while yes I do buy these products for myself, I also sell them to clients as IT solutions. What really sells me on this specific product is how easy it is for me to hand this to someone with absolutely no tech literacy and with a little bit of guided instruction have them able to control and manage the device. We are putting ad blockers in the hands of everyday people where they can take their privacy with them on the go. VPN solutions so that businesses can have remote business meetings and file sharing out of the office but still together. My personal favorite use of them in my own home (different router models though) I like to use them as Wi-Fi to Ethernet adapters or Wi-Fi extenders. The device is themselves are absolutely phenomenal, easy to use, reasonably priced. This is the raspberry pi of networking. As far as signal strength, I tested The router in a bank (concrete walls, floors, and ceilings) And I was still able to get a signal on multiple floors at varying distances. As far as speed, Your ISP will probably tap out before this thing does. For functionality, the sky's the limit. I have one client who uses this as a NAS. Speed is reliable consistent. The ethernet ports on the back, for me personally as an IT guy is a lifesaver. And then it has enabled me to help a lot of different clients pseudo hardwire their equipment for better reliability. The touch screen on the front with the quick toggle options for the plugins and having the router come pre-configured with the ad blocker and tor enabled was just icing on the cake. I truly cannot get enough of this device. My single only complaint about this device, is that on the slate 6 we got three ethernet ports which although were labeled could be reconfigured. I don't like that we lost an ethernet port, because now if I want to hardwire two laptops I need to bring a switch with me. Or I use my slate 6. So even with that, 100% I would always get this product and there have been very few times where I have looked at networking options and not considered GL.iNet a valid option. In fact when one of my clients routers went down, I deployed the previous model as a replacement device for their router and it perfectly handled business traffic over a VPN for 2 weeks. And that was the last model, this one is nothing but better. I would love it if we got the three ethernet ports back so that we don't need a switch. But even if that was the case, I would absolutely say that the device is still absolutely worth it, you get an amazing bang for your buck and based on the things that you can do with this, the time you will save, the protections that you can put on yourself, how easy you can make your life with these devices, based on that alone it is highly undervalued. 10/10, absolutely phenomenal piece of equipment, And if there's any way for me to do so I cannot wait to be the first to get my hands on the next model to come

In comparison its Slate AX brother, this device delivers less jitter and latency thanks to WiFi 7. In part due to a mix of convenience and circumstance, my work PC must see a wired connection. It often handles VOIP & other VPN traffic. By combining a powerful wifi 7 router and this travel router as a wifi client, I remain assured this is the most ideal connection for the use-case. The Slate 7 is the best wifi client (Extender mode) because I can turn off its radios in the settings (before enabling Extender mode) which is not a function of other products. As a bonus, I don't have to deal with an app. I am also very conscientious of limited space, which is why I opted for this one instead of other Gli.NET products that basically do the same yet have some more horse power. If you have an older console like a PS4, PS3 or just older PC, then this is the perfect solution to fixing lag. You can set it up as a wifi bridge (Extender mode) and connect multiple devices. If you need more ports then get a switch too. The WiFi 7 antennas are pretty good on Gli.NET products. The problem with other routers is that they have a fraction of the freedom and functionality that OpenWRT provides. Open Source is always reliable from a security perspective & I like how the manufacturer is maintaining their products with updates (which in turn helps OpenWRT if coded is upstreamed). With the recent news about Netgear and Asus essentially allowing botnets into their products by not focusing on security, using Gli.NET products really puts my mind at ease. The Slate AX will become my new travel router since it generally has the same features as the Slate 7: WireGuard VPN, DNS ad/malware/bad site blocking, guest wifi networks, easy configuration thanks to Gli.NET's interface, port forwarding, etc. I'm genuinely impressed by these products as they can also be drop-in gateways in a pinch like when your current router dies or you need to create a secure network for your devices. It's awesome. I feel like the MSRP is a bit much and I'm glad it was on sale when exploring resolutions for my latency troubles.

Installed in our Mobile home together with Starlink Mini. Works perfectly and is most likely overkill for my use. But as we travel around, you never know what problems you encounter, and then I have all the features I need in this cute little router. High quality as expected and quite easy to set up.

I love this unit, it does exactly what it says on the tin. Just finished my 7-day Carnival cruise, and the whole family was happy. The mobile app is snappy, and the front panel swipe-left and swipe-right functions work better than Tinder :-). Have been able to power it off a PowerBank from Anker for over 3 days without an issue. Regarding the seller, no contact was needed, and the product arrived in a reasonable time and well packaged. The built-in AdGuard function works well and is so easy to set up, as is the whole system.
