GL.iNet GL-BE3600 Slate 7 Wi-Fi 7 Travel Router Touchscreen 2.5G

I bought this to address a specific network issue I was experiencing between my main system and a MS Surface Pro. I needed a way to increase the bandwidth between these 2 devices, and also provide Internet. On both systems I installed USB-C 2.5GB network adapters. I set the WAN port to a LAN port, and plugged both systems in. I connected the router as a client to the WIFI. Now normally, when you have both an active WIFI and ethernet connection, the primary connection always defaults to the ethernet. I manually set the metric on my main system to default to the WIFI. On the surface, I disabled the WIFI so it goes through via the travel router. This established a route from the main PC to the Surface via ethernet. After testing the speed between the systems, I was getting a solid 1.8Gbps. That perfectly fixed my issue, but wait....there's more.. Now that I had this very robust router up and running, I absolutely had to check out it's other features. The web interface is extremely intuitive and I quickly got a sense of all of the features available. I tested the VPN client by adding my ProtonVPN manually to the router, and it only took about 3 minutes to have it up and running and tested. It has AdGuard built in, which I won't need much at home since I run PiHole, but it will be very handy when I am travelling. There are a lot of options for remotely managing the router, but also it has an SSH connection. For the very tech-savvy, this is a welcome feature. There is a ton more I could spend hours writing about, but let me condense it down to this. I was worried about spending this much to fix a minor issue I had, but after seeing how perfectly it fixed the issue, and the additional tools that this adds to my travel kit, I am more than satisfied, This is high quality and worth every penny.

The GL.iNet Slate 7 is hands down my favorite travel router. It’s small, super functional and easy to set up, and gives me total peace of mind when I’m using sketchy hotel or airport Wi-Fi. I just connect through my VPN, and boom—everything’s secure. No more worrying about who’s snooping on the network. The router looks very cool, specially with the screen functionality. I love that it automatically reconnects to my VPN wherever I go, and it handles all my devices without breaking a sweat. The range is impressive and the speeds are solid, even when I’m streaming or working remotely. The interface is clean and simple—anyone can figure it out in minutes. Honestly, this little inexpensive router makes traveling so much easier. I just toss it in my bag, plug it in when I arrive, and I’ve got my own secure network anywhere in the world. Totally worth it if you travel often or just like staying safe online.

I run my own IT business. Since discovering GL.iNet I have absolutely fallen in love with their products. The slate 7 was like falling in love all over again For starters I really appreciate the rigidity that they added to the antennas, the sleek look is in my opinion a much better upgrade, it looks more futuristic to match the new Wi-Fi 7 technology. And then more importantly, while yes I do buy these products for myself, I also sell them to clients as IT solutions. What really sells me on this specific product is how easy it is for me to hand this to someone with absolutely no tech literacy and with a little bit of guided instruction have them able to control and manage the device. We are putting ad blockers in the hands of everyday people where they can take their privacy with them on the go. VPN solutions so that businesses can have remote business meetings and file sharing out of the office but still together. My personal favorite use of them in my own home (different router models though) I like to use them as Wi-Fi to Ethernet adapters or Wi-Fi extenders. The device is themselves are absolutely phenomenal, easy to use, reasonably priced. This is the raspberry pi of networking. As far as signal strength, I tested The router in a bank (concrete walls, floors, and ceilings) And I was still able to get a signal on multiple floors at varying distances. As far as speed, Your ISP will probably tap out before this thing does. For functionality, the sky's the limit. I have one client who uses this as a NAS. Speed is reliable consistent. The ethernet ports on the back, for me personally as an IT guy is a lifesaver. And then it has enabled me to help a lot of different clients pseudo hardwire their equipment for better reliability. The touch screen on the front with the quick toggle options for the plugins and having the router come pre-configured with the ad blocker and tor enabled was just icing on the cake. I truly cannot get enough of this device. My single only complaint about this device, is that on the slate 6 we got three ethernet ports which although were labeled could be reconfigured. I don't like that we lost an ethernet port, because now if I want to hardwire two laptops I need to bring a switch with me. Or I use my slate 6. So even with that, 100% I would always get this product and there have been very few times where I have looked at networking options and not considered GL.iNet a valid option. In fact when one of my clients routers went down, I deployed the previous model as a replacement device for their router and it perfectly handled business traffic over a VPN for 2 weeks. And that was the last model, this one is nothing but better. I would love it if we got the three ethernet ports back so that we don't need a switch. But even if that was the case, I would absolutely say that the device is still absolutely worth it, you get an amazing bang for your buck and based on the things that you can do with this, the time you will save, the protections that you can put on yourself, how easy you can make your life with these devices, based on that alone it is highly undervalued. 10/10, absolutely phenomenal piece of equipment, And if there's any way for me to do so I cannot wait to be the first to get my hands on the next model to come

I travel frequently and this has become one of my must-pack items. The core use case is simple - you connect the Slate 7 to the hotel Wi-Fi once, and every device you have connects through it automatically, all tunneled through your VPN. No need to configure VPN on each device individually. That alone makes it worth it. Wi-Fi 7 in something this small is genuinely impressive. The dual 2.5G Ethernet ports are a nice touch for anyone who wants to go wired at a desk, and the USB-C power delivery means you can run it off the same charger you are already carrying for your laptop. The touchscreen makes it easy to check status and toggle settings without opening a browser, which is handy when you are in a hurry. The VPN setup is very straightforward for GL.iNet's supported providers. I use both Surfshark and NordVPN and both pulled configs down automatically - no manual file imports needed. The WireGuard performance is strong and you will not feel a meaningful speed hit on a decent hotel connection. As a senior network engineer, I can say GL.iNet continues to nail the balance between power-user features and approachable setup. The Slate 7 is the best travel router I have used at any price. Highly recommended for anyone who travels regularly and wants their whole setup secured without the hassle.

I bought the Slate 7 for my hotel stays and frequent business trips, and it is easily the most powerful travel router I have ever used. Having Wi Fi 7 and dual 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet ports in something this compact is incredible. Setup was a breeze, and I love that it runs on standard USB C Power Delivery. I can power it straight from my laptop charger or a heavy duty power bank without hunting for a specific voltage adapter. The built in VPN client and OpenWRT interface make it perfect for bypassing hotel captive portals and keeping all my devices secure on public networks. ​The only reason I am giving it four stars instead of five is the built in touchscreen. While it is super convenient for quickly checking your connection or scanning a QR code to join the network, it also displays your Wi Fi password right on the screen without requiring a PIN to unlock it by default. If you leave this out in a hotel room, anyone walking by can easily see your network credentials. If the manufacturer can push a firmware update to add a required screen lock, this would be a flawless five star product. Even with that quirk, it is an amazing piece of tech for anyone who needs reliable and fast internet on the go.

Professional network.engineer and lifelong IT enthusiast. I do not consider myself especially knowledgeable about radio, though I do manage 70+ APs. This little device is so darn impressive. I have two other Wifi 7 routers, both from TP Link, one enthusiast and another top end. I'll say, this little GL.iNet is so much better in terms of usability. It was so easy to setup, is very flexible, USB C powered, has features I've never seen on consumer grade products before. I expected some things to be lost in translation, but not at all... Everything is perfect English, with proper context. The web UI is fast and the function modifications are as well. The unit never required a reboot either. I have an RV with many wifi dependent devices (environmental monitors, LP monitors, TVs, smart displays, cameras, and more to come). I need to have the same wifi network available to them where ever I go and this enables me to connect to any local wifi, tethering, wired connections, etc and retain the existing wifi network. I've only used wifi/wifi and wifi/wired so far, but am looking forward to cellular tethering or bridging. This has basic connection monitoring so it will switch between Internet sources (wifi, cellular, wired) as they are available, with your priority, and even some aggregation. The only downside is that it's 2.4 and 5ghz bands, no 6ghz. I'm really ellated by how this turned out. It saved me from an ongoing portable rack build that wouldn't included a flight case, PDU, firewall/router, drawer/stand, and AP (or two).

Excellent travel router for the price. Great build quality and performance. My prior experiences are with Linksys, Orbi, SonicWall, Ubiquiti. I'm reasonably technically savvy with IT. This Slate-7 has good wired and wireless throughput in all modes. Admittedly, I have not stress tested it to max throughput yet - no online gaming, etc. I have used this slick little gadget in an away-from-home apartment as my main gateway. No issues whatsoever. I can even set up a little NAS with the USB port - admittedly not blazing fast, but serviceable. I like the ad-blocker function. I like the display of bandwidth usage. Security functions are spot-on, as far as I can tell. This is a hell of a nice travel router, in my experience so far. My perfection-seeking ask would be... more belly-buttons. That is, I'd put more ethernet ports on the thing - four LAN ports, for example. As it is, it's one-in, one-out: WAN and LAN. But if you've got a switch downstream, you're good to go. Like the OpenWRT management and TailScale capabilities. I recommend this product without reservation.

Absolutely would buy this again. I work remotely, and used this in my RV at different campgrounds that had slow wifi speed or none at all. The extender option gave me great internet speed on my laptop and TV at the campground that had wifi. I used the tethering option to my iphone at a campground that didn't have wifi. I had great speed and connection. It didn't disappoint!

A very good and quick router, easy to carry and has lots of functionalities. You may need nordvpn subscription or other in platform subscription to have a seemles VPN experience. I have a Kaspersky VPN subscription so it is harder to setup and change configurations compared to already downloaded or supported VPN providers like surfshark or Nordvpn. Maybe the USB A port is kinda old but still there are many solutions to go arround this problem. This router is future proof for years to come.

Installed in our Mobile home together with Starlink Mini. Works perfectly and is most likely overkill for my use. But as we travel around, you never know what problems you encounter, and then I have all the features I need in this cute little router. High quality as expected and quite easy to set up.

I love this unit, it does exactly what it says on the tin. Just finished my 7-day Carnival cruise, and the whole family was happy. The mobile app is snappy, and the front panel swipe-left and swipe-right functions work better than Tinder :-). Have been able to power it off a PowerBank from Anker for over 3 days without an issue. Regarding the seller, no contact was needed, and the product arrived in a reasonable time and well packaged. The built-in AdGuard function works well and is so easy to set up, as is the whole system. YouTube is your friend for how-to guides.
