Followed instructions to the T and only was able coat a hand full of items. Spoke with an engineer from the company and stated the cleaning solution I was told to use was the wrong one, most likely the reason it coated only a handful of items otherwise works well.

This is NOT hexavalent chromium like another reviewer posted. Just because it is a chemical conversion coating does not mean it has anything to do with Erin Brockovich. 🙄

Neutralize the resulting waste solution with sodium metabisulfite or another reducing agent. It's cheap. It will turn green when neutralized. Then you can dispose of it safely.This is a perfectly decent product, and most of the fears about hexavalent chromate would be resolved if people simply knew more about the associated chemistry.
