EVEN MY PICKY EATER SON LOVES THIS STUFF!
I first encountered this item on the checkout line at my local grocery store. I bought it on impulse as I was looking for a quick lunch that contained some protein. As soon as I saw it I was sold because I love anything that has olive oil and lemon in it. Then when I got home and tasted it and was in heaven! I bought three packs and as luck would have it when my son saw it on my plate he asked what I was eating and I offered him some knowing full well that he is a picky eater. Well, he surprised the heck outta me by saying that he loved the taste and could he have some! Yes! I was in heaven that he was asking to eat tuna!!! I served him the other pack and just sprinkled some kosher salt on it as I did for mine and he gobbled it up! Now it is a staple in our home :))

Excellent high protein snack
I really like the ones without mayonnaise. The tuna with lemon, and the tuna with pepper are so good. I know I could probably put it all together myself but there’s something about the little combo that travels so well in a bag or is nice to have around for a quick protein, boost and snack. I really have a hard time finding these especially the ones without the mayonnaise with the tuna so I was really excited to find them here and it’s a good price and they are well packed with current expiration dates.

Type of tuna, change to light tuna and country of origin is now Vietnam
I used to have this product about two years ago, and received this yesterday through Amazon from bumblebee. The product has changed in terms of the country of origin for the tuna. It used to be a small handy pack, I used to give out to kids to take to the park, it has a small can of tuna, some crackers, and it used to have a small caramel in it. It was a high level tuna. Now it is a light tuna, and I read the ingredients and it said look for country of origin on the bottom of the can. The country of origin is Vietnam I no longer call this quality gourmet package for bumblebee. When I tasted the tuna, it tasted like it had been put through a food processor, fairly mushy. You didn’t taste tuna like you tasted it before. They used to have a small little gourmet package, fairly high level, but now it has been reduced to light tuna from Vietnam, I don’t know whether bumblebee is doing this with other tunas that they are presenting to the public because of a cost factor or what. But it does give them a negative consumer factor, which I have never seen reflected for bumblebee, as they have always been at the highest level, for tuna and other products they present to consumers. I was very disappointed because the other offering of this package previously had been at such a high level. This tuna is packaged in olive oil and lemon juice, and there’s another version with pepper. It also says on the outside of the package. artisan, avocado oil, so they need to reflect either olive or avocado, not both. I worked in packaging with a major food company, so that is why I was looking at the ingredients in the first place, plus I was very familiar with this package having used it for several years and liking it so much and it’s original form as a gourmet high-level tuna food item for bumblebee, which has now changed to be a lower level product from Vietnam. I’m sorry bumblebee has done this from a consumer standpoint, I’m sure it is a cost factor for them. But it has a a negative PR effect. I don’t think it is worth the gamble for them, but maybe there are a lot of people that will never figure this out. They have a lot of other packages that are tuna salad, chicken salad combinations with crackers. These are too specific tuna, only and crackers packages that a lot of people may not know about anymore That used to be offered as a high level gourmet tuna called. “ protein on the go.” Which is now called.” protein on the run”. I used to be able to find it in our PUBLIX here, but haven’t seen it for several years, I tried to order it from them, but it has taken weeks and weeks for their order, and it is still on delay, and I checked Amazon and they had it so I ordered it from them. I’m assuming there is only one version of this available now not the original gourmet version even though they call this gourmet now, I would not give it that title, being from Vietnam. I think there is higher quality tuna in United States waters, but it must be more costly for bumblebee and that is probably why they have Gone This route. I will call their office on Monday to try to find out more information but I will not use the other 11 packages of this product that I have gotten, I can give them away if I can find someone who might want them . My concern is for bumblebee and their relationship with consumers, and whether this use of tuna from the far East factors into other products and what that does to their standing in the industry, which I hope they’re concerned about, being a leader in it now, everyone is concerned about cost, but you must retain quality to keep consumers. Once that starts slipping, your share of Market follows downward they can’t afford to let that happen on a larger scale. It’s always about marketing and image for the consumer and quality of product. Is what keeps customers coming back.

impossible to know if you’re getting the easy peel foil cover or the difficult sharp metal tab cover
I have ordered item many times for about two years now. it always used to have an easy peel off foil lid (like a yogurt cup) so that my young son could open it during lunch. HOWEVER , all of a sudden we started getting the metal pull tab opening (imagine a sardine can) which is sharp metal and dangerous , it requires significant force to pull carefully so that it does not slice the hands. Small children Can't open it on their own and requires an adult or teacher to help them open it. (Like teachers have enough to do already.) Not to mention senior citizens, or those suffering from arthritis. Will have a hard time opening it. This is my one negative. If you are thinking about buying this for your kids, lunch, consider their age and if they are able to open a metal pull tab with sharp sides. with sharp sides. Other than that the product itself is excellent and the crackers are definitely upscale and a better quality. I just wish they were away to know if we were getting the easy open aluminum foil tab which is safe for children.
