Practical Photojournalism: A Professional Guide Review: An excellent resource and reference for Photojournalism classrooms - Sitting all the way here In Karachi-Pakistan I have just finished the chapter on Sports of this book beside a quick skim through the book. My daughter flew in this morning from DC and carried this book adding to the resources I use For my undergrad class teaching Photojournalism. An excellent resource and reference for Photojournalism classrooms. The language is easy for ESL students and covers almost every aspect of photojournalism that anyone need to know before hitting the fields. I specially appreciate the content on Cricket in the sports section and Fashion both of these genre are very important among Pakistan news journalists however the references I have been using to teach did not have anything on these topic. I am using the chapter on Sports in my class next week. Also wondering how this book can be available for purchase in Pakistan locally for use in journalism classrooms. I wish I can prescribe it as a course book for my next semester class. Review: Photojournalism to get you started. - It looks good. I am sending it to my grandson so I do not have his opinion yet.

For budding ametuers.
This is a great book if you know nothing about cameras and lenses, as well as photographic accessories and processes. The first 100 pages of the book are dedicated to this type of information. Useless to me. I already know this info. The next 80 or so pages address the types of work you can try out: Sports, nature, the royals... and then it tells you about travel issues like documentation, driving, air travel, electricity... Really? Oh yes, and don't for get to fill the frame and watch out for your background. There is very little here of substance. It is a 'lite' version of all the points the author chooses to make. I was looking for information about what editors look for, how to get a foot in the door, publishing, where to find information about different publications. Possibly about sources for grants for projects. Information I think of as having substance. I am very disappointed.

Not what I expected
Too much of the book was technical information about cameras, lenses, etc. Some of the more practical stuff was about working in the UK.

Comprehensive, informative and helpful advice for someone putting a toe in the water. Gives a very useful overview without being too technical. I recommend.

Divided into 11 Chapters: Cameras; Lenses; Other Equipment; From Sensor to Screen; The Working Photographer Preparation; The Working Photographer in the Field; The Working Photographer Techniques; Captions; Video; Media Law, Regulation and Ethics; and finally Careers. This book covers the entire field. The early chapter are also of use to the general photographer, but it is the later chapters that provide the kind of hard earned experience that is so useful to the budding photojournalist. There is a lot to learn in this book and after reading it from cover to cover, I know it's going to be one of those reference books I go to whenever I prepare to do something new. Highly recommended. 260 pages 9.5" by 7.5"

Good practical tips and suggestions. It is exactly what it is titled and leaves the heavy technical stuff to others. I enjoyed it.

Excellent book describing almost every aspect of photojournalism. While some elements are a little out of date, on the whole it's a great book for anyone who is in the business or just interested in the subject with some great pictures throughout.
