Laurie J. ShifrinBatik Beauties: 18 Stunning Quilts

I bought a used copy and was delighted to find when it came that someone had replaced the binding with a spiral coil, which allows me to lay it flat and to flip easily between pages. That was a really helpful innovation! The patterns, themselves, are gorgeous and I've generally found the instructions clear and accurate. I'm espcially liking the basics (how to mitre and bind)! The measurements for the quilt I'm doing were a little off - but on the big side, so they were easily fixed. On the whole, these are a visual delight and I'm looking forward to curling up under this one - the two big reasons to quilt in the first place!

The book contains lots of information on Batiks and many beautiful pictures. I took a class by Laurie Shifrin, we did the "Behind the Shadows" quilt from the book, page 54. Not only is she a great author, but in person is very friendly and always ready to offer encouragement. She will be releasing a new book sometime this winter. I got a sneak preview during a trunk show and believe me the color and fabric combinations are eye-catching. The only complaint I have with the book is that it doesn't contain the block sizes.

Even though this is an older book, I still really love it! I'm new to quilting, so this is a "new" book to me.

difficult patterns

It's a good book, but not what I was looking for.

Excellent pictures, diagrams, patterns. I have been looking for books using more batiks and this filled the bill.Thanks a lot!

This is an OLD book with OLD patterns, maybe suitable for beginning quilters...no challenge for intermediate or advanced quilters.

I could happily make many of these quilts, which is saying a lot for a quilting book. Mostly excellent patterns, even if some of her fabric choices are questionable.
