Helpful instructions for a professional finish
I like the clear instructions and pictures in detail of the procedures needed to construct a garment that fits and has a finished look that I am proud of. This is my second book from David Coffin. He is certainly a professional.

Well written. Explained all of the steps needed to perfect the fit of a shirt.
It was a very nice book. Every bit of instruction is very clear. I have not had an opportunity to try to make a shirt at this time.

This is a David P. Coffin book !!!
He covers everything you need to know. You need your construction skills and know- how, he does the rest.I would like to see him do more DVD's on shirts.

Is it worth it? ( Sewing Edition)
Introduction: This section goes over what the book is and isn’t and why you should try draping. I think this section is a great opener for this book and goes well with the overall theme. FIT1: Shirts: an overviewThis section goes over what a shirt is and how it fits the body. This is a very concise and interesting section. FIT2 Fitting :The big picture FIT3 Draping the fitted shirt FIT5 Draping the tight shirt SEW/PROJECTS: Basic shirt construction The sections has you complete 4 projects alongside Coffin. A loose Lined shirt Jacket, a Fitted V-neck dress shirt, a fitted wrapped shirtdress and a tight denim western shirt. Resources Acknowledgments About the author IndexOverall this is an excellent book. Multisized patterns are included. The photos are clear and clearly demonstrate the information being conveyed in text. Here are a few Caveats: Making a body double will take some time and I don’t think it was explained as well as need to make and correct as will be needed to successfully make one. This book is not for a beginner in any sense. While I did like the draping sections, I think it is best for someone with a bit of draping knowledge under their belt. As well, if you have not made a buttoned-down shirt before, I would make beforehand as this book is not dedicated so much towards actual step by step construction that a beginner or beginner shirt maker may need.Is this a must have book? I’m on the fence about that question, while I like the contents of the book I don’t think it makes or breaks my sewing library collection but this book is worth the price and I am happy to have added to my library.

not worth it
I usually don't leave reviews on books because I am an avid reader/ crafter and understand not every writer is skilled at writing. But this book was a train wreck in writing. This has got to be the most aggravating DIY book ever. There is no continuity, all sections are intermingled in terms of layout. Only if you read it from start to finish will you get some sense of layout. And guess what? the patterns you do actually need are in pdf format on the author's website. The reason I paid $27 was so I wouldn't have to do that. Only the arm curves and yokes come with the book. No collar or placket or arms or cuffs. And the worse part of it all was that it felt like I was reading the script of a YouTube video that's not even in a script format. It's just a long ramble of run-on sentences.Honestly the best piece of advice I can give is: if the author has a video explaining his technique somewhere, you're better off paying and looking at that instead. The pics are ok but not really helpful if you don't know what to look for.

Wonderful resource for sewing shirts
Sewing Shirts with a Perfect Fit is a new comprehensive technical design and sewing guide for shirts. Released 20th Dec 2018 on Quarto's Quarry imprint, it's 144 pages and available in ebook and paperback formats.Anyone who has sewn from purchased 'standard' paper patterns knows how much fiddling and fitting is necessary to achieve really good results. This book takes a vital wardrobe staple, the shirt, and shows how to drape, fit, create a pattern muslin, choose fabric, along with thorough construction and finishing information. The instructions are very well photographed and the tutorials are very clearly written in a clear step-by-step manner. The book is peppered with sidebars covering fitting and compensating for common body anomalies such as uneven and rounded shoulders, 'bodybuilder' shoulders/arms, protruding abdomen, and others. After an explanatory introduction about shirts, their parts, and different outline shapes, there are three chapters on creating loose-fitting, close-fitting, and tight-fitting shirts. The book also includes four design projects. There is a cross referenced index and resource list.Although this book presupposes some familiarity with sewing, a keen beginner could follow the directions (especially if they have occasional access to a sewing mentor/friend). Advanced sewists will also find value here for getting the best results. I admit that I'm quite guilty of wanting to rush ahead and finish a project RIGHT NOW. I'm the bad sewist who cuts into the 'good' fabric without fitting or making a muslin. I'm the bad knitter who generally skips gauge swatching before starting a new project. This book really has inspired me to do better and drape fit my next shirts as well as creating good muslins/slopers.Five stars. This is a superlatively written book.Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

Fascinating look at draping shirts
Book arrived well packaged and on time. I’ve been dipping in and out of this lovely book. It is my first book by Coffin and i’ve Been very much looking forward to reading it. The book is written in a very accessible style and an engaging tone. The chapters are arranged in a logical fashion and focus on draping shirts or blouses. A chapter on special aspects, like interesting collars and a section on construction round out the book. Included pattern sheets (they include a yoke and pattern shapes for armhole curves and a sleeve cap) allow one to create the basic shirt shapes as part of the draping process. The book is very well illustrated with clear photograph and detailed explanations. In addition, there is a very interesting update on hoe to create body doubles, which seem to update the duck tape method. After reading this book, I feel able to tackle a shirt, which would be a first for me (usually I make skirts, dresses and knit shirts.
