Failed the silicone pinch test
I ordered these to have a go at making the Dubai chocolate that is attracting so much attention: the filling (made of kadayif, pistachio and tahini) sounds like something I'd definitely enjoy. These moulds look good: the silicone is thick and quite firm, and the 'heartbeat' moulding is clear. The moulds are 2cm deep, producing a hefty chocolate bar. However, I try to avoid plastics and plasticisers in anything that I cook and eat with. As many chemicals used in plastic production are fat-soluble, and chocolate has a high fat content, I would be concerned about what exactly might leach into my chocolate from the moulds. The listing claims these moulds are made using food-safe silicone, and that it is 'Bisphenol-A (BPA) Free, Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) Free, Phthalate Free, Latex Free, Lead Free', which is why I ordered them. Unfortunately, there is no certification or verification provided of this claim. Unless silicone items are officially certified food-safe, I test them using the 'pinch test'. This test is an easy one to perform, and 'may' indicate the presence of fillers and/or plasticisers, which 'may' be unsafe. These moulds unequivocally turned white when pinched (see pictures). I stress 'may' because this test is not a reliable indicator of toxins, and some genuinely food-safe products can sometimes show the whiteness. Nonetheless, it's the best I have, and when it comes to toxic chemicals I prefer to err on the side of caution. These moulds are, apart from the question over food safety, very good, which is why I've given them three stars. For me the food safety aspect is the most important, so no more than three.

Deeper than some others, but a bit pricey! 🍫
This is a set of two silicone moulds. They both make square bars. These moulds are deeper than some other ones I got from Amazon. You can use the moulds for baking and crafts and make chocolates, frozen yoghurt slabs, jelly, wax melts and soaps etc. They can also be used in the microwave, air fryer, oven, fridge and freezer. They are dishwasher safe. The quality of the silicone seems good. At the current price of £12.99, I think they are a little pricey. Apart from the price, I'm happy with them. 🍫
