So when I bought my 54 gallon aquarium... I did not know much. I was told at the LFS to buy this API quick start (good product) and some stress cost stuff and all good start adding fish... so I setup this tank and put the API quick start in and planted plants - one melted and the others did well but 3 days later my tank had a chalky appearance. So I took the filtering system apart EHEIM ( great product) washed the pre-filter and everything cleared. Perhaps it was the rotting plant? Needless to say I had to take the tank down and reset it up at home- same thing chalky after 3 days. So what I learned is that is a bacterial bloom but i provided no fish and no ammonia (fish excrement). So basically the bacteria bloomed and died. Ok I got this now. So did a 50% water change and started over again after receiving the DR Tim’s Ammonia Chloride. Put in API Quick start again and now added 216 drops of ammonium chloride- tested in the morning after. Ammonia was NOW at 4ppm. That evening tested and had a twinge of nitrite - just a barely there. Next morning tested and ammonia about 3ppm and definitely at .50 nitrite. Tested that evening now at 3ppm ammonia and 2.0 ppm nitrite - tested nitrate just a smidge. This thing is just rocking and rolling along in days!!! Only days !!! Following the exact path line! Wish I knew then what I know now - don’t use raw fish or raw shrimp or a bunch of fish food to generate ammonia - get a good product for starting quick with bacteria and this ammonia AN you’re set! This sooo speeds up the process!!! I’ll keep updating... UPDATE: next day: ok now ammonia is at 2ppm; nitrites at 2.00ppm; and nitrates SMIDGE... between 0ppm and 5.00 ppm. Plants in tank are thriving NOW! UPDATE 4 days in: Ammonia 2 ppm down from 4ppm Nitrites 5ppm up from 2ppm Nitrates now 10ppm up from trace 5 days - ammonia 1 ppm (when it gets down to about .50 I’m gonna have to add some more in) - nitrites 5 ppm - nitrates 20 ppm now 6 days Ammonia at ZERO - gotta add a full dose again. Nitrites 2 ppm Nitrates looks like 2 ppm a teensy bit darker but only a smidge - Nitrates going down? WELL water is crystal sparkling but apparently I have to add more ammonia....so gonna do it Plants looking REALLY good - I wonder if the plants are taking care of some of the nitrates? Tested Ammonia after 6 hours after putting it in and ammonia is back up at 4ppm 7 days Ammonia BACK DOWN to only .25 ppm! Nitrites at 2 ppm Nitrate at 5 ppm <- I believe the aquatic plants are using up the nitrates! And keeping it in check. 8 days Ammonia 0 ppm (adding another 1/2 dose 2 drops per gallon approximately 106 drops) Nitrites 2 ppm Nitrates 2 ppm

I had started a fishless tank cycle about 10 days prior. It was slow going due to high Ph, and hard tap water. I started using this ammonia using the reccommend chart. I had previously dosed bacteria twice, and it seemed to stall. It was the jump start needed, and should be reaching end of cycle in a couple of days. All of my numbers are in line, and the bacteria have taken over. Just awaiting the final stability. Well worth it, and has reduced the time substantially!

Pure ammonia is harder to find than you might think. Some bottles, such as those you might find at a dollar store, say "pure ammonia," but they contain surfactants that are not safe for aquarium use. My choices were to buy a huge bottle of pure ammonia from a hardware store, or to try Dr. Tim's small bottle. Dr. Tim's was cheaper, so I tried it. I didn't add any commercial bacterial additives...instead, I added some filter material from an established aquarium. I carefully logged water parameters during the cycling process. Ammonia started dropping at 12 days, nitrites started showing up shortly thereafter, and in 18 days from the start of the cycle, I was getting 0 ppm ammonia, 0 ppm nitrites, and 10 ppm nitrates within 24 hours of dosing ammonia. Pros: Dr. Tim's Ammonium Chloride provides a source of aquarium-safe ammonia for fishless cycling of an aquarium. The price is fairly reasonable Directions for dosing are provided on the bottle. Even a small bottle like this will cycle quite a few aquariums, unless you're cycling something really big. Cons: drop for drop, it's not the cheapest source of pure ammonia out there. The Bottom Line: It works!

When I received this bottle a small amount had leaked out during shipping. Just enough to discolor the label slightly so it wasn't a big deal to me. The hole in the bottle that creates the drops wasn't properly sized and it made counting the drops near impossible as it wanted to come out in a stream instead even with slight pressure. Did some searching and found a base that indicated about 20 drops per milliliter. Since most liquid test kits come with vials with a 5 ml mark it was easy to use that as a base line for dosing. This also will save you from having to count out a lot of drops every time. The product does what it is supposed to, and is great for completing a fishless cycle. I didn't use any other products or established bio media so it took about four weeks to cycle my tank with this product. With the limited availability of clear ammonia these days this product is a good solution. I would recommend it to anyone starting a new tank. There's no sense in putting fish through a potentially deadly cycling process which, even if it doesn't kill your fish, will surely have lasting effects on their long term health.

I've been trying to fishless cycle a new 60 gallon aquarium with food. I realized that this method is slow and stinky so I decided to try Dr. Tims ammonia method. This product and cycling method is tried and proven so I'm sure it will work just fine. My beef is with the bottle cap. I received the Dr. Tims along with the One and Only with the wonderful Prime next day delivery service. The bottle I received looked nothing like the bottles I see in the pictures I see on Amazon or the You Tube videos. The small 2 oz. bottle pictured everywhere has a little "eye drop" type top, like on the API bottles. The Dr. Tims bottle that I received had a regular screw on cap along with an additional "flip up dropper" cap included in the package. First of all, the bottle did not have a factory seal. I'm not sure if that is unusual or not since this is my first experience with Dr. Tim. I also noticed there was no ammonia smell AT ALL. I found that unusual...not sure if this brand of ammonia, actually smells like ammonia or not?? So, despite my questioning of whether this product is genuine of counterfeit, I screwed on the "dropper" cap and went to dose the tank. I was expecting to be able to turn the bottle up and dose on drop at a time. Instead, what I got was a big squirt before I could even begin count drops. So, I have no idea of how much ammonia (if it really is ammonia?) I dosed. I tested this morning and fortunately it looks like I didn't overdose with a reading of .25 to .50ppm. So...there was a slight increase in ammonia so I can assume what was in the bottle was actually ammonia. On the downside, having no idea of the dose that was originally applied, I'll be flying blind from here on throughout the rest of the cycle. UPDATE: The product in the bottle was in fact ammonia and is doing a very good job of cycling my tank. Only problem now, is getting out of the house to buy fish to keep the tank cycled. I was a little harsh on Dr. Tim's cap. I'm alway on guard with I order something from Amazon and it's slightly different than the picture. The cap was still a P.I.A. when I used it. Had to be extremely careful to not let it squirt out...made counting drops very difficult but I mastered it.

This is a great way to get an ammonia source to start a tank cycle without having to sacrifice a fish or constantly be adding fish food. The bottle suggests 4 drops per gallon (1 per Liter), which seems like a lot but didn't seem to make a huge dent in even this little bottle in my 30 gallon tank. Will last a long time, although I would hope my cycle won't crash and I won't need it.

Right now i’m currently in the nitrite reading stage of the cycle. Took 2 weeks for that to happen. It also works way faster with a higher pH. My first attempt i had really soft and acidic water and there was no change for the whole month i was testing. After a water leak scare (false alarm) i refilled the tank and basically started over but added crushed coral. and like i said, it took about 2 weeks for nitrite to start showing which didn’t happen at all in the first try. This stuff works. Definitely faster than using fish food as an ammonia source.

Not much to say about this stuff. You get what you pay for, and if you want the best, you get DrTim's. DrTim's Ammonium chloride is a tried and true product for aquarists. NEVER add this to a tank with living fish; however if you find yourself with a newly setup tank, or a tank without any livestock, you'll need a source of ammonia to keep the nitrogen cycle running. Using DrTim's and a water tester kit, I was able to keep my filter media healthy for several months, so that when I finally restocked there was no spike in ammonia, and I did not have to wait for the nitrogen cycle to begin -- it was in full force from day 1 and my ammonia/nitrite never even registered, as the bacteria was already more than capable of handling the load placed on it. Would definitely recommend for anyone who needs to keep their filter running without any life. No good if anything is still living in your tank though -- they won't be too happy if you're spiking the ammonia levels.

Dr.Tims ammonia is a great product for setting a baseline for your fish-less cycle. Sure you can go buy a litre of ammonia from the shop but then you need to do a little math to figure out the correct dose for the concentration your bottle contains. Then you have more ammonia then you will probably ever need for the remainder of your natural life. But with doctor Tim’s they have to all figured out for you and it’s consistent and repeatable as long as you can follow directions. The hardest part is waiting for your ammonia and nitrite levels to come down as your tank cycles. Combine this with Fritz 7 or turbo start and you have a fast lane to a cycled tank.

I have a 30 litre aquarium and am totally new to keeping fish. Having tried twice both totally unsuccessfully to cycle my tank with fish, having followed all the guidelines, I discovered you can do the cycling with ammonia ( something the fish suppliers failed to mention when I was struggling with my set up! But we're quite happy to sell me fish). I downloaded the ammonia cycling information from the code supplied with the ammonia solution. It is very informative and explains the cycling from ammonia to nitrites and nitrates very well and once completed you can then introduce your fish. The literature did say after 14 days my cycling took 23 days until I was happy the ammonia and nitrite levels were 0 each day. I then bought and introduced 6 danios...well success and very happy fish. My tank water is crystal clear, I did one partial water change after 19 days. I recommend setting up your fish tank in this way as it is so upsetting to loose fish during the cycling process. It's excellent value for money and providing you carefully follow the instructions you shouldn't have any problems.

My aquarium size is 450L and I tried for 2 month to cycling and no result. I used DrTim's Aquatics Ammonium chloride 2 OZ and I put all in my aquarium in same time!! :-) and ammonia rise to Top after five minutes and after 2 days 0,0 and No2 rise too much, than didn't find colour for it in my JBL test!!! :-) and after 48h No2 showed 0,0 too. and now 2 discus are in Tank. amazing and Thank for this product.
