This is a great watch for the price! It keeps time well, and is a sturdy timepiece. I have purchased 2.. lost one and replaced it without hesitation. This watch is more durable than the more expensive ones I own!

I have carried pocket-watches for more years than most of you have been alive, both Quartz and mechanical/wind-up styles. I was pleasantly surprised to find that my watch is almost a gun-metal color, rather than the stainless appearance shown in the pictures. I have never before had a "skeleton" case and sort of like being able to see the time without having to open the cover, thus saving wear and tear on the latch and hinge, yet still having the protection of a cover. It is neat to be able to see the innards doing their millions of little jobs. Everyone I have shown this to is impressed and they think I paid much more than I did; I see no reason to enlighten them. I read some comments that the chain and clasp are a weak point. Not so on the watch I received; mine looks like a log-chain for a Tonka-truck and should long out-live the watch. The "crystal" may or may not be some cheap plastic; but, at least on my watch, it fits firmly and does not have a "cheap" appearance. For the first few days, it gained a minute or so per day. After a few weeks of use, it has settled into remaining as accurate as any other time-piece I have carried. When winding the watch, for the first time, wind until ONLY the slightest resistance is felt; going farther will do more harm than good. Don't expect this "resistance" to feel like torqueing the lug-nuts on a R-model Mack; this is a delicate time-measuring instrument. Don't "ratchet" the winding knob back and forth like a socket-wrench. Turn and release; turn and release. After the initial winding until slight resistance was felt, I have found that 14 of my "winds" every 24-hours is plenty sufficient to keep things going; your own "winds" may differ a bit. I don't recommend winding as far as it will go every time; wind only as much as necessary to keep things moving for 26-hours of so; thus, one has a couple hours lee-way, should one's winding time not always be perfectly on schedule. The only ---GRIPE--- I have is in the positioning of the numerals. A hinged-cover pocket-watch is SUPPOSED to have 9-o'clock located at the hinge side, and 3-o'clock located at the stem; thus, when one snaps open the cover, the hands and numerals are properly positioned for easy viewing. Having 12-o'clock located at the stem requires one to re-orient the watch after opening the cover, in order to tell the time. Prior to this, every other watch I have owned has had 3-o'clock at the stem; I have had to completely re-learn how to tell time due to this annoyance. Sadly, every watch I viewed on Amazon is plagued with this wrong face orientation. Other than that face-orientation annoyance, I really like my watch and expect it to be a constant companion for many years to come. Alas, after a few weeks of near-perfect time-keeping, I had my watch in the same shirt-pocket where I have carried them for generations. I thoughtlessly boosted a rather large heavy square-cornered item over into the dumpster at work and crushed the un-protected viewing window in the back-side of my watch, smashing shards of crystal/plastic into the workings of the watch and causing it's instant un-timely demise. This was purely a freak accident and was no fault of the watch, other than the see-thru window design. Considering this tragedy, I ordered a very similar mechanical pocket-watch, except this one has a "back-door" cover over the see-thru window, as well as a cover over the face. In all the years I have constantly carried closed-face pocket-watches, this is the first one that I have accidentally destroyed. I really liked my watch and hated to see it go. The moral of this story is that, if you actually work or play hard, beware of the un-protected see-thru windows found on most "skeleton" watches.

WAS 3 STAR NOW 4 STAR BUT.... Update. Okay it works, even looks nicer than what's pictured, and the case opens first on the front and a little harder press opens the back. It even seems to keep good time and so far has lasted over 40 hours, plus it's a genuine 17 Jewel watch. But let's face it, this is a cheap watch. I will take care of it, but will it last. My advice, if you don't have much money by all means buy it, because for the price point you're getting a pretty good deal, and of course it's skeletonized. If it doesn't last, I'm not planning to do a third update. ============================================= ORIGINAL COMMENT BELOW. More fashion then practical. Keep in mind the photos are seen through the protective cellophane cover. I didn't remove those because I'm considering returning it. But here's what you get. It's a 17 jewel watch, this is fabulous concerning the price point. But they didn't take the time to calibrate it. Mine runs slow about 1 second an hour. Not bad actually. The con would be the case, it's sloppy and misaligned so when closed it's pushed over to one side and doesn't close completely. The other biggie is the crystal, which is loose and plastic. You can turn the crystal back and forth. They say it's waterproof, I would suspect even condensation from a cold day would cloud the crystal. Any water condensation would probably not be resolvable. As far as the crystal not being sealed, this may be normal at this price point, because glue or a Rubber seal may not be practical. As for the plastic Crystal, the cover protects it, so this may be normal as well. The pro, the chain is actually very good and would likely not break. In closing, you decide, take a look at the pictures I provided. Furthermore, I bought 4 similar mechanical watches at the $35 to $50 price point. I got a good 1 out of the 4. It's a roll of the dice, again it's more about the case then the movement. 17 Jewel true, but low end Manufacturing. Also, don't attempt any repair, as these watches are not meant to be opened, the same could be said for the case, no repair without damage. Conclusion, I like the skeleton mechanical, but I'm going to have to go up to a few hundred dollars to get a glass Crystal, good case and well made movement, or keep taking these things back until I get lucky. Like I say, I did get a good one, but it's a plastic lens and not got covers. I love it, but it'll require protection from the weather and wind carried.

I searched through Amazon's complete offering of pocket watches limiting myself to watches under $50 and watches having both mechanical and visible internal mechanism. I tagged about five and this one was the one I singled-out. I'm very happy with my selection! I work in a place where I have access to stereoscopic inspection microscopes. I took the liberty of inspecting the workings of this watch. Having windows on both sides of the workings allows inspection of all the internal parts. There are solid plastic (Mineral) windows protecting both sides of the mechanism even with the covers open. The small parts are fun to look at and the moving parts fascinated me for several minutes. With the exception of truly microscopic dust, the internal workings of this watch look like they will last for years. The external casing is solid and uniform with no blemishes or scratches. I however will most likely mess that up :) The chain is long enough for me to attach at my belt, carrying the watch in the purpose-made pocket of my jeans, with length to bring it close enough to my face to enjoy the innerds and see what time it is. This thing is a fingerprint magnet which might sound like a bad thing but it leads to polishing and handling which is actually entertaining! So far, the time keeping has been accurate when compared to my Casio atomic-time wristwatch. the pocket watch is very much a "toy" for me as yet. As this is my first pocket watch I'm very happy that I "got a good one" as they say. Thank you very much Shoppe Watch and Amazon.com. update: Be careful of the chain. The link at the clip attached to the watch might be lose. Mine separated and my new watch bounced off the carpet. It's acting weird but I think it'll be ok. I have it apart and am looking at it. update: The watch lives! If it had been any more expensive I would not have tried to fix it myself... if it was any less durable I would have screwed-up trying to fix it myself :) Beware the chain but please do enjoy the watch!

Absolute garbage. Stopped working and there's no effing way to get a refund, because when I try to select a location to drop it off at UPS, it does not let me proceed. DO NOT PURCHASE

Got it for a gift for a friend that had always wanted one. He was thrilled. It's even nicer than the picture. RECOMMEND

So far it keeps good time, nice looking, keeps running. On the down side, it feels cheap, and the hands are hard to see, they need a contrasting color. Overall not bad for the money.

Nice pocket watch, It is hand wound and keeps time flawlessly, you can see the gearset moving inside the watch through the front and back. Well made and is decent.👍👍🙂🇨🇦 Update: I've had this pocket watch for a year or more and it has never let me down, the watch keeps accurate time and has been running nonstop since the day that I bought it. It works excellently and the pocket watch looks cool that you can see the movement running inside the watch through the front and back of the watch, and it is easy to tell the time with this watch with the black numbers and hands on white background and this watch has to be whined up once every 24 hours and you are in business.
