If you are buying this for your phone, what are the advantages of using a bag instead of just turning your phone off?

I never used mine because I have an Otter on my phone and it won't fit inside . To answer your question though , you're phone can still be located by cel towers even when it is turn off and it can be ping'd by police . From what I've heard the bag does not work . Find something else .

Is this guaranteed (not "can") to block GPS tracking?

Stopped all incoming calls and text. Could not start my car unless the fob was outside the bag.
