You Need To Program
Great pocket radios for cheap, but be aware these require programming. You can also program offsets and tone codes for repeater use, but you need the required license for this use. If you don't have an amateur radio or GMRS license, just program them for FRS frequencies. Speaker has good volume and tone. Battery lasts a long time in standby. Cable for Baofeng and TYT handhelds worked for programing.

Good radio. Read for complete review including programming tips.
The radio's form factor and feel are really good. Reception-wise, I am quite impressed, it performs the same as an Icom LMR. It can also be loud without distortion. The volume knob is not as hard as I wished. The channel button is great because you really need to press for the channel to change, so no more accidental channel changes. Transmission-wise I had no means of measuring power since the antenna is non-detachable, but do not expect much at <2 Watts. Yet for occasional use and when near a repeater this radio will be plentiful. I just wished the radio came with USB-C socket to charge it, and not the old fashioned USB-Mini no longer in use. This radio in particular that I received did not come with an FCC ID label; a quick internet search reveals that this radio is supposedly Part 95 compliant per FCC ID 2AQX5KD-C1. Yet, the radio label omits the FCC ID as required in Part 95. Programming tips: this radio comes from factory with Busy Channel Lockout (BCL) enabled. If you use CHIRP or the manufacturer's programming software, the option to disable BCL is not shown. However, if you need to disable BCL, use CHIRP and instead of "WLN KD-C1" choose "Retevis RT22FRS" as proxy and you will see the BCL column and ability to disable the feature. I am quite sure CHIRP will soon correct the WLN KD-C1 menu and add BCL, but in the meanwhile here you have it. **Update** I got another extra pair and this time they came with a USB-C charging socket!

Programming Issues
Spent much time researching software that would recognize and allow programming. Found a list message stating similar issue that suggested using Zastone ZT-X6 software. That did work for me using a prolific cable on Win7. Chirp and WLN software will not work and give error that radio is not recognized. Great radios. Good value. Durable and have good battery life. Audio is also much better than other HTs. I use them to access my 10W AllStar Link node with coverage of about 4 miles back to node. One improvement can be to enlarge microphone hole- will improve tone and modulation.

Best Chinese Radio you will find
I have ordered over 100 of these radios, and they perform exactly as advertised. About a year ago, I began replacing older radios with these, and they have been in commercial use since. I have them communicating with a UHF repeater, and I attribute their success to their simplicity. Even if a clip breaks, considering the cost at $15 per radio, it doesn't have a significant impact. I'm not easily impressed, but these units have managed to do so. These radios are replacing the following models: Baofeng 888s: Constant issues with antenna, PTT, programming, and parts breaking. Motorola VX-261: Encountered antenna problems and was about five times heavier; staff were reluctant to carry them. Midland Biztalk BR200: While it worked simplex, it wouldn't open the receive on the repeater with standard tones. I had to hack the CSV and re-upload, but it still wouldn't work. Midland ended up blaming my Kenwood repeater, even though the problem did not occur with any other radio.

Invest in a better set. Childs toy equivalent
Get what you pay for. One of the handsets pops when taking communications.

KD-C1 Works great.
I purchased several of these when my kids were still in school. They would keep them in their backpacks with their get home ziplock bag. I have since decided to revisit these so I found two pack on Amazon for under thirty bucks. These days programming is failry easy. They are loaded into Chirp under WLN in the drop down radio menu. Connecting was simple. They seem to come programmed with railroad frequencies so that had to go. You can program any frequency in the 400 to 470 mHz range. I easily hit a repeater that was 4 miles away. As well, these work quite well with the standard Baofeng/Kenwood speaker mic. They are fairly rugged but if you somehow break it or lose it, it's only 15 bucks. Will they replace your regular HT? No. But they are excellent grab and go radios for hiking, camping or outside work.

Great compact radios
These radios are great. They work as expected. They have everything you need. Best part you can charge while in use. The fact that they come with type-c port, even better. Highly recommend.
