Great Product
ClearPlay is easy to use and makes watching movies so much better. I'm glad the filter flash stick can keep all the movie filters and I only need to go online when I want a new movie filter. Also, the movie filters always track with RedBox so I don't need to wait for filters, I can immediately watch the latest releases. I wish I had found ClearPlay sooner! The one change I would recommend is if the remote had a "10 sec replay" button. Sometimes I misheard something, or want to go back and that one button is very convenient.

Great product, can now watch the most popular movies!
I unpacked the box, and had this hooked up to watch the first movie within an hour. The only issue with hookup was in modifying the video output to use the HDMI instead of the standard output that came with the ClearPlay. I found this issue talked about in the FAQ's, and resolved it quickly. I rented "Up In the Air", which is a romantic comedy, rated R to test it out. Two F bombs were missed by the filtering right at the beginning, but other than that, I was comfortable enough to put down the remote and relax for the remainder of the movie. I love the levels of filtering, and I suppose I should have lightened them up a little bit for the rated R movie. Some phrases were totally bleeped out which resulted in lost content, but I found it worth it to be able to skip over unwanted content. I think ClearPlay will work best for those PG-13 rated movies, like Benjamin Button. There wasn't much filtering needed, just a few curse words, and sex scenes. The sex scenes filtered out nicely, we see the couple embrace, maybe kiss, then it appears that the camera cuts away (just a little sooner leaving all of the details to the imagination). Overall, love the quality, and any compromise of lost content is worth it. The only other issue I had was with loading the easy updates (loads all available filters instead of one by one for each movie). Customer service quickly resolved this for me, they have a call back system, so I didn't have to wait on the line, and the english speaking representative walked me through re-formatting the usb filter stick. Within minutes, all of the available filters were loaded. I am recommending this to friends, waited a long time to be able to expand the selection of movies in our household. Great job!!

Serious quality issues
This is my fourth ClearPlay machine. The first one I purchased a couple of years ago just stopped working altogether. So, I ordered this "new and improved" HDMI model. It didn't work. We sent it back. ClearPlay sent us a new one. Again, it didn't work. I sent it back. ClearPlay sent me another new one. Finally, this one worked. After over a month of dealing with horrible quality issues, moronic customer service reps, and ridiculous delays, we have an operational ClearPlay machine. I like the machine, mostly. I like the fact that I can rent rated "R" movies and clean up the language, etc. The editing features deserve a B to B+ grade. Not perfect, not horrible. If you buy one, be prepared to send it back at least once until you get one that works.

Macintosh users beware
Downloading filters to the USB crashed my Apple IMAC! Up until I tried to download filters, my Apple had been working flawlessly for more than two years. One of the methods ClearPlay was instructing users to follow online was to go to Applications, Utilities and then Terminal mode to type in some commands. I was told after-the-fact by Customer Service that this was intended for the older DVD style and that I shouldn't have been using this method. The Apple Tech Support rep was very unimpressed that a company was directing me to Terminal mode, and he advised me to be very cautious if ever using Terminal mode. After restoring computer from my last back-up (more than a month old so I lost some nice family pictures), I tried updating using their other method and that also crashed my computer. I have since returned the item to Amazon.

Clearplay is AWESOME!!!
This is one of my best purchases! This machine really does take out all the swear words, violence that I don't even want to see like blood squirting everywhere, and it also removes the sex sceens. You still know what is going on in the movie but you don't feel like you have to stare at the floor or worry about your kids walking in. We didn't watch rated r movies and even a lot of pg-13 before due to the few seans in them that should have been left out and we were always bummed when we watched a preview and saw it was rated R but now we are able to watch movies that we weren't able to before. While you watching a movie and there is a swear word or a bad scene it just seems like there is a scratch on the dvd and it skips but that's the editing and I'm sure after a little while I wont even notice for larger things like a sex sceen it skips it but adults can put together what happened your not left in the dark about what is going on. For small swear words sometimes it'll just go quiet for a second and thats the swearing be taken out. I tell everyone about this dvd player because it truely is a great invention. Yes, you do have to subscribe to have the downloads to filter the movies but it's so worth it since we only watch netflixs and don't have satelite it gets used a lot. My husband even watched a video made in a different country and I didn't think they'd have a filter for it but they did! Buy this if you are tired of watching movies with all the filth or want to watch certain movies but can't because of it you wont be sorry you bought it.

Great model...
I owned a Clearplay player that gave out on me. I wasn't surprised because I watch TONS of movies and love that I can watch them without the ickiness. This model is really good, but the actual loading of the movies/filters takes a lot more time than my previous player. Don't get me wrong, it's worth every penny you pay for it. The actual filter does bother some people because it's not perfect by any means. It will skip mid-scene, without any sort of smooth transition. But, this is worth it to me.

Works as advertised...mostly
I haven't really had many problems with this unit, just one recurring one. I have to keep RCA cables handy because about 40% of the time when I turn it on, it forgets I want to use HDMI, so I have to plug it into another input and go to its settings and remind it that I want HDMI. Very annoying. Other than that I am please, though we haven't used it nearly as much as I thought I would. My renting is virtually nil now that I have Netflix and Vudu. I might let my subscription lapse if it doesn't get used more.

ClearPlay Upconvert is Choppy - Also Lack of Movie Filters
I recently purchased ClearPlay to watch some filtered movies. Movies are choppy when using the HDMI cable with upconvert...I guess this player can't support a good-quality movie while filtering. I was also disappointed by the fact that some current 'R' rated movies have not been added to the ClearPlay system. I'm paying about $8 per month for this service too, so I would expect nearly all movies to be added. Overall, don't buy this player if you expect it have a decent upconvert.
