Reliable starter with strong fermentation and easy activation
This dehydrated sourdough starter is easy to work with and rehydrates without much difficulty. Once activated, it develops a consistent fermentation activity and produces a solid base for baking. I like that it comes as a mature culture, which helps provide a more dependable starting point compared to trying to build a starter from scratch. The instructions are clear and make the process straightforward even for someone new to sourdough baking. After feeding, it becomes active and bubbly with a predictable rise pattern, which makes it easier to plan baking schedules. The starter also has a pleasant, slightly tangy aroma once fully established. One thing to keep in mind is that, like all sourdough starters, it requires regular feeding and care to maintain consistent results, especially in the early stages of activation. Overall, this is a dependable sourdough starter kit that makes the process of getting into sourdough baking much more accessible and structured.

Wife Can Now Bake Sourdough Thanks to This Starter
After a trip to Switzerland, we got hooked on sourdough and wanted to keep eating it at home. My wife spent a month trying to make her own starter from scratch using TikTok and YouTube videos. Nothing worked. After a few failed attempts, she gave up and bought this one. She’s baking her 4th sourdough loaf tomorrow and it’s been a hit every time. This starter reactivated fast and started bubbling within the first day. Super easy to follow and actually works. Her loaves come out with that perfect tangy flavor and a great rise. Pros: Reactivates quickly, starter was alive and active in no time Comes with clear, beginner-friendly instructions Clean ingredients, no additives or weird stuff Works great even if you’ve failed with DIY starters Cons: You’ll want to bake more often once you taste it Not a huge packet, but enough to get going strong. Make sure to feed it everyday! Sourdough goes amazing with a caprese salad. Basil is easy to grow, sourdough is easy now too. Seriously delicious. Totally worth it.

Good customer service and good product it works
It was 3 days of feeding, and at the end of day three, it went crazy. I fed it according to instructions, but I think you might need to go based on sight because every environment is different. Mine was so liquidy that I was convinced it was starving, so I reached out to Sup because day 3 had no bubbles, just liquid. I needed advice. They responded so quickly and were very kind with me. After following the suggestion of ignoring the paper and feeding it more flour, it tripled that day lol, and it’s bed doubling since. Super nice customer service, swift delivery, swift activation. Can’t complain. Thank you!

Great starter, might not be appropriate for whole wheat flour
The sourdough starter is good and consistently bubbled up the first 5-6 days with regular feeding. Although I was using all purpose flower for the feeding, I used whole wheat flour for making the main dough and that did not bake as expected. Maybe it doesn't work well with whole wheat bread during bulk fermentation. Otherwise very good starter.

Fantastic and easy sourdough starter.
This a fantastic way to make your sourdough starter. Follow the directions and you will be successful. Only change I made was I used bread flour instead of all purpose flour. I started the process last Saturday and baked my first ever loaf this Saturday morning so 1 week. Have my starter in fridge and will bake another this week. Pictures of out of the oven and sliced.

Canadian-made, beginner-friendly, and seriously backed by real support
First-time sourdough guy here. I wasn’t expecting to write a glowing review of dried microbes... and yet, here we are. This starter worked brilliantly. All it needed was a jar, an appropriate cover, and some flour and water. It revived quickly, smelled alive and tangy by Day 2, and led to a proper, honest-to-goodness sourdough loaf I was proud to slice into. But what really impressed me was the customer support. On Day 1, I sent a quick message to the seller with a photo and a “Not sure I’m doing this right?” question. Fifteen minutes later, I received a kind, detailed reply from someone named Heli, who clearly knew their stuff and genuinely wanted to help. Different flours and absorption rates are a thing, apparently. Their guidance helped get my starter on track, and the follow-up made it clear this wasn't a one-off. That kind of support gave me real confidence going into my first bake. What I liked: - Fast, consistent fermentation once it got going - Clear and usable instructions - Thoughtful, responsive customer service (not a bot!) - Clean, organic ingredients (brown rice flour, AP flour, wild yeast) - Arrived well packaged What to know: - It’s not the cheapest starter out there, but the quality and support easily justify the price - Like all sourdough, it still needs a bit of love—don’t expect set-it-and-forget-it results (but if you’re here, you probably already know that) Bottom line: If you’re new to sourdough and want to skip the mess of building a starter from scratch, this is a reliable, beginner-friendly option that still feels authentic. My dough rose beautifully and baked like a dream. For seasoned bakers, this could be a great backup or a way to try a different regional flavour. Either way, I highly recommend it. Solid 5 stars.

Didn't work for me until I corrected my error.
I am an experienced sourdough baker with no trouble for the past four years, until I recently let my scrapings of starter get too scarce and decided to restart a new starter with this dehydrated old culture. Although we keep the home temperature at 73 degrees F, by the second day, the starter did nothing even though I followed the instructions . Then I bought a sourdough starter warmer, which I keep the jar on at 99 degrees. I am now on the seventh day and it has not yet risen beyond a quarter inch, very few bubbles and a crust forms on top of the culture. I have been discarding and feeding at 1:1:1 ratio and i will continue for a day or two before giving up and feeding the garbage with the total. UPDATE: Mea Culpa, my bad! I don't use All purpose flour often (I usually used bread flour for starter feeding, but it is too expensive for daily discards) but I followed instructions with this starter and used the small bag of all purpose in my pantry. After posting the above review, I had a brainwave--maybe the flour was too old; I switched to new bread flour and voila, a miracle! By the ninth day I had a mucho bubbly, high-rise starter. I did one more discard and started my usual ration 1:4:4 levain. My week's abuse of this culture did not hurt it and when I corrected my mistake, it forgave me. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND CAPTAIN SOURPANTS!

Best sourdough starter ever!
This is the best sourdough starter ever! If you follow the enclosed instructions you will get a starter that bubbles and triples in size. I use Rye flour instead of all purpose flour as it raises better and taste great.

Great starter!
Very impressed with this starter. Was skeptical about trying it but was very pleased with the outcome. Once it got going it became a very healthy starter.
