Barefoot shoes with padding, essentially
Third pair of Altras, still true to size. I now swear by this brand. I have Superior 4.5 for outdoors and Timp 5 GTX as a backup (they have a really thick sole) as seen from the picture attached and wanted something for everyday use. These black ones are perfect! They’re not in your face, have a slimmer sole and everything else that Altra is known for.

Good to walk and run in
I have recently tried the Altra Escalante's and these Solstices seem fairly similar to those in that it also has a wide toe design, leaving more room than traditional running shoes that may be tighter up front.Sizing is a good fitThe material is similar in that it's thin and flexible, but also breathable, which is what you would need for sports/outdoor activities. There is also low cushioning on these shoes, but provides a good level of support and still feels comfortable to walk/run in.Costs £105 at the time of this review - cheaper than the Escalante's and has a similar quality to it.

Very wide toe box, zero drop outsole, very well made.
My son has inherited my very wide feet and it seems to me that it is becoming increasingly difficult to find shoes that fit comfortably, almost as if shoes are being made narrower than in the past or perhaps my feet are just getting wider! It was with great joy then that I came across these purposefully made extra wide training shoes. My son has worn these running on several occasions now and reports that they are super comfortable and more than meet the needs of his casual jogging regime. The padding around the ankle is generous and the shoe in general feels robust and well made.It should be noted that these a zero drop shoes which means your foot is falling onto a flat surface with minimal impact cushioning. With adequate ankle strength and range of motion this should not be a problem but if you have flat feet or high arches then you may want to consider swapping the included flat insole with something more supportive. They are marketed as “Cross training" shoes and this probably explains the more general design; they will work for running but equally in gym. They are expensive but then they are a brand with reputation and these are very well made and should last. Also, it is worth paying the extra money for shoes which have width to match your feet. The consequences of squashing your toes in to inadequately sized shoes for years on end can cause a number of issues; I have some of these issues and wished I'd realised at a younger age.

comfortable for activity
Slipping these trainers on, they felt light and comfortable straight away. I’ve worn them for a few runs and some general knocking about, and they’ve held up well. There’s a good amount of give in the sole, which makes them feel responsive. My feet didn’t feel overly hot or constricted, even after longer periods wearing them. They seem well put together and have become a regular choice when I’m heading out.

Excellent
I’ve really enjoyed wearing these Altra shoes. I have another pair from this brand which are a smaller size (10), whereas these are 10.5 and seem slightly smaller - I’m normally 10.5 and these are slightly snug but fit well and feel like a really nice fit with no movement. They are not particuarly padded but my feet feel well supported with no pain in my ankles which I do get sometimes after a long day. I wouldn’t use them for running or sports though, as I don’t think there’s enough cushioning, but for general wear these are good. The shape of the toe area is very wide, like other Altra shoes. It does look a little unusual at first glance but is very comfortable.

Lightweight and good quality
I normally order a size 8 in trainers so that what I ordered here. They fit true to size. However I did find that there's a bit of movement in the heel for me. This isn't great as it may result in blisters down the line. Perhaps I just need to wear slightly thicker socks. The shoes are very well made. I couldn't see any defects. Visually they look like they have a very wide toe box, they almost look like barefoot shoes, but when worn the extra room is not that noticeable. They're comfortable on though. I like the understated aesthetics of these shoes and you can't go wrong with black. At the time of writing these are priced at £105 so not the cheapest. I removed a star for the price as I think they could be a bit cheaper.

Incredibly good.
Quality, style, comfort and performance are just some of the complimentary words that could be used to describe these incredible Solstice Xt trainers. They're all of the above and more as they are possibly the most comfortable training shoes I've worn, and I'm more than happy to read them.
