Beautiful grass! It took a while to germinate the first time—probably because I didn’t do much soil prep, just spread the seeds on top, and the weather was cold for a couple of weeks. Once the temperature warmed up, it started growing much faster. On my second try, I tested a smaller patch and did a few things differently: I lightly covered the seeds with a thin layer of soil and watered twice a day. The instructions suggested watering up to four times daily, but I didn’t have time for that—twice a day still worked really well. It sprouted within a week and looked great. Definitely recommend, especially if you can give it consistent care!

2nd time I have ordered it - I had grass in a couple of weeks, and after 4, it is long. Hoping the roots take hold, as they did the last time, as we started getting frosts in October.Update: Very happy at how this survived the snow and ice this winter in Northern NYS (think 200 miles from NYCity). I didn't get it in the ground until late fall, but it came up strong and the first picture is how it looked after a month. The 2nd picture I just took, this is in March, on a day that only hit 40F, even with the sunshine.

Finally have gotten some grass to grow in a shady area. While the grass is not lush yet, it at least has started to grow. Shady areas are always a challenge.

Have high shade area under large tree. Waited until late Oct in TX to plant and covered with shallow layer of soil. Temps good, watered well. Grass started to grow, appeared to be getting thicker, then died off. Tried to over seed again, and still looking at dirt.

I am disappointed because I've only heard good things about Jonathan Green products. But I did so much prep work and kept up with watering and barely any results. I got a $10 bag from menards that faired much better.

3rd updated review:It's perfect. It's grown in really thick and long, it's been about 3 months and I've used a total of 2 bags on this little apartment yard that started as a mud pit.
