Shabby Chic—the rich, inviting, practical, time-worn style created by one of America's top designers, Rachel Ashwell, is a style of living that reflects the grace and simplicity of another time. Now you can do more than just dream of living in a Shabby Chic home. You can create one yourself. With invaluable treasure hunting advice and tips for essential materials, furniture, objects, and decorations, you can live a life of simple, but rich, beauty. With her practiced eye Rachel takes you on a tour of flea markets, antique malls, and a variety of secondhand sales— estate, tag, yard, church, garage—to demonstrate how, with a little taste, imagination, work, and ingenuity, you can turn trinkets from the past into treasures for today. As Rachel sifts through the discarded, the crumbling, the shabby, she takes you step by step through her personal process, sharing how you, too, can spot a fabulous buy, repair and alter it, and by following her guideline words— comfort , function , and beauty —develop your own distinctive, original look that is down-to-earth yet truly exquisite. Following her sensible advice you can exchange the anonymity of mass-produced furniture and home accessories for unique, inviting surroundings for a fraction of the price and decorate comfortable, livable rooms in which family heirlooms blend with flea-market finds and the new combines gracefully with the well worn. Lavishly illustrated with lovely and informative photographs and drawings, Rachel Ashwell's Shabby Chic Treasure Hunting & Decorating Guide shows you how to have the home you've always dreamed of, a place where children's dinners are served on mix-and-match antique plates at a table covered with lace from a renovated curtain set with unironed linen napkins. A space where fresh flowers stand in antique jugs, complementing comfortable furniture covered in crisp white denim that is enhanced with each laundering. For Rachel, Shabby Chic is not just a style. It is a way of living. With her trademark warmth and charm she reveals how she sleeps on embroidered antique linen and dresses in cashmeres and bias-cut silk dresses discovered in vintage clothing shops and flea markets. Throughout, she teaches you how to recognize and appreciate beauty in unlikely and often overlooked places, as well as how to define and refine your individual taste.

Beautiful collection of photos as well as tips and tricks for restoring antiques and project furniture
Love the ideas and tips included in this book, and especially enjoyed just browsing through all of the beautiful photos of Ashwell's treasures. I found much inspiration in this book as far as ideas and useful tips for restoring antiques and project pieces. It is also beautiful as a coffee table book, and most of my guests end up flipping through the pages at some point during their visit to my home. I plan on purchasing another of Ashwell's design books soon because I enjoyed this one so much!

If you love beautiful things but your wallet does not, buy this book!
Generally, when I have a design-type book I mostly look at the photos. Rachel Ashwell's books are different - I find myself reading them from cover to cover. She shares many of her ideas about how to create a beautiful and comfortable home. This book focuses on flea market finds - what to look for and possible uses. In the back of the book there is a "resources" section that includes care for old fabrics, tips for cleaning and restoring various objects, and locations of some flea markets. I also find the photos and sketches very inspiring. If you are drawn to the shabby chic style and love finding hidden jewels, this is a book for you.

Rachel Ashwell's Shabby Chic Treasure Hunting and Decorating Guide
I received this book prior to shipment date. It arrived in excellent condition without any markings/tears on any pages. It has its cover and the cover looks new. This book is one of the author's best. It is informative and organized. It even includes a map of the flea markets in California just in case you were serious about hunting the fleas for treasures, which I would like to do. I would recommend this book.

Good price & Excellent Condition
I just got this 5 minutes ago & flipped through it until I can sit & enjoy it. This company delivered just as promised along with perfect condition. There's absolutely nothing wrong with it. I was expecting maybe a slightly torn jacket or pages, but nope. No marks on the pages either. Just a beautiful book. I would buy from this company again.

love shabby chic
Rachel Ashwell never fails to make me happy. I love her thinking, her design style. It inspires me. Like her, I love flea markets, garage sales, and other sources of shabby inspiration. I sell at a flea market & I'm considering opening a thrift store with "shabby chic" decor as my theme. She gives great ideas for flea market shopping and treasure hunting in this book. A fellow flea market seller borrowed the book just to look at it for a while.

Eccellente

Lovely book with lots of great pictures
I really enjoyed this book by Rachel Ashwell, which is about how to treasure hunt and what to do with your finds. It's full of great images, and gorgeous interiors, which have given me lots of ideas for my own home. Be aware, though, that the drawback is Ashwell herself, who simply cannot keep herself out of her books. Every one of them reads like an 'Aren't I marvellous?' vanity project, but you just have to ignore this and concentrate on extracting useful information. Many of the interiors shown would be impossible to achieve without an army of cleaners, restorers and decorators doing all the tough work (for more hands-on books, try Jocasta Innes, who knows how to get her hands dirty), but the Shabby Chic look itself is so delightful that I will keep on buying Ashwell books unti they run out.
