Raleigh and Durham: The Twain Have Not Yet Met!
The authors know better, but woe to the unfortunate ignorant editor who forced the awkward title on them. The first sentence of the dust jacket description is enough to make me choke: "By the late nineteenth century, the city of Raleigh-Durham was a vibrant cultural center of the East." Ahem, anyone mildly familiar with the area and its history knows that not only is there no combined city of Raleigh-Durham today (despite the name of the shared airport which only serves to confuse visitors), but to suggest that it was a single entity over a hundred years ago is sheer idiocy. The text of the book understands this. The sooner this edition goes out-of-print, the better.
