I bought this for my apartment living room and this unit cools down the room in no time! Easy to install, it's quiet and works amazing!

I bought this for my son's room. It definitely makes the room COLD! Pretty easy to install. My son's room size is 12x12. I don't feel it's great for being portable since it does need to be installed through a window.

Bought two of these units after our top floor air conditioner went out as a supplement until we can have the main unit repaired. Worked marvelously for both upstairs bedrooms where we sleep so it worked perfectly as advertised. Very easy to move around and set up as the wheels work nicely. Only reason for 4 and not 5 stars was that the sliding panel that goes in the window was just short for both of our windows but we found a workaround. A few reviews complain that the unit is loud and I believe that is because they simply turned the unit on as soon as they received it and did not follow the instruction to leave it vertical for a few hours to allow the lubricating oil to return to the compressor. The overall noise level I could compare it to would be a kind of quiet hotel window air conditioner which was to be expected. Overall very happy with this unit

I picked up the Square BLACK+DECKER Portable Air Conditioner, 5,100 BTU SACC/CEC (8,500 BTU ASHRAE 128) to replace another unit I bought a couple of years ago. The older unit is from an obscure Chinese company that no longer exists. This no-frills B+D square unit looks almost exactly the same but is a little smaller and I'm hoping to will perform better. The on/off temp control range seems to be the same, you have to go 6 degrees above room temp to get the AC to shut off. The new B+D unit puts out a lot of cold air but is noisy making a rattling sound from inside when the ac compressor is on. The 2-speed fan & remote works fine. I'm hoping the water internal evap cooler will be enough to keep the inside water tank from filling up. I will post another review update after summer

I bought this to use only on the hot humid nights in my coastal home. We installed this in less than five minutes and had it up and running. I like how it is small enough that it can fit in a small space in a small bedroom. It cools the room quickly and keeps it cool. I also appreciate the timer, so we can cool the bedroom and then shut it off automatically. Would definitely buy again!

Ugh. So disappointed. I bought like new. I don't expect perfection but almost everything was damaged. 1 wheel broken. Dent window kit. Dents on unit. The plug for drain line cut off. Terrible. This should have been 50 bucks. Now I did took off all the wheels and dragggggg this unit across the room to test it out. It did cool my small office room within an hr. It's 104 in Phoenix. Took 2 hrs to cool down to 82 degrees. Not bad but disappointed. I contacted the company if I can at least get a wheel for free. Debating to return this.

This little thing kicks ass! Cold within five minutes. The only thing we don't like is it does not have an economy setting. And it feels like the room just keeps getting colder. So we set it at a much higher temperature.

Edit: Well, after writing the review below, I ran into a problem. The A/C just suddenly turns off while it's running in cool mode. (It's not like when it cycles between the compressor and the fan; it just stops running entirely, even though the desired temp is still lit up on the display.) If I hit the on/off button, it makes the two beeps sound that indicates "off" (even though it's not running). I can turn it right back on, and it seems to work, but I can't keep waking up every 20 min to turn it on! Have done all the required trouble-shooting (check the electricity, filters, drain pan, exhaust hose is not kinked, etc) - all fine, and it does it even when it's not particularly hot out. Also does it within 15 minutes of turning it on. I contacted Black & Decker and they are happy to send a replacement -- but that means I have to uninstall this one, pack it up and ship it, and wait up to "7 to 10 days" for a replacement, and then re-install that one. Needless to say, not ideal when it's in the 90s. I asked for a refund instead and they wouldn't give it to me. Really disappointed - and dreading the next few weeks without an a/c! Please fix this, Black & Decker! I'm happy with this purchase. I've never had a portable A/C, but had to buy this because my windows in the place I live now won't open wide enough for a window unit. The A/C was easy to set up and install. I'm pleased that it's a compact size. It cools my room efficiently and quickly. The noise level is absolutely fine and what I would expect - certainly not louder than a window A/C. I really like the fact that when it switches from cooling to fan mode as the room cools, there's not a big "clunk" or other noise (which I have had happen with other A/Cs). Everything feels solid and well-made. Love the fact that I can control it with the remote.

Love this AC unit (8500 BTU). It's surprisingly efficient. But please take note the window kit IS FOR A SLIDING WINDOW frame, NOT for rolling windows. Otherwise I would've given it a 5 stars rating.
