Works perfectly with Apple Home
Bought these to replace dying Philips Hue bulbs and they work great with Apple Home. Very happy with my purchase. Will probably buy more when I need more lightbulbs. It is a little unfortunate though that they donโt seem to be compatible with Appleโs auto light temperature in the Home app, but itโs not a big deal.

Capable smart bulbs held back by the Nanoleaf app
The Nanoleaf Essentials Smart LED colour-changing bulbs work well in practice. They fit standard fixtures, make existing lights smart, and deliver vibrant colours with a useful range of warm to cool whites. Control through Apple Home is reliable and responsive. The main drawback is the Nanoleaf app, which continues to prompt device setup even after months of stable use in HomeKit. For users who prefer Apple Home, the app feels buggy and unnecessary. Broader, default support for Matter over Thread across the range would significantly improve the experience, particularly in mixed installations with older Thread-based Nanoleaf Essentials bulbs. In my setup, the Thread bulbs respond faster and more consistently than the Wi-Fi versions, despite running on a robust Ubiquiti UniFi Wi-Fi 7 network. Overall, the hardware performs well, but the software experience falls short. Based on past experience with other Nanoleaf products, long-term reliability remains a concern.

Stay away from Nanoleaf Essentials Matter over wifi bulbs.
Nanoleaf Essentials Bulbs Review: Thread vs. WiFi Comparison ## Shared Strengths Both the Matter over Thread and Matter over WiFi versions of Nanoleaf Essentials bulbs offer: - Seamless pairing with Apple Home and Hubitat - Rich colors with granular control over color and temperature - Adequate brightness (though this is subjectiveโI personally prefer dimmer lighting) ## Matter over Thread Version: Recommended The Thread-based bulbs have been consistently reliable in my smart home setup, maintaining stable connections and responding promptly to commands. ## Matter over WiFi Version: Not Recommended After three months of troubleshooting with Nanoleaf support, I cannot recommend the WiFi versions due to persistent connectivity issues: ### Connectivity Problems - Bulbs disconnect regularly, typically staying connected for only 12-16 hours - Current workaround requires physically turning them off for 30 seconds to reconnect ### Excessive Requirements (According to Nanoleaf Support) Nanoleaf claims these bulbs require: - Placement more than 25 feet from routers and other WiFi devices - No Zigbee devices in the environment - All network devices on 2.4 GHz only (5 GHz network must be inactive) - No WiFi 6 or WiFi 7 in the environment - Manual IP assignment on your router -All devices in the network must use WPA2 security. WPA3 cannot be active. Despite meeting these requirements, the connectivity issues persist. My requests to have them replaced with the Thread version have been unsuccessful. ## Conclusion For those interested in Nanoleaf Essentials bulbs, I strongly recommend the Matter over Thread version. The Matter over WiFi version, despite sharing the same quality of light, has proven unreliable and difficult to maintain in a typical smart home environment.โโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโ

a bit warm and a bit dim but nice color
I purchased several of these and they all perform the same. I am comparing to brands such as Govee and Wyze that sadly don't natively work with Apple Home. These work very well with Apple Home and turn on and off quickly for me when talking to Siri through the phone. Using the watch can be an issue but that is an Apple problem and happens with anything Siri related. It would be nice if they had a higher watt version. These are a bit dim even in comparison to a similarly rated bulb. More concerning though is that these do seem uncomfortably warm when in use. The other brands listed above get slightly warm but not hot. Even though Wyze is higher wattage and hence brighter, it does run cooler. I do like the colors. They seem just a bit more vivid. I can see things fluoresce when set to blue that I didn't note with the other brands. They are a fairly small short bulb so they do fit in everything I have tried. Some brands can be too tall for my ceiling fan light cover. I will shop around and maybe try additional options before buying these again. The heat issue has me a bit concerned about their longevity but if they last, they aren't a bad option. Based on that I may recommend them but it would depend on the person and use case.

They're OK but combined with amazon's practices, unless you're patient, skip them.
I've bought 6 of these. The first two arrived before I reinstalled my wifi network. If you're planning to make any change to your wifi then do not install these until after you do that. You have to redo everything and it's pain to get these completely reset. Once set up though, they are functional. The second set that I ordered was a box of 4. Amazon sent me a box that had clearly been opened once before and reshipped. The bulbs looked ok so I figured I'd try to install them. Their firmware is in the 2.0 series when the other bulbs arrived at 4.0. Apparently that's old enough that attempting to update it causes it to timeout. I.e. These bulbs cannot be updated to the current firmware and subsequently can't connect to my wifi at all because they attempt to run that update any time you try to get to the wifi prompt. I.e. Amazon sent useless bulbs.
