I'm giving this ship a five star rating even though it hasn't been built yet. Its an easter gift for my son who is really into lego sets but when I looked for the lego black pearl it was ridiculously expensive so, when I found this one and the other ratings on it are all great I said I'd give it a go. It looks great and it's nice and big so hopefully it all works out well.

Really enjoyed putting the ship together until I found multiple parts missing and for the amount I spent there should not be parts wrong sizes and missing in this set very disappointed. I bought both and after this I will be sending the other one back.

Love this ship instructions where easy to follow, its good quality, has amazing lights onit, good size. Me and my husband enjoyed building it, so much so that we have brought the flying dutchman to go with this one.

The only thing you really want to know is, are the bricks as good as Lego bricks. I would say almost. the tolerances are good enough that the final product fits together well, but some of the fittings are tight or loose. There are some connections that will pop off if bumped, but no more than would happen with a Lego set with the same connection. The bad? My set was missing 2 pieces and it took more than a month to get the replacement parts. It's not as easy as with Lego just telling them you had missing pieces. There's no inventory at the end of the book or part numbers to reference. You have to take a picture of the instructions, circle the piece you're missing and let them know how many you are missing. Worst of all you have to provide an order number, I guess to prove you bought the set and aren't just looking for some free parts. I can see getting this set as a gift and having a really hard time if the set was missing pieces. I would have given it 4 1/2 stars for the hassle of getting replacement parts, but for the value it's well worth it. I did order the bigger 40103 JMBricklayer Pirate Ship Building Sets and had 2 broken pieces and 2 very warped pieces that made the ship not go together, warped because of the tight packaging. I guess if they replace those parts with no problems it will determine if I shop from them again, but 2 sets and problems with both is not looking good.

Having grown up with LEGO and Megabloks (and the large gap in quality between them), I've always been skeptical of non-LEGO building block kits. However, I have always wanted a tall ship for my collection, and LEGO's tend to be outside my budget. So I took a chance on JMBricklayer's White Swan. I was not disappointed. First of all, the block quality is indistinguishable from LEGO's. The blocks are high quality and my kit had no deformities. There are even a few areas this set was better than LEGO, specifically the stickers. In LEGO kits, the stickers are pre-cut vinyl that you peel and stick directly. This leaves little room for error and tends to result in stickers that look a bit fake compared to LEGO's pre-printed blocks. In the JMBricklayer set, the stickers are instead applied similar to high end Gunpla kits, where you have a larger adhesive square that is applied and then peeled off leaving behind a smaller decal. This results in natural looking decals that don't look like stickers. The only downside to the kit was the rigging and chains. Rather than having the chains pre-assembled, you have to meticulously assemble them link by tiny link. This was fiddly and difficult and it would have been better to have a pre-assembled chain. The lines for the sails are also rather fiddly and not very high quality. I don't know that I'd recommend this kit for someone with arthritis or shaky hands as a result.
