How hot is Kashmiri chilli whole?

Very mild. These pods sit at roughly 12,000 to 15,000 SHU on the Scoville scale, so they bring a gentle warmth rather than a burn. They are prized far more for their deep red colour than for heat.

Deggi mirch is the Indian name for this mild, brilliantly red Kashmiri-style chilli. The pods are long and slender, sun dried whole, and are the traditional chilli behind butter chicken, rogan josh and tandoori red.

How do I use whole dried chillies?

Snip off the stem, shake out the seeds if you want it milder, then either bloom the pods whole in hot oil, soak them in warm water and blend to a paste, or grind them dry into your own fresh Kashmiri chilli powder.

Is any colouring added?

No. The colour comes only from the chillies themselves. Rani Kashmiri Chilli Whole is a single ingredient, with no added colours, no salt, no oil and no fillers.

Is it vegan, Kosher and gluten friendly?

Yes. It is all natural, salt free, vegan, Kosher, gluten friendly and Non-GMO, with no added colours. It is of Indian origin and packed in a resealable no-barrier PET jar.
