Columbia Women's Newton Ridge Plus Waterproof Hiking Boot (Legacy)

My child’s class has had a field trip to a nature preserve every year so far, and my old generic hiking boots from a big box store were not cutting it, as they didn’t come in wide so I had to size up, which of course ended up giving my blisters and not supporting my ankles well.i was so happy to find real hiking boots that come in women’s wide! These fit a lot like New Balance. I wear a 9.5 Wide in Brooks and a 9 Wide in New Balance, and the 9 Wide in these boots fit perfectly, still with enough room for proper hiking socks. I am not a hiker (lifelong ankle problems), but these are super useful to have. I wear them for any time I get to do hiking type activities, but also just for errands etc when it’s raining and I don’t want to deal with wet socks from wearing running shoes. I find these have good ankle support, and the footbed is removable so I can put my trusty Superfeet Berry inserts in them. The platform of these boots is wide enough and solid enough to give me great arch support with my inserts. They are a bit stiff but in a good way—they’re supportive. I didn’t not find them uncomfortably stiff even when brand new. I do like to feel support for my feet and ankles though—I find the minimal shoe trend horrifying. I have not had any issues with the soles slipping, and I wear them often when it’s wet out. Not sure how they would perform in icy conditions, but I don’t think they’re made for that. They keep my feet cool enough in the summer and fall, despite being full leather. I purchased them on sale for about sixty bucks and feel they were a great value. They seem to be good quality and the fit is perfect.

It took me 5 pairs before I finally got the right size for these. Most Columbia boots run small and narrow. I know this because I own two different types of Columbia snow boots. They are the only brand I wear for snow/winter for the last 20 - 30 years. I bought these assuming they would also run small, big mistake. If you buy the right size, when you put these on, you won’t want to take them off because they are that comfortable. I normally wear 9-9.5 medium width shoes. I purchased a 10 wide, a half size up from my usual shoe size range, to allow for my feet to have plenty of room with hiking socks and because the toes are on my right feet do not lay flat like my left foot. Your toes should not feel squished in any shoe. I got wide because Columbia are usually on the narrow side. My left foot is a medium width (almost narrow) and my right foot is medium width (almost wide). I also purchased Columbia hiking socks which feel amazing in these boots. Quarry is a very pretty grey color with black, light grey and blue accents. Such a pretty color combination. I will be wearing these to walk our dog on the trails in our neighborhood, which I do daily and are often swampy and even flooded in some areas. I was previously using my Brooks Ghost sneakers but too often coming home with mud, wet socks and saturated shoes. We mostly do trails but also mix in some sidewalk walking, so I needed a shoe that would be good on both. I will come back to update my review should they not work well. Super excited to wear them tomorrow on our morning walk through the woods. Update: 2/20/23 I wore these yesterday for a 3 mile walk/hike through trails and on sidewalks walking a dog. Update: 2/28/23 I have worn these again and had success, no knee or back pain afterward. Not my favorite shoe for walking our dog on sidewalks and not as comfortable as my Brooks but they are waterproof and are saving me on the trails right now. Update: 12/8/25 Loving these boots! I have been wearing them for miles while walking my dog on trails, through puddles, wet grass and snow. They are so warm and comfortable! I have been wearing them every day lately because we have been getting so much snow and everything is staying wet. No heel pain, no foot pain of any kind. Keeping my feet dry and the brooks ghost are being put away for the winter because these are the best for walking my dog through wet conditions. Considering to buy another pair and maybe not even wear the Brooks for walks anymore. Amazing shoes!!!

I was initially pretty nervous ordering these since there were many reviews about shoe size. These are my first pair of hiking boots and thought they were a pretty great price which is what drew me to them. I’m one of the unfortunate people that depending on the shoe brand and shoe itself depends on my shoe size. It can be anywhere from size 5-6.5 and sometimes even 7 in some cases. I would say I probably purchase more in the 6-6.5 range. That said, I was originally going to purchase these in 7 since I assumed I should not only take into account the shoe size they suggest but also socks and possible foot swelling while hiking. I know my size in EU and it’s always been on the dot as far being correct. I ended up then purchasing these in the EU size, which is 36 or 5 in US. When I received them, I put on the socks I plan on wearing while hiking and slipped them on. I first just wore them while sitting on the couch. They felt tight and my feet felt cramped and painful. I thought it was just because they were a new pair of shoes. For reference, socks I plan on wearing are similar to those hanes white socks that go above the ankle. I took them off for a bit after that and made them a little looser and put them back on to walk my dog on our running trail in my apartment complex. I felt my big toes were digging into the top of the shoe. They were uncomfortable and my feet still felt cramped. My smaller toes were going numb towards the end of the walk, which lasted around 15 mins. I ended up returning the size 5 or EU 36 . I reordered them a half size bigger, so 5.5 or 36.5. I feel this is more comfortable. My toes don’t feel like they’re digging into the top of the shoe. And I can walk around in them. They’re a little uncomfortable, but this feels more like uncomfortable since they’re brand new shoes versus how I felt earlier. Grip on the bottom of the shoe feels solid while walking on dirt/forest floor and over tree roots. The shoe color is true to picture example they’ve given. They seem light weight and the back of the shoe where the ankle is doesn’t feel uncomfortable. My suggestion would be to purchase 1/2 size or even 1 size up from your shoe size to take into account socks and everything. I don’t have any other hiking shoe to compare these too. Would I purchase these again? As of right now, I absolutely would. Next time I plan on purchasing size 6 or EU 37 though.

This boot is true to size... I originally followed other reviews that suggested to go a half size up. WRONG move for me. I then exchanged it for my true size, and the length was perfect. After using it for some time, this shoe is comfortable and of good quality. Traction is really good; seams are well stitched (double-stitched); colors are stylish. So far as being waterproof-- I was in a little but of rain, it held watertight. (But I wasn't able to test it through streams or puddles, yet.) Note 1: I did swap out the sole for one with an arch support-- as that makes a huge difference in my hikes. I do thisbfor all my shoes... Note 2: The ankles are extra-padded. It looks a bit bulky at first, but I know they'll flatten a bit-- and they're meant to protect my ankles from impact (from falls, or getting stuck in rocks, etc.) I do wish they made these in a taller height (maybe 8 inches) so I can feel a sturdier ankle support-- especially during strenuous hikes. However, as a day-hike boot-- and-- for the great fit and value of these, I have to say that I'm loving them! ❤️ Columbia is my favorite brand for boots.... They still put out their great quality!

In all honesty, I bought these boots because it was Prime Day and the price was right. I like Columbia jackets, but probably would have replaced my old boots with a different tried-and-true hiking shoe brand if the price on these hadn’t been so good at the time. I checked some reviews here and elsewhere and saw that lots of people were happy with these. I wore them on one intermediate local hike to break them in, but they surprisingly didn’t need any real breaking in. They were good to go right away. I ended up wearing them on a week-long family trip to Iceland where we did a ton of hiking and walking. They were comfortable, durable, and held up very well on the rocky terrain and wet weather (my feet stayed completely dry!). I definitely jammed my toe on a few rocks, but didn’t feel a thing in these shoes - they kept my feet very protected. Best of all, they wore well from the remote volcanic areas of Iceland with my athletic wear, to the streets of Reykjavik with a pair of jeans and a sweater. Also, I have flat feet with a very strong pronation (see photo), and my feet and ankles didn’t tire out in these boots at all. If I’d had the time, I would have added some inserts for arch support (and will do so for the next hike), but I was pleasantly surprised at how well these were able to support my poorly designed feet without them. For those wondering about sizing, I typically wear a size 7.5 to 8, depending on the shoe. I got these in 8 and they fit perfectly. I was worried because with hiking socks, it felt like my big toe might be too close to the front of the boot, but it turned out to be totally fine and no issues at all. My toes never slid or hit the front.

I have purchased these boots multiple times (on the third pair of black ones). They have taken me all over the world. They are perfectly designed for my narrow foot and I can walk miles with them just out of the box - without any blisters. I never get sore feet. Perhaps I have a foot suited to the boots - or maybe they are just great hiking boots. My last trip I walked more than 200 miles in the Algerian Sahara on really rough rocky terrain - I wore them every day for every mile and then bought another pair as soon as I got home. I figured they earned their retirement after that trip. They are waterproof, comfortable, nice looking (not overly tech) and with the hooks for the last two laces they are pretty easy on and off in the airport. I did trip once (at the airport ironically) when the loop of one boot hooked on the other boots top hook - so tie them twice to not have large loops - or I am clumsy. They are also really light weight - and love the suede feel of the exterior. They clean up pretty good as well with a damp cloth although the boots do get scuffed and scratched up a bit - character. They have great cushion - but not too much that they feel bulky - and great ankle support yet feel flexible. Basically they are perfect and I wear them traveling and for work (on construction job sites) in any weather and everywhere else!! I am sure I will keep buying them and I hope they keep making them. I want to give a bit of backstory. We have recently gotten more serious about hiking and backpacking and I spent a week looking and comparing shoes before deciding on these. And I'm glad I did! We're out in Arkansas, in the Ouachita Mountains, and are preparing to do the entire Ouachita Trail in one go next year (it is 223 miles), so I needed to prepare way in advance with good shoes. As of late, we've been doing anywhere from 5-8 miles a day and are getting ready to do upwards of 10-15 miles a day. So far, I love these! There is a lot of different terrain as you're going up and down these mountains, and the grip on these has proven to be great. They provide great ankle support, while not coming way up your ankle/leg. I've "rolled" my ankle a couple times, and I think they've paid for themselves just in saving my ankles! They are extremely comfortable and lightweight weight and have made all the difference in our hikes. They've also held up having to walk through small creeks as well; I haven't gotten them completely wet yet though. The material they're made with is fantastic, they're very well made. I'll try to post another update in a month or two when I've got a few more miles on them. But as of right now, I definitely recommend these if you're going out hiking or backpacking.

I LOVE these shoes. They have been through the Smoky Mountains, the Allegheny Mountains, farm living, and now the Olympic National Park. I have owned them for three years and was so impressed I had to come back to write a review. Warning, there is a small break-in time but then they’re ready for endless adventures. Positives: -three years in, still waterproof! Spent five hours in the Hoh rainforest and nothing got in! -if you do end up accidentally stepping in water higher than the shoe top, they dry pretty fast. -if your feet swell while hiking, you can easily adjust the shoes. -the treads are still going strong! I accidentally melted one part from pushing around campfire logs, but that was my fault. Didn’t affect the functionality of the shoes though! -Easy to spray clean! -Nice ankle support and it’s adjustable. -my feet don’t hurt in these boots. Negatives: -if you want super fancy colors, these might not be the boots you are looking for. -if you friends care about fancy boutique shoe labels, you might get some eyebrow raises… but you can buy four pairs of these in different colors for the price of one of theirs. Basically, these are some tough, highly dependable, and durable boots. If something happens to them, you won’t be super bummed because they’re not ridiculously expensive. If you leave them somewhere, you’ll be sad but easily replaceable with the same amazing boots. When you have them for three years or more, you’ll thank me for your dependable adventure buddies.

Have used them only once but they help up well and didn't need breaking in. The sole is very hard though. The slightly bigger size meant I could fit a softer inner sole in which I did. I don't know that i would have been quite so pleased with the boots had i not had some extra cushioning.

Muito bom! Só não entendi muito bem a numeração, pedi 12, esta 12 na caixa, mas a bota está como 13. Uso 39 no BR, precisava do equivalente ao 40 (pra ficar um acima mesmo, mas o 12 ficou bemm grande), mas melhor folgado, usei assim mesmo rs. Achei super confortável, e a impermeabilização parece boa
