Fragile
Looks cool, but it’s very fragile. I can barely move it without something crumbling. Not great for kids because of how easily the pieces come off. The lights also stoped working after a few minutes.

PIECES are standard size.INSTRUCTIONS are a large glue bound booklet about 120 pages IIRC. The print scale is large, the format is well spaced, the print quality is great. Thankfully it also uses greyscaling of pieces from previous steps because with all these black pieces I'd have been annoyed it it didn't.BAGS are numbered for a five phase assembly with nominations in the instructions.SAILS are fabric and were about 90% crease free. I've seen kits that go out of the way to protect the sails from creasing and I've seen kits that intentionally fold them up to get in the box. This one I'm not sure if I just got lucky because while they weren't all folded up they easily could have been as it seems they were just inserted in with the rest of the bags in no particular special manner. I could just be nit-picking but creases in sails can ruin kits. Having said that I was able to resolve the minor creases with an iron heated only on the lowest setting and left to cool a bit before pressing. I went ahead and did it to all of them just to crisp them up since the intentional fray in the design of these tattered sails gets really fine in some spots.RIGGING the sails need to be rigged with thread that is included but requires tying and trimming to fit. I have three bits of advice here: 1) Do the work off model, you'll end up popping fewer pieces loose, 2) Look ahead at all the steps and sort out which length of thread goes with which sail, and 3) when trimming leave excess and just wrap it around your pieces because then if sometimes comes loose you've got material to work with.LIGHTING oh boy if you've never worked with fairy lights you're going to either have fun or go mad. There are several very fine, very delicate strands that need to be located and stowed. The instructions guide you through this. A battery box is included, batteries are not.DESIGN the keel uses large slabs held together with friction pins. You'll basically have the entire keel laid by step 5. Having done layered keels on even larger ships before I'll tell you this method is a lot faster but the structural stress is now distributed through the friction pins instead of layers of stud. Reinforcement does come later as the hull goes up.

Great presentation and building experience
I love, love, love how more non-big-L sets are coming out that are big-L equivalent in terms of piece fitment and instruction quality, and this one is one of those. The box it comes in is really nice and sturdy and has great pictures of the ship, the pieces are bagged up really well, the instruction booklet is well-made with clear pictures and instructions, and - most importantly - the piece fitment is great. This feels like putting together a big-L set and it looks awesome on the shelf, too.

Pirate Ship
This is one of the best building block sets that I’ve ordered. This is definitely not for a little kid and I would recommend it for maybe age 12 or older. It took a long time to assemble but it was really fun. I cannot believe how big this is. I love all the little details even the lights. I’m really impressed by the size of this.Great value for the price, five out of five stars.
