A heartbreaking look at what alcohol consumption does to a baby in the womb and the ripple effects that has. As a sister of an FAS person, it hit close to home. Many tears shed while reading this book. It’s a bit outdated in science but the overall message doesn’t change. Alcohol consumption while pregnant ruins lives and creates a life of hardship an innocent child never asked for. My brother was a bright light to this world. His life mattered as much as anyone else’s but it wasn’t without trauma and heartbreak. A must read for all women who are planning to have children and for families who live with an FAS person.

The book The Broken cord was truly a excellent book, It is one of those books where once you pick it up you cant put it down, I read it in two days!!. Captivating. I had no idea the affects of fetal alchohol syndrome had on these poor chidren that suffer from this thru No fault of their own, Just because their parents drank too much during pregnancy these children have such a hard road ahead of them. The author explains in vivid, honest and grippig detail of what it is like raising a child like this when he didnt find out this is what his child was suffering from until many many years later. A real eye opener. I think every obgyn doctor should make their patients read this book!!!

Not enough words to describe this fantastic book. Anyone who is at all connected with children of special needs, or connected with children in the adoption/foster system should read this book. It clearly, and engagingly gives such a clear picture of how life really is, not how one may imagine it is, living with children with special needs, or in this case FAS. The writing itself is so interesting that the book is hard to put down.

Amazing book and good quality

I am writing this review as information for other consumers, but not as a critique of the vendor who was responsive to my needs in every way. I would definitely use them again. I ordered the audio cassette of The Broken Cord for my uncle who is legally blind. He said most of the audio was okay but toward the end of the cassette, the audio was distorted and not listenable. Realizing how difficult it is to assure sound quality with old cassette tapes, I won't risk ordering used cassettes again.

I am on the 8th chapter so far. It is an interesting book. It really does enlighten people as to the problems of alcoholism. I am hoping to learn more as I continue to read this book.

EXCELLANT portrayal of what fetal alcohol syndrome does to a victim. I bought it for a friend whose adopted son has it. I read it when it first came out a few years ago. It is well written by a PhD anthropologist whose adopted son has it too.

I read this book years ago and it made such an impression on me that I thought it was time to get my own copy. I read up what had happened to the author and his family since-all terribly sad and this made the book even more poignant. Recommend this book.

What to say about a man who is such a caring person, children who have been damaged, we should all read this book. It should be used in every school, to teach both girls and boys the fact of alcohol abuse.

I love the mix of personal story telling and information. I learned a lot about FASD and the story was really engaging.

I loved this book! I buy copies every time I find it on sale and give them away. Good picture of the causes and effects of FAS.
