Why does water remain at the bottom of the drain core?

The drain keeps a bit of water at the bottom to stop bad smells and water from flowing back. This water barrier is like a mini-pond that gets refreshed every time you use the drain.

How should I choose between the 2.4‘’ and 3.3‘’ depth specifications?

The deeper the specification, the more water it holds. If you're going to be away on a trip or business for an extended period without draining, the deeper specification will maintain the odor control for a longer time.(2.4''-20days ; 3.3''- 40days )
