Excellent Pool Cleaner
This Polaris Vac-Sweep 280 is the VERY BEST pool cleaner out there. It was recommended by the person who cleans our pool and she was spot on - this is amazing. It does the job daily, without hesitation. It moves throughout the pool easily, doesn't get tangled, and it's quiet. Love this!

Works Well: A Polaris Vac-Sweep 280 F5 Pressure-Side Automatic In-Ground Pool Cleaner Review
We started with a Polaris pool cleaner before our pool guy conned us into trading it in for a Pentair. He told us the black Pentair would work as well and look good in our pool. Well, he was half right, the black did look good in the pool, but the Pentair never performed very well. When it started falling apart we opted to replace instead of repair. We decided to move back to Polaris, and researched the Black Max. However choosing a black option added significant cost. We also researched more expensive models, however the sales associates at Leslie's pools explained how the more expensive models were newer and less proven while being more costlier to maintain. Being frugal with our money, we decided on the Polaris 280. Installation started with removing the old Pentair from our in-ground pool, including the wall fitting. Then I reinserted the new one using the recommended water flow restrictor. Once in place I connected the hose and sized the line per the instructions. Lastly, I connected the Polaris 280 to the hose and placed it in the pool. I took my time and made sure I understood what I was doing, even so it only took about an hour to set up. There are fine tuning options available to correct over spinning and such, but all worked well for me with the factory settings. The Pentair would constantly get stuck, requiring us to go out and free it. We don't have this problem with the Polaris 280. Even when it hits the hose at the intake at the wall fitting, it manages to free itself. If you're looking for a pool sweep that actually works and is reasonable to maintain, the Polaris Vac-Sweep 280 F5 Pressure-Side Automatic In-Ground Pool Cleaner is a worthy option at a reasonable price when compared to the alternative. PROS: Better than our old Pentair Actually sweeps and cleans Problem free and lower maintenance costs CONS: A bit pricy (look for a warehouse deal)

Works great with my solar skimmer
So much better than the pentair racer that came with our pool. That thing got stuck everywhere, and no adjustments could solve it. This one has lots of adjustments to help it turn instead of getting stuck. I put my swimsuit on and jumped in the pool with it. I would set it to the spot where the racer got stuck. Same problem with Polaris at first. But I adjusted the float and the jet, boom, it turns. There are a few times it still gets stuck somewhere, but the rescue valve opens every few minutes and drags it to another party of the pool. So it is never totally stuck. I recently added an Aiper Surfer S2 solar skimmer. They say that won't work with a pressure hose cleaner like the Polaris. But I got them to play nice. I removed 6 floats from the Polaris hose. So only a couple of floats holding it at the surface. It doesn't get tangled, and the skimmer can push right over the last couple of floats. Works great and the pool looks amazing. It stays so clean now. Skimmer gets most things that blow in, before they can sink. The Polaris gets anything that manages to sink. Very happy with the Polaris.

Great vacuum for leaves
We replaced our old Polaris 280 after 18 years! We tried a cheaper brand but returned it. The leaves were getting stuck in the neck of the net basket. The Polaris works much better for that. Gave 4 stars because sometimes gets stuck in the corner by our steps. All in all it works well!

Solid and reliable
I had a old Pentair Kreepy Krauly Platinum that was aging and giving me constant issues, mostly with getting tangled in its own hose. So when looking for replacement I settled on the 280. Most review sites had it as the top no-frills pressure side cleaner so that affected my decision. Delivery was fast and installation was straight forward. Directions were clear on how to set up the length of the hose but that did require a couple of cuts and measurements. Just follow the instructions clearly as written and you'll have no problem. Coming from the Pentair, I like that the Polaris bag is zip closure. That seems more durable long term than the plastic clips that Pentair used. Likewise the bag clip to the leader hose is a plastic C that just snaps on instead of velcro on the Pentair that broke down quickly in pool water. I didn't have to make any adjustments, just used the quick connect to my existing booster pump threaded connector on the side wall of my pool. This cleaner seems to only need about 2 hours to get all areas of my pool. It doesn't climb up to higher steps, but thats to be expected and I don't think any cleaner would do differently in this price range. Very satisfied so far, no tangles on the cords in the first 3 weeks of running it.

This was a replacement for our ancient Polaris 180 which had stopped working properly. It is so much better than the old machine and does a fantastic job of cleaning the pool and sucks up and catches leaves and other detritus as small as large grains of sand. I’ve only had it a week so I can’t comment on reliability it I would expect it to last years. Note: I bought this from a seller in France and had failed to consider (and was not warned) the import charges/VAT when it was delivered which added nearly £100 to the price. Be warned if buying from overseas.

Polaris are superb. The 280 does an excellent job of keeping my pool clean. Also you can see immediately if the dirt bag need’s emptying as its on top.I empty mine once a week normally, unless its full. It sucks up leaves, sand, insects. It climbs the walls too if you have it adjusted correctly. Also the life of the 280 can be extended by after market replacement parts. No motors, no charging, no hassle of batteries dying, just reliable cleaning, everytime and every day. Its design hasn’t changed in 15 years because it doesnt need to. Its design just works.
