Q: Planning to pour individual slabs (2 ft by 2 ft) for a backyard project. Can this be done using this tool by one person?

No. You need the other person for the mat to work. And work it does. Crazy good. Two old people poured an incredible amount of concrete using this mat. Find a friend for the day or hire a neighbor kid. But don’t hurt yourself by stirring in a pan. Use this mat.

Q: I make my own potting mix and would like to mix peat moss & compost with this. What's the volume of the bag?

It holds around one cubic foot of concrete, although we use less when mixing because of the weight. You should be able to do more than that if using it for potting mix.

Q: How do you mix non ready-mix concrete from scratch using sand and Portland and additives

This mat mixer is the best! A few flips and everything was mixed and ready to pour. We used sackcrete but you can make your own cement mix. We mixed one bag at a time 60 lbs plus about 6 lbs of water. Just have to make small batches. I do not remember the mortar mix but some thing like 7 shovels of sand 5 shovels of Portland and one or two shovels of something else then add water to the cement mixer May have to do three sand 2 Portland and 1 other Just start with a small batch and make adjustments They positive things here is that it mixed really fast with the mat mixer for us but again we used secrete. We poured a 12 x12 slab mixing one 60 lb bag at a time in about 5 hours. Goidv
