Life-affirming book
This book was given to me as a gift when I was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer at 39 years old. I cannot express how wonderful and comforting this book has been for me. The focus is on living in the present and being comfortable with who you are and where you are right now, while practicing Buddhist principles to achieve the ultimate goal of enlightenment, are practical to everyone in the world. I was raised catholic and am currently agnostic, I would not say this book comes across as religious in any way, and I think it can be enjoyed by anyone who might follow other religious beliefs. Ultimately, being kind to everyone, including yourself, if a message we could all learn to practice daily.

Daily read
This is a beautiful book. It is one I have been reading every day, and it helps me to be in touch with healthier and wiser aspects of myself. I look at Buddhism as psychological practices for living rather than a 'religion'. It provides ancient wisdom about how to deal with myself-- how to conduct my relationship with myself and my reactions, emotions, and such. It does not negate my Christianity, but it does enhance my mental health and my efforts to connect and serve in kindness with others .

This book will ground you in ways like nothing else does.
This book literally changed my heart, in some way.I don’t think I can explain how much wisdom it contains and how healing it was to read every word.I found this book in the midst of, what felt, a huge uncertainty, I was feeling lost and unsure of pretty much everything in my life…and I couldn’t be more grateful. It was truly a blessing.I don’t think any book ever calmed me down so much, gave me hope & made me feel so grounded. I already recommended it to all my friends and I highly recommend it to anyone who’s struggling with feeling lost in life. It really helped me to get my happiness and contentment back. I’m so thankful.Absolute must read <3

Beautiful, very readable book
Beautifully simple, readable meditative book. Highly recommend this to anyone interested in Buddhist philosophy! Pema Chodron writes in a very straightforward way. I read it, then read it again and know I will go back to it anytime I want another dose!

Incredibly direct and poignant teachings
In a tumultuous world in which we are all living right now, with daily headlines of violence and mistrust in our communities and our leaders, these solid and ancient teachings are a collection of enabling us to each return to what is really important in order to exist AND co-exist with others in peace & compassion. I would highly recommend this to anyone who is either searching for tools to find a more grounded energy in his/her daily life or someone who is a chronic worrier. These Buddhist principles outline the philosophies and attitudes that can hopefully encourage each of us to find a level of loving-kindness for ourselves, and then expand that to those around us - even our perceived enemies.

Very good book, no fluff.
I give away Pema Chodron books like banks give away calendars. She gets right at the Eastern teachings from a Western perspective, and points out pitfalls along the way. I have lots of a-ha moments when I read her work. The Places that Scare You is a great book as well. Namaste.

Every page was highlighted and underlined
The media could not be loaded. Very disappointed as single word in the book was underlined and most highlighted. Not what i was expecting. Please check out the video.

The big lesson lesson one can learn from this book is that truly delay is not denial. It helps with ideas on how to develop the habit of thanks- SUCCESS MINDSET: The book that removes the scale from your eyes so you can see the solutions to those problems confronting you now. giving which has the capacity to enable us cope with difficult times.
