A great portable studio recorder for a home musician or podcaster
I bought this to replace an ageing Tascam DP-008 digital recorder for use in my home studio. I have been very happy with how it has slotted in, and the multiple input capability has been easy to use. With a 32-bit floating point digital recording ability, it means that is a significant amount of headroom on recording (way more than the Tascam) which has proved of great use when using Modular synths. It is very portable, and can run from batteries (although not tested how long it can run for just on them). The onboard effects are okay, but it should be noted that they are only heard on the outputs (either master out or headphone) - the effects do not get recorded onto any of the tracks. So that great synth solo that you played and recorded and which sounded superb with all that delay and reverb will have been captured in its clean, raw, dry state :)Gripes? To do any in depth configuration changes requires you to use their Zoom Livetrak app (PC/Mac), as there is no onboard screen. And there is so simple way to overdub.Onboard mixing is okay, although it used a multifunction control to allow you set adjust the settings on each channel, rather than having dedicated controls for each. This is not an issue for me, as I have a separate outboard mixing desk should I need anything more complicated.Probably the biggest gripe I have is that if you have it set to capture each individual input to its own recorded track/stem, then it will do that for all inputs, regardless of whether you have anything plugged into them or not. So if you only have, say, 2 of the stereo jacks in use for a recording session, you will still files recorded for the Master, plus the 2 mono tracks and all 4 stereo tracks.Overall I am very happy with this as a digital recorder.

Superb little mixer with a lot of great features for the money
Wow. Amazing compact mixer with a lot more than meets the eye in terms of functionality and features.I primarily bought this for something small to mix all my mini synths and groovebox. What I didn't immediately realise was that it's an interface and does effects too, although no chorus. You can beef up your sound with a bit of delay. Basically if you're sending a synth audio that has no audio effects ( like a behringer) this could help out as the effects can be processed by channel. If you're unhappy with the onboard effects you can efx send from an external unit too.You might think that it's missing obvious eq knobs however you can press the h/m/l button and adjust with the encoder at the bottom of each channel.I haven't yet used the software however out of the box for a dawless set up it was very easy and intuitive. The recording onto sd card will also come in handy. The only down side is the plastic enclosure which is a bit disappointing however it does seem solid. Zoom have made most of their stuff from this type of plastic for decades so I think they know what they are doing.I think the price is very fair considering all the features on offer.

Rosetta and poor send/return otherwise good
On MacOS Aug 25 you have to install Rosetta to properly access features plus send/return are stereo-to-mono-ed ie each single send is LR output SO docked one start

Somewhat OK, but flawed, fussy and frustrating!
If you’re looking for a small, portable recorder for music and podcasting, this might be for you…although it’s somewhat fussy to operate and the software is appalling! But, the big issue is that the monitor (to loud speakers) and headphones are linked which means the headphones ONLY work when the monitor is turned up! Of course, if you don’t use monitors, it’s not an issue. But if you do, like so many of us, this product is frustratingly annoying. I just can’t believe Zoom didn’t think of this…it’s such a simple fix!! Check out the reviews…it’s a problem for a lot of people!

Fantastic little mixer/recorder.
Really nice little mixer.Batteries don't last long at all, and i have found i get ground/mains noise if plugged into mains and i'm using condenser microphones, so i use a usb battery when recording with mics.At first i thought the six recorded channels when importing the wavs into ableton or wavelab were unusable because they all looked brickwalled i.e. no dynamics just a solid slab of wav, but i discovered that i could reduce the gain post recording and the wavs would appear clean as if by magic, such is the wonder of 32bit float.

Impressed by how flexible this little mixer is.
This is a really useful device, like a mixing multi tool. I appreciate that the stereo inputs can be switched to 2x mono, because I have some mono synths to connect. It has some basic onboard fx, an external loop, plenty of inputs, and can also work as an audio interface for computer. It also fits into a modular rig, although I haven't tried this personally. I also like that it can record on micro SD cards, as either stereo or multitrack files for import to a computer. Battery power option too! Good for gigs or home/studio use.
