Why does this gochugaru have a shorter expiration date than I expected?

Gochugaru is fresh staple in Korean kitchens, used generously and often—like milk or eggs. It’s not meant to be stored for long, but enjoyed while its color, aroma, and flavor are at their peak. A shorter expiration date means more freshness.

How do you store gochugaru to keep it fresh longer?

Many keep gochugaru in the fridge or freezer after opening. It's a common practice in Korea to preserve its deep red color and rich flavor—especially since it's used so often. You can do the same to keep it vibrant for everyday use.

What if I don’t cook Korean food that often—will I use it all in time?

You might be surprised! From soups and stews to marinades and even sprinkled on eggs, gochugaru adds warmth and flavor to many dishes. Once you start reaching for it, it becomes an everyday staple—just like salt or pepper.
