Birchwood Presto Black STEEL PC9 - versatile blackening solution for iron and steel alloys traditional patina blue and black oxide touch-up (8 oz)

This stuff works excellent! Used it for a bunch of raw steel that I welded up for under-counter brackets, vintage ceiling lighting, etc... Was able to make it look super rustic, without the need to simply paint it black. Depending on how much you use, or how long you leave it on, will determine how dark/blackened the metal becomes.

I needed to sand down the grip safety on a parkerized 1911 A1 a bit as it dug into the web of my hand. Used the Presto Black Steel when I was done and it came out great. A little darker than the original, but you wouldn't really notice unless you were looking for it. Holding up well.

I have not used this product yet, but it was shipped quickly and appears to be as described.

Very disappointed. I tried this product as suggested in the instructions and even in a stronger ratio and it did nothing. Product turned a little black then basically all washed off when rinsing in water. I went back to painting my hardware.

tarnishes steel beautifully. very happy with how it turned out. I sealed it with satin lacquer and my sculpture looks incredible. super easy to use and kinda hard to mess up

Not sure if I need to purchase the chemical that preps the surface first? I've made several attempts and consistently get a black dull oxide finish, which you then have to rub away, or lightly wire brush off only to reveal the true color of slate grey beneath. While the pure iron surface is a lighter grey to begin with moreover after hitting it with a wire brush to bring out a luster, this chemically drops it a few shades darker, but it's hardly black.

Results ranged on used steel bolts. The black coating was uneven, even though bolts were properly scrubbed, cleaned, and coated correctly. Efficacy was also lower than expected for the cost of the product. In some cases, it would be cheaper to purchase newly finished metals.
