12 Year Old Single Malt Whisky | 43% vol | 70cl | Scotch Whisky | Peaty Whisky from Islay | Distinct Smokiness | Fresh | Sweetly Fruity & Smooth-Bodied

I am starting to enjoy the peated side of whisky drinking whilst also enjoying unpeated single malts. This 12 year Caol Ila is 43% ABV and is a lovely golden coloured liquid. The box and bottle are both very attractive. My first impression of the nose was mild smokiness with hints of fruit and nuts and a light spice. The taste is smooth and creamy, light bodied and warming. Very drinkable and I would recommend this for anyone new to peated whisky. It still amazes me how varied whisky can be and obviously everybody has different tastes but I haven't yet come across a bottle that I did not enjoy.

I am writing this review to help others about this Whisky. This is a great choice for someone who loves peaty whiskeys. Amazing value for money when bought at a discount. It is good for a special occasion.

I tried this after it was recommended. I usually like Speyside and Highland whiskies, although I have tried Laphroaig and Lagavullin before. It has a lasting smokiness that is really quite pleasant, but it is a balanced flavour and very smooth. I am glad I tried it.

My current favourite Single Malt. Not as flashy or well known as some of it local island brethren, but has a complex and balanced layering of flavours with the smokiness. It's not the absolute height of some of the other smoke monsters, but there is still plenty of it inside a smooth drinkable whisky. You'll rarely find it for less than £50, so it's not for everyday, but worth trying if you can get your hands on a deal (best I've seen on here is £39) or hinting as a lovely birthday/Christmas present.

Good whisky! It's got smokiness and it's very well balanced, that said there isn't a lot going on in this single malt. It is very smooth then it is only 43%. Would recommend it for entry level. And I did enjoy it but also had better for similar price point.

I am reasonably new on my whisky journey and I am loving trying different whisky's across the board. I kept hearing very good things about this and never got around to grabbing a bottle, i however had it in my watched basket on amazon with a view of buying at some point. Then last week i had a notification in my basket that it had dropped to £36 a bottle and I immediately ordered a bottle. I have to say I am shocked just how good this is, I like peated whisky mainly and this is nothing of the sort, it is smooth, delicious and the taste lingers in your mouth long after a sip. This will now be one of my go to casual drinking bottles i can not fault it all. There isn't much i have tried that betters it at this price point. I hope this review was helpful Cheers Shaun

Middle-aged, whisky fan here. Have to admit my preference is more on the Islay side (not exclusively so). This stuff is just liquid gold. Perfectly balanced (yes, really), smooth and just, well, brilliant. Buy it, savour it, enjoy it. Trouble is I'm prone to a healthy double and the bottle is going down faster than I'd like at this price but worth every penny :-)

フィンラガンにも似たクリーンで力強いピート香を期待して購入。 いざグラスに注いで最初の一口、二口目は、期待通りのスモーキーさと潮風の塩気がガツンと鼻を抜けて「これこれ！」と大満足。しかし、不思議なことに三口目、四口目あたりから、あんなに主張していたピート感が嘘のようにスッと消えてしまいます。 決してウイスキーの味が変わったわけではなく、このカリラ特有の「上品でクリーンな酒質」が理由だと思います。煙のインパクトに鼻が慣れてしまう（麻痺する）と、その奥に隠れていたレモンやグレープフルーツのような柑橘系の甘みや、バーボン樽のまろやかさだけが綺麗に残るイメージです。 【総評】 最初の一瞬はフィンラガン、中盤からはまるで「スモーキーさをまとった上質なハイランドモルト」を飲んでいるかのような、一杯の中でのドラマチックな変化を楽しめます。ずっとガツンとした煙を求め続ける人には「物足りない」と感じるかもしれませんが、この繊細な変化の美しさに気づくと、カリラ12年の本当の凄さが分かります。

Der Caol Ila 12 Jahre ist für mich einer der besten Einstiegswhiskys in die Welt der rauchigen Islay-Malts. Er bietet eine perfekte Balance zwischen maritimen Noten, feinem Torfrauch und einer angenehmen Süße. Tasting Notes: • Nase: Frisch, mit Zitrusfrüchten, leicht medizinischem Rauch und einem Hauch von Meersalz. • Gaumen: Cremig und weich, mit süßen Anklängen von Vanille und Birne, gefolgt von einer eleganten Rauchigkeit. • Abgang: Mittellang, mit Noten von Eiche, Salz und einem sanften, rauchigen Nachhall. Was mir besonders gefällt: • Der Rauch ist präsent, aber nicht überwältigend – ideal für Einsteiger. • Die Komplexität ist beeindruckend für einen 12-jährigen Whisky. • Er eignet sich sowohl zum pur genießen als auch als Begleiter zu herzhaften Speisen. Preis-Leistung: Für rund 36–45 € (je nach Anbieter) bekommt man hier einen hochwertigen Single Malt mit Charakter. Besonders empfehlenswert ist das Geschenkset mit Gläsern – perfekt für Whisky-Liebhaber oder als stilvolles Präsent. Fazit: Ein rundum gelungener Islay-Whisky, der sowohl Kenner als auch Neulinge begeistert. Ich würde ihn jederzeit wieder kaufen!

Je reviens tout juste d’un voyage en Écosse, et c’est dans une petite auberge près du Loch Ness que j’ai goûté ce Caol Ila 12 ans pour la première fois. Ce fut un coup de cœur immédiat. Le nez est élégant, légèrement fumé avec des notes d’agrumes et de fruits secs. En bouche, on retrouve cette signature tourbée propre à Islay, mais tout en subtilité : rien d’agressif, juste ce qu’il faut pour évoquer les embruns, les landes, et les soirées au coin du feu. Le final est sec, herbacé et assez long. C’est vraiment un whisky qui sait se faire remarquer sans en faire trop. Parfait pour initier quelqu’un aux malts tourbés sans les brusquer, ou simplement pour se faire plaisir. ✅ Avantages : 🥃 Tourbé et fumé tout en restant délicat 🌿 Belle complexité entre agrumes, fruits secs et herbacé 🧳 Un goût qui rappelle les Highlands 💰 Excellent rapport qualité/prix pour un 12 ans ❌ À améliorer : ⏳ Peut sembler trop léger pour les amateurs de tourbe très marquée Un whisky que je reprendrai sans hésiter.

En primer lugar, me gustaría comentar que soy un bebedor amateur de Whisky. Hace unos años descubrí los whiskys de Islay y quedé entusiasmado por el sabor. Y no lo hice con un whisky cualquiera: empecé con el fantástico Lavagulin 16. Desde que lo descubrí, ha sido mi whisky favorito y nunca más ha faltado en mi bodega. Después de Lavagulin 16, he probado otros de la misma zona: Lavagulin 12, Laphroaig. Ambos correctos, pero no me han parecido tan buenos como el primero. Hace unos meses quise probar un whisky nuevo, y me habían hablado muy bien del Caol Ila de 12 años. Es un whisky bastante más económico que el comentado anteriormente, sin embargo me ha parecido espectacular. Lo disfruto mucho, tanto como el Lavagulin 16 (espero no ofender a ningún experto), a un precio mucho más asequible. Desde luego, el Caol Ila de 12 años ha llegado para quedarse en mi bodega.
