Really clean and saves me time!
So far so good! We’ve only had the robot for a week but ran it the first time after having not mopped for a few weeks due to surgery. We have two dogs that shed, live where the ground is mostly sand and soil (little grass) and do not have any walkways so both humans and dogs track in a lot of sand and fine dirt. We ran the robot the first time and it did a really impressive job vacuuming and mopping. It went back over a few spots that needed extra care with the mop and quickly mapped the house. I will say it took a long time to vacuum and mop the first time but that’s because it had to catch up on some work we hadn’t done. This thing is quiet! We had it set on the third of four suction powers and my husband fell asleep while it was cleaning our room the first night. I’ve ran it everyday since getting it and it has cleaned the whole home quicker. It does a great job going around obstacles and we even moved a few things after it had mapped the house and it reconfigured the mapping accordingly. The last thing I wanted to do to test the quality of the mopping was the white cloth test. Photo attached! I will mop once a week on my own due to some of the spaces in our home it can’t get to but this has done a great job keeping up with the dog hair and dirt that can accumulate on the floor. The app itself was easy to set up and I haven’t had any issues other users are having but maybe I will with more time. Overall I’m really happy with this purchase!

DO NOT BUY!!!! PIECE OF GARBAGE AND CUSTOMER SUPPORT IS AWFUL!
Avoid Narwal at All Costs – Terrible Product, Even Worse Customer Service I put this machine to work. I have a 3,000 sq ft main floor with mixed flooring, and I ran my Narwal for almost six months. At first, it seemed fine, but that didn’t last long. Here’s where it all went south: • For the price, this thing is garbage. The cost doesn’t come close to matching how it performs. • The mapping is awful. It never cleaned “edge to edge” like it claims. Even after several remaps, it constantly missed large areas. • Maintenance is expensive and constant. Each mop cartridge costs $35–$40, and you’re forced to buy Narwal’s own brand. The vacuum bags are also pricey. Knockoff versions barely work and can cause dust to blow all over the inside of the unit. • It doesn’t even empty itself properly. Every other cleaning, I had to take it apart and empty the onboard dust cup manually. • The dirty water tank stinks, always. I cleaned it every single morning, and no matter what I did, it still smelled foul. The design makes it impossible to clean completely. • The base tray grows mold. The area where the robot “cleans” its mop pads turns into a science experiment in a day or two if you don’t scrub it constantly. Then came the disaster. Around month four, I noticed water pooling around the base. When I moved it, I found that the base had been leaking underneath and my wood floors were buckled, and the baseboard was pulling away from the wall. After doing some research on Reddit, I found that this is a known issue: the pump that drains water into the dirty tank can fail, flooding under the base. Because we ran it nightly, the leak had been happening for days, hidden under the giant base. I contacted Narwal support, the only way to reach them is through a ticket system. While waiting for a response, I filed a claim with my homeowner’s insurance, who sent a mitigation crew. Unfortunately, our flooring was discontinued, which meant we had to replace almost all of it on the bottom floor, a $22,000 repair. Narwal’s response? They emailed me in the middle of the night (their customer service is overseas) apologizing and asking for photos and videos of the damage, which I sent along with the repair estimate. Their solution was insulting: they offered me a free accessory kit and a $30 check. I asked for a full refund or a replacement device, and they refused. This dragged on for more than three weeks, with days between each reply, while my house was being torn apart. Finally, I reached out to Amazon, explained the situation, and they stepped up like a company should. They had UPS pick up the unit, and once it was returned, they issued me a full refund. Amazon is the real hero here. Narwal, on the other hand, has permanently lost my trust. Every time I see one of their ads, I warn people to stay away. We replaced the Narwal with a Shark, and it’s night and day. The cleaner costs $13 for a huge bottle, no dust bags needed, and it actually cleans edge to edge, something the Narwal never managed once. Save yourself the money, the stress, and the damage to your home. Do not buy anything from Narwal.

Best robot I have ever owned
I purchased mine over 4 months ago now. I waited to make a review to be sure. I had a Deebot prior to this for almost a month before ultimately sending it back due to leaks. I was happy with it but it broke down quickly. That allowed me to take a chance on the promo discount on the Narwal Z Freo. I am not happy with this robot, I am thrilled with it. Robbie amazes me every day with his ability to clean, avoid obstacles, and never get lost. I have learned to not criticize its cleaning ability until after it says done. After first getting it I would once in a while see it leave a spot and manually clean it. Only to find it later re-mopping the same area and telling me so in the app. I'm not sure how it does it but it's way smarter than any iRobot I've ever owned. The edge mode works nearly perfect, the vacuum and roller is truly tangle free. The cleaning fluid lasted me 4 months before I needed to replace it. I have also added the stain remover pack and seems to help. No issues with leaks from robot or base station. Never gets stuck or tangled in cables/cords. Always docks, sometimes retries but always gets in. Clean/dirty tanks are a breeze to exchange due to not having to mix cleaner. Mop pads and dirt bag lasted 3 months with heavy use. Battery lasts for entire lower floor. It's the smartest and best cleaning robot I have owned and I've been buying these things since 2001. Now for the not so thrilled part of the review. Mapping is great but it sometimes recognizes walls as simple obstacles and this prevents you from dividing up rooms. Zones work to override this. It's also tall and can't get under a lot of our furniture. Solution is expensive if not on sale and proprietary. Cleaning upper floor is a pain because you have to walk the robot down to the base station multiple times if you are mopping. Advice: clean your base station where it cleans the mop pads. I let it go to long the first time and it was disgusting.

Almost a year later, still performing flawlessly
I read lots and lots of robo reviews before settling on this one. Robot vaccums are a "get what you pay for" situation. Yes, it's more expensive than the cheap alternatives. It's also much higher quality! It works autonomously, gets unstuck, and it super easy to control from the app. The house is kept clean with perfectly straight vacuum lines. The hardwood looks better than it has in years. I would purchase this same model again in a heartbeat.

DO NOT BUY! DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY OR YOUR PATIENCE!!!!
Sit down and grab a cup of coffee! This is a long review! This item is absolutely TERRIBLE! It is getting one star because I cannot give it zero. I have tile floors and dogs and I made this very expensive purchase to keep my floors up between the bi-monthly cleaning lady visits. Let me tell you that I have to mop after it "finishes" mopping and I have to vacuum after it "finishes" vacuuming. About the only thing this machine is good for is leaving clumps of dog hair around the house so I am easily able to see where I need to follow up with my vacuum cleaner. I've formatted it repeatedly and it still will not clean any one room from edge to edge. I will sit and watch it vacuum/mop/vacuum and mop and it will go down the center of the room and then come back a little later and maybe hit the right side of the room, if I'm lucky and then go back to base and declare that it is complete. It will not go near any of the baseboards, will not go up and under my kitchen cabinets, even though there is ample room, and it will not vacuum my living room carpet at all! It is extremely frustrating because this was not a cheap endeavor. Yes, I have asked ai for help, yes I have contacted their customer service, and yes I have gotten help from friends and family that own other Narwal products and NOTHING HELPS. Because I saw enough positive reviews for this product, I purchased it, praying I would be one of the lucky ones. The first one I purchased for myself at Christmas came used. I mean filthy, with a torn inside box and who knows what nastiness inside. I didn't know this right away because with the craziness of the holidays, I didn't open the product until I had it almost 30 days. Luckily, Amazon quickly picked up that first purchase and reordered a new one for me. I opened the box immediately upon receipt and it was brand new. I thought all was good...until I formatted it and tried my first vacuum then mop. It was terrible. Streaky and pretty much ineffective. I am appalled that Narwal and Amazon continue to offer this product and I am kicking myself that I didn't return it when I had the chance. DO NOT ORDER THIS PRODUCT. Do NOT. It is pathetic and my cheapy Tineco and my good Dyson's both do a MUCH better job at vacuuming and my plain old mop and bucket does a far superior job at cleaning my floors. Terrible!!!

I found love with a Narwal!
Nothing better out there than Narwal! I would know, I tested them all. Not only this robot vacuums very well and is silenced, but it’s also an impeccable mopping feature. My floors are clean, despite having four dogs. I love the app as well and how I can precisely program my robot. I had to deal with Narwal customer service and let me tell you, They have been more than fantastic. I will always be a Narwal customer only from now on. I previously had the ultra X model and I was already very satisfied with it, but this one is the pinacle in regard of quality. One day, I plan to connect it directly to our water system, as this model allows you to do so. No more exchange of water. how magnificent will that be thank you now I love you. Ps yes I agree Narwal items are expensive, but you also pay and get what you paid for. I have disabilities and multiple health issues and this is a savior to me. The only challenge I find with my robot is the fact that it is quite heavy on my disabled hands, and also it is difficult to clean the bottom tray as I can’t bend that low. Therefore I leave this task to my husband wink wink.

Loved the old Narwal Freo, and the Freo Z is even better!
I purchased the previous version of the Narwal Freo back in 2023 and have been very happy with the results. Then I saw the specs on the Narwal Freo Z and I was impressed enough that I bought the Freo Z for upstairs and have moved the old Freo downstairs. As for the Freo Z, the vacuum suction is stronger and it automatically empties into the base station (you had to manually dump the vacuum canister on the old Freo). We have hardwood floors throughout, so the mop function was most important to us, and it doesn't disappoint! The Freo Z does a great job in open space (particularly in obstacle avoidance). The edge cleaning is good, but like any of these robots, edges / corners aren't their strong suit. The Freo Z turns itself sideways to get as much of the edges as it can. The base station does a great job of washing and drying the mop heads. My only suggestion is that Narwal should make refillable detergent containers. They changed the container shape from the old Freo to the new Freo Z, so I have a lot of detergent for the old Freo that won't get used as quickly now that the old unit is downstairs. Now I need to buy different detergent for the new Freo Z. That said, the Freo Z doesn't seem to go through detergent quickly; we're still on our first bottle and have been using it for approximately 3 months.

Updated Review – Great Mopping, Vacuuming Didn’t Work for My Needs
Disappointing Experience – Defective Product & Poor Support** ⭐☆☆☆☆ (1/5) I had high hopes for the Narwal Freo Z Ultra, but my experience has been nothing short of frustrating. I received my unit on October 13, 2024, and by November 3, 2024, I had already reported an issue with the vacuuming and dust collection function. Their support team recommended changing the settings to maximum vacuum power and always-on dust collection, which I did. Unfortunately, this was only a temporary fix. By January 9, 2025, the problem returned ( dust bin gets to full and vacuum becomes ineffective ) , proving that the initial recommendation was not a real solution. After another round of troubleshooting, I was asked to send the unit in for repairs. Weeks later, I received it back, only to find that the dust collection issue was still not fixed. Despite repairs, and multiple attempts to adjust settings there is clear failure of the unit to perform as advertised, Narwal has refused to issue a refund, citing their 30-day return policy—even though I reported the problem initially within the first 30 days and have been dealing with this ongoing issue for months. Their only suggestion now is to reach out to Amazon, essentially passing the responsibility rather than standing behind their product. This entire process has been an exhausting back-and-forth, leaving me without a properly functioning vacuum for extended periods. If you’re considering this product, beware of poor quality control and a poor support process. I would strongly recommend looking at other brands that offer better reliability and customer service. Update I originally rated this product 1 star due to ongoing issues with the vacuuming and dust collection performance. After months of troubleshooting, I’m happy to say that Narwal’s customer service team eventually provided a full refund, which I appreciate. In terms of performance, the mopping function on the Freo Z Ultra is truly excellent — it handled my tile floors beautifully and left them very clean. However, the vacuuming feature did not meet my expectations, especially for my particular home layout and needs. Despite adjusting settings and multiple troubleshooting efforts, the vacuum struggled with dust collection and required too much manual intervention for a system that’s meant to be fully automated. While the product didn’t work out for me, Narwal’s customer service was ultimately professional and stood behind their product. I would recommend the Freo Z Ultra mainly for those prioritizing mopping performance over vacuuming needs.

Chip sensor overheats disappointing customer support
The chip sensor is faulty. Died on my unit and refuses to move now. Will cost $100 just to get it to the warehouse to check how much it will eventually cost to repair. Disappointed.

ABSOLUTELY GREAT PRODUCT
EDIT: I have had this machine for 6 months now and I am still THRILLED with it. It's strange to hear that people have had issues because that has not been my experience whatsoever! I should mention that I have five cats that shed and scatter clay litter around near their boxes in addition to construction dirt and dust and spouse that brings in lots of dirt and mess after a day's work. I purchased this machine right when it came out which was prior to a home renovation. I had my eye on the X ultra but just as I was about to purchase, the Z ultra was released so I bought the new version. I have been using it both pre, during, and post renovation and its performance has been flawless. I purchased the water exchange system for it which allowed me to have it plumbed in as part of my overall renovation and not worrying about filling or emptying tanks EVER has been amazing. The cleaning power is superb and the App always stays connected and I found it easy to use. It mapped accurately and let me divide and name my spaces as I wanted. I even changed the location of its home base when I renovated and it automatically figured out the new location of the base. This machine and its intuitive design has made an enormous difference in my life, giving my time back to me while keeping my new floors company-ready at all times. Zero regrets!!!
