A Long-Term Perspective: One Year with the Ultimea Poseidon D80
After a full year of daily use, I felt it was time to share my thoughts on the Ultimea Poseidon D80. To provide some context, I live with a disability that affects my hearing, so I typically don’t consider myself the primary target audience for high-end audio equipment. However, drawn in by the competitive price point and a solid wave of positive user feedback, I decided to give this system a try. I am very glad I did. Reliability and Efficiency First and foremost, this system has been remarkably reliable. In an era where tech often requires constant troubleshooting, I have encountered absolutely no technical issues over the past twelve months. One of my favorite features is its energy efficiency; the system is designed to power down naturally shortly after the TV is turned off. It’s a small "quality of life" detail that provides peace of mind, especially if I accidentally leave it running after a long day. Performance and the "Star Trek" Test While I initially didn't focus much on the surround sound features, the setup process through both the physical remote and the mobile app was incredibly intuitive. The actual performance, however, is what truly surprised us. We recently had a moment while watching an episode of Star Trek that perfectly illustrated the system's quality. My father, who was sitting nearby, kept turning around, convinced that the "door knocking" sound effects in the show were actually me working at my desk behind him. The spatial audio was so crisp and well-placed that it created a genuine sense of immersion, blurring the line between the media and the room itself. Ease of Use and Future Plans The "plug and play" nature of the D80 makes it accessible for anyone, regardless of their technical background. It supports virtually every connection type you might need, and the Ultimea app UI is exceptionally user-friendly. Because of the hardware's consistent reliability and the software's ease of use, I am now looking into getting a dedicated Ultimea surround sound setup for my new desktop workstation. If you are looking for a reliable, high-quality audio solution that punches well above its price bracket, I cannot recommend the Poseidon D80 enough. Key Takeaways Build Quality: Ultra-reliable hardware with a sleek profile. Ease of Setup: True plug-and-play capability with a streamlined app. Audio Depth: High-quality surround sound that creates a truly immersive environment. Efficiency: Excellent auto-shutoff features for energy conservation.

Way more capable than its price would suggest.
Preliminary impression is extremely positive, you just have to know what to expect from what is essentially a glorified soundbar. This system far exceeds my expectations so far; if that changes, I'll come back and update this review. First of all, what it's not: - This is not a room-shaker - This is not a window rattler - This is not a home theater in a box - There are no up-firing speakers with this system, nor the ability to add them - Your typical soundbar If that's what you're looking for, you WILL be disappointed by this system. Keep reading, though, because that might only be what you THINK you're looking for. Here's what this system IS: - Extremely flexible and easy to set up - Extremely easy to configure for a very pleasing theater experience - A quite competent solution for enhancing music, movies, and gaming without breaking the bank - Able to be set up in a way that compensated for the lack of up-firing speakers - More than capable of filling my 12x16 room with sound If you have neighbors and lack a sound-insulated dedicated theater room, you probably don't need more than this. If what I wrote above makes sense to you, you will very likely be happy with this system. My setup: Front and back walls are 12ft, side walls are 16ft Ceiling-mounted projector providing a 95" 16:9 display centered at eye level for seated viewing at a distance of 7ft Soundbar (L, R, and center) mounted 14" below and 26" behind lower edges of screen Side speakers mounted 18" on center from side walls, just below the vertical center of and 10" behind the screen Rear speakers mounted on rear wall, 12" on center from side walls and 8" on center from ceiling Subwoofer situated in right rear corner of the room, raised 35" off the ground Due to how Dolby Atmos content is (typically at least -- your mileage may vary depending on the content in question) mixed, most higher-positioned sounds are panned more toward the rear and lower-positioned sounds are pushed toward the center channel. This is, in equal parts, down to how our ears perceive sound in a 3D environment and to accommodate Atmos systems with up-firing speakers, which angle toward the rear of the room (the latter being a design decision taking the former into account). That psycho-acoustic reality is precisely what my setup takes advantage of and replicating my setup as closely as you can will give you a very convincing Dolby Atmos setup using this system. For 5.1 and 7.1 non-Atmos content, the same setup will give you a very Atmos-like (but not quite) experience. For $300, with an understanding of what you're getting and some careful setup and installation, you won't be disappointed by this system AT ALL. If you find it on sale (I found it for $230) you really can't go wrong picking this up.

Great Sound System at a Great Price
I love this system my old system was a Hisense an I could never hear the rear speakers. An I always had to keep the sound up between 16 an 25 so I can hear the movies an shows that I watch. But this system I only have to set the volume at 10 at most. I also found out after trying to get the Subwoofer to pair with the Soundbar that you have to push button for pairing on the remote at the same time you push the button on the Subwoofer to get them to pair. This is a great one I can hear every single thing. When you set this up you will need to lower the volume because this system starts out real loud. I don't have a hearing problem. An I have an Insignia 55in Ultra HD 4K television that pairs up great. For the price this is a great system so go get it while the price is low believe me you won't be disappointed. Update: I have the complete Blu-ray versions of Tremors an I am watching the first one an I can hear everything in the movie the trailer being chained to the bulldozer all of it I never could hear all of it with the old system I had. I am in love with this one cause I can hear all the sound effects an the voices clearly.

Good Price / Bad support & Product
The product looks good and sounds good when it works. The sound bar keeps disconnecting from the TV. I have tried various cables but doesn't resolve the issue. Customer support is difficult to get a live agent on the phone. It took 10 phone calls to get a hold of someone. Their advice was basic instructions, try other cable, restart, reset, all of what I had already done. Good price, but bad customer service and product. It is not fully wireless. Two front speakers connect to center soundbar by wire and two back speakers connect to bass subwoofer by wire. Returning product.

Not bad at its current price. The next step up in audio quality would cost double.
I've had multiple surround systems over the last 15 years. I purchased the D80 system to upgrade our bedroom audio. We have been using a little Streambar for the last 7 years. It was an amazing bang for your buck system but was lacking in two things. Bass and sound stage. It sounded like a mono speaker but was a big improvement over the TV's built in speakers. We have a wonderful theater room where we watch most movies but recently the kids have been taking it over so I am relegated to watch in our bed room. The price of the D70 is what caught my eye but it only does "virtual" surround sound using Ultimea's in house decoder. I wanted accurate surround sound so I splurged and got the D80 which decodes Atmos natively for an extra hundred bucks over the D70. I watched every review I could find on YouTube (around 20 of them) and they were all positive. I was hyped for my upgrade until I started using it. Setup was easy. Initial impressions were okay but then I started to notice issues. First is dialog. This system uses three 2.5 inch speakers in the main bar. As this is a 7.1 system, only one of these is dedicated to center channel where vast majority of sound comes from when watching a TV show. All the dialog sounds like it is coming from a tin can with the bass of the voice coming from the sub beside the bed. The little speaker just can't handle the mid frequencies from the dialog so the sub tries to fill it in. Super unnatural sounding. Many other systems also rely on the sub to fill in but they have you place the sub in front of you, next to the tv. Not possible with this system as the rear speakers connect to the sub. When the sub is beside/behind you, it becomes very obvious and distracting. Yes, it has an EQ in the app, but no amount of adjusting fixes the issue. If you put it on night mode or speech mode, it does reduce the bass but then you really notice the tin can sound. Second problem is the surround configuration. The majority of streaming services still use 5.1 sound, not Atmos. When listing to any Dolby 5.1 source, the front left and right surrounds play what should be coming out of the rear surrounds, with some of the that sound be duplicated and played from the rears. You won't be hearing planes flying over your head. You will hear them flying from left to right, like a 3.1 system with odd fill sounds coming through the rears. Atmos content sounds a little better but still not as good a my non Atmos 5.1 system in the theater room. I'm not even comparing sound quality, just what speaker should be producing sound in a scene (sound stage). If you turn on Xupmix, then it just replicated the sound from the front surrounds to the rears. While it does give an effect of filling the room, the sound stage is just not accurate (you won't hear the jet flying from behind you to in front of you). Every 5.1 YouTube demo will just make you mad because when you are supposed to hear stuff behind you, it is coming from the front surrounds. You also do not have the ability to adjust the volume on individual speakers, including the sub. You only can change the volume of all 4 surrounds at once. Poor design. Third major problem. Every single time I turn on the tv, the sound stutters horribly. To fix it, I have to switch inputs on the sound bar, off of EARC to any other input and then back to EARC. My firmware is up to date. The only thing that earns the system a few stars is volume and fit and finish. It will get loud, like really loud. I have a large bedroom (25 x 25ft, 625 sqft, 14 foot high ceilings). The little sub thumps and rumbles just enough that I have no complaints. My sub in my theater room cost twice as much as this entire system so I am impressed. We normally watch TV at a volume setting of 12-18. It goes to 99. Half of my issues could be solved by a software update. Let me put the system into 5.1 mode when I'm watching 5.1 content and use all three 2.5 inch speakers for the center channel. Give me the ability to control the speaker volumes independently. Fix the sound glitch when I turn on the system. I've only had the system for a week (40+hours of actual use) and I think I am going to return it and buy something else. After 3 weeks of use, I raised this to 4 stars. I fixed the issue with the sound stuttering by plugging the HDMI from my Roku directly into the sound bar, and not using eARC. I mostly fixed the subwoofer/male vocals issue by moving the sub and putting it directly under the center of my couch. I placed it on its side with the port facing forward. This helps project the bass towards the front of the room and is less distracting than having it come from behind or beside the couch. It went on sale since I purchased it and at the new price, around 250, it's not bad. I like the remote as I have to change the settings frequently depending on the time of day and my seating position.

True Bang for your Bucks!
Setup was very easy! The tags identifying what cords go to what speakers was especially helpful. Regarding sound, the quality is beyond amazing once you setup the equalizer properly. The music/movie button is helpful, but do note that it is imperative to press the Xupmix button. If you don’t, you will not be as impressed with the sound quality. The bass is surprisingly booming at 50 throughout the house. 100 would be perfect if you’re having a movie night and have the surround sound structured properly in your room. You must use the Xupmix here as well to spread the love across the system properly! As for the sound quality regarding the Dolby Atmos, I recommend using eArc and the cord it comes with. I tried a higher end hdmi I bought from Best Buy and was forced to return it and use the factory cord due to the stark difference in Atmos compatibility. The immersive sounds for the movies we have watched and music we’ve jammed makes me say that this buy was an A+. This is the third ULTIMEA system we’ve purchased and each one has been better than the previous version. The D80 is better than the newer ones with more wattage too, so know that if you are looking for budget friendly and top dollar quality then this is your system!

O M G !! Wow!!
If I could give this thing, 100 stars I would. I was literally blown away. I previously had a Kliptch 7.1 w/ dual subs , but it got damaged in a flood. I bought this just as a temporary fix, but I’m not even going to look anywhere else. This thing has absolutely blown me away! The sound quality, the ease of set up, the durability of the product and the functionality is absolutely above and beyond! Don’t let this price for you, this system I would put up against any of the $1500-$2000 7.1 systems I have owned in the past. Absolutely amazing!
