Wonderful HP amp, maybe one of the best on erf. The big surprise is how great of a hifi stereo preamp it is, as in with large power amplifiers with speakers. A couple of reviewers said as much so I gave it a shot. After a week I ordered another one. Might be the best sounding premp I've heard, a tie with Schiit Kara and Benchmark LA4 f not better. The display is the BEST, you can read it from 20 feet. The volume is so great, you can easily do one dB stabs all day. Also great news I put it on hi gain and that's where it remains. You needn't go past 25 for good volume and 30-32 is too loud in both my 2 channel rooms the meter reads over 95 dB. Cannot believe they sell these for so little money. It sounds better and is easier to use / read than my Topping Pre90. If you want to hear the best sounding preamp, give it a shot. I hardly ever use HP, sorry I can't wax on about that subject. In my TV room I run it fed by SMSL D400ES DAC, with the fiber optic coming from my Samsung TV. In my 2 channel room it's fed by the same DAC but with SMSL CD200T while driving Buckeye Purifi 9040 monos on JBL 4349 from the XLRs while the RCA outputs are running a pair of PSA 18 subs. One of the supreme bargains in all of hifi right now, take it from a guy who's been in it since the 80s.

Solid build quality. The was a huge improvement from the built-in headphone amp in my Marantz CR-612. I'm running a WiiM mini and CD player through a Topping E70 velvet into the SMSL H400 Headphone Amplifier. I have couple of headphones and IEMs. I feel like it's the 1st time I'm really hearing what they are capable of. Through out the entire frequency range everything is well controlled nothing is bloated or peaky. Good amount of power that leaves plenty of headroom. I'm using between 45-65% of volume in the headphone and IEMs respective gain setting. Separation and sound stage are well defined and well layered no matter which headphone or IEMs I'm using. I'm enjoying this next level of sound experience.

I bought this headphone amp because of the reviews. I have purchased a number of Topping and SMSL products. If a product that costs over $500 and it is not sealed, I will not keep it. Topping seems to be aware of this importance to the buyer. I bought this SMSL product and it wasn't sealed, but I was waffling until I noticed that the box contents was a label over a label. I did not know if it meant anything, but I asked if I could return it. The answer was Yes. It was a a feeling of the store gets caught between factory policy. I ordered a second and I was discouraged for there wasn't a label. I hope you are listening because the items in this audiophile market are taken very seriously.
