I used Fire Stick products for over five years, and honestly, I finally got tired of the same issues over and over again. The performance was never great, the storage space was too limited, the processor always felt underpowered, and the overall experience slowly became more frustrating than useful. My 4K Max Fire Stick had started slowing down again after about four years of ownership, and at that point it was clear I needed to move on.What really pushed me away from Amazon was the direction they appear to be going with their operating system and how much control they want to keep over devices that customers already paid for. I do not like the idea of buying a product, owning it, and then having the manufacturer continue to lock things down or limit what I can do with it. At that point, what is the purpose of ownership if the company still controls the experience?After looking around for something better, I found the Google TV Streamer, and the product specs alone put it far ahead of the Fire Stick line. It has more storage, better performance, and everything integrates smoothly. After using it for several weeks, I cannot overstate how pleased I am with it. In fact, I am kicking myself for not ditching the Fire Stick lineup sooner.Amazon has definitely fallen behind. The combination of a weaker product, limited storage, sluggish performance, and a more restrictive user experience makes it feel like they are not really listening to consumers anymore. Say what you want about Google, but in this category, their product is clearly leaps and bounds ahead.I love the Google TV Streamer. It is faster, cleaner, smoother, and gives me a much better overall experience. Even if you want something like the Silk browser, you can sideload it or use another browser that fits your needs. Compared to the Fire Stick, I honestly do not see any real downsides. This was a major upgrade, and I wish I had made the switch sooner.

This is my first tv streaming stick, I'm not very tech savvy, and I've only been using this for a month, so please take this review with these caveats in mind.I love this little unit. According to my scant research it's more expensive compared to earlier versions of the Google Chromecast streamer and some other streamers, but for me it's not outrageously andor prohibitively expensive. It breathes new life into my old tv and makes this purchase well worth the price. My tv is from 2007 and is 1080p hd but has no wifi. This streamer does everything I want to do well (stream YouTube, Netflix, Prime, etc.) and more. The more includes.1. Relatively easy to set up. It's nice that Google includes a printed instruction guide. NB I use the word "guide" and not "instruction manual" because the actual instructions are literally 2 very small pages long, 1 with very limited instructions and the other with a diagram identifying the various buttons. But that's really all you need because the set up process is pretty user-friendly.2. Remote, cursor moving, selection, and response are super fast (unlike my old streaming bluray player). Please note that I have it wired directly into my router with an ethernet cable, which to me is much better than relying on a wifi connection. I don't know how responsive it is using wifi.3. There are 2 buttons on the remote specifically for YouTube and Netflix. This makes for quick and easy access to what for many people are the 2 most used streaming services. There is a 3rd button that is customizable, but I haven’t set it up yet.4. Zero lag when streaming, even though I have a dsl (15 mgbs) internet connection. Again, please note that this is using a wired ethernet connection between the unit and my router.5. Comes pre-installed with Google FreePlay, kind of like (very limited) cable tv for poor people because there is no monthly charge. More than a hundred free tv channels with at times admittedly out of date content, but hey it's free. And much of the content is not out of date.6. You can add apps to the unit (unlike my old streaming bluray player). Haven't tried deleting any. I don't know how many apps you can add before using up the 32gb storage, but I assume it’s a lot.7. I'm sure there are other things to like about this streamer but I don't know what they are yet.8. Nitpicks: At the present time (February 2026) this streamer is only available in the colors white and light gray. Google calls the light gray color "hazel", which is a shade of very light green, but it looks light gray to me. Now, I actually like the light gray color, but all my other audiovisual gear is black, so it would be nice if this streamer was available in black.9. Another nitpick is that the remote does not identify itself at all, no Google tv streamer labeling or Google logo, nothing. I guess Google is quite partial to absolutely bare minimum minimalist design. My other remotes are clearly labeled with their brand AND the device they control (tv, bluray, av receiver).10. Both the voice control and voice response are super annoying to me, and they’re a bit of a pain to turn off. Took some searching to find the correct setting buried in the menu. I assume that some people like voice control and response, which is why Google included them as a feature. I wish they were easier to turn off.

TLDR: Amazing and easy way to make your current TV smart or your current smart TV faster! Plug and play within 10 minutes or less.For those who sail the seven seas, this streamer allows you to use a VPN!!! If you have any of the older models this one is noticeably faster! You don't need to upgrade if you have the 2020 4k Streamer or take your Chromecast on the go with you.Recently purchased this to replace the UI of my TCL TV that has Roku built in and love it. I have used the 2020 4k streamer before this and I notice the upgrade right away in speed and reactivity. The remote has also been upgraded to be larger and more ergonomic than the original remote. It has a new coating on it which makes it feel more durable than the last remote but my 6 year old remote is still fine! This one requires its own HDMI cable to be connected unlike the previous models which don't need anything else but the power adapter plugged in which is a large downgrade in portability compared to the previous iterations of Chromecast but it is still much more efficient and cost effective than taking a gaming console or laptop with you to someone's house for Netflix. If you are planning on leaving it stationary then this wont matter anyways. Google TV is the best and also most diverse when it comes to available apps and channels. Netflix. Twitch, Instagram, or anything else and it probably has a Google TV app available to download and use with the included remote which is always appreciated.Picture 3 shows how much larger the new Chromecast is compared to the previous 4k model is. Old model is the white one in my hand. Needing its own HDMI cable also hurts portability so this the only reason I’d consider giving this a 4/5 and not a 5/5.

Works well on our TV to replace the stock-experience. Unit rocks Google TV. It is responsive and we have noticed no lag, even when switching multiple apps. The GTV built into our TV was starting to fail, so we took the plunge with this. So far, so good.We purchased the Hazel option, and the color is truly nice. Google has always done well with unit colors, and the gray undertone with teal-ish accents works well in our living room. Unit came with remote, unit, and plug. Remote offers voice dictation, but unfortunately has 2-non programable channel launchers (Netflix and Youtube) which feels cheap.Setup was easy since we have other Google home devices. Caught our wifi and took only a few minutes to set up. Has plenty of storage for apps, but no USB port for local storage options. Remote is responsive and utilized bluetooth for communcation, which allows us to hide the main unit.Time will tell if the investment will be worth $100. At $150, in this ram-a-geddon / corpo greed, we would have passed. While it does work, there are way better options once you start getting to those price brackets. No dumb AI was forced down our throats, but unit did update to utilize Gemini (love or hate, we turned it off)

I purchased the Google TV Streamer 4K, and it has been fantastic. My television's performance is much faster, and the screen resolution is excellent. With 32GB of storage, I have plenty of space for all my apps without any issues. It also features 4GB of RAM, making everything run very smoothly. Plus, it integrates seamlessly with my TV—turning on or off the streamer also controls the television. It is incredibly complete and responsive, and I highly recommend it.

So, this streamer is great at what it says it can do. It has nice hardware, plenty of RAM and storage, so that your apps will load fast all the time AND you'll have plenty of room for many, many apps. I'm impressed... but also disappointed in some lacking features.I have a device called an Amigo 7x. Very "rare" and not really that popular, BUT it's amazing. It's as fast as the Google TV Streamer at opening apps, how fast pages load, how apps can load back to right where you were after going back to the home screen, etc. I'm sure the newer Google model has some extra codecs or something that the Amigo 7x doesn't have as it is an older product than this Google TV Streamer. I am glad the the Google model has 1 Gigabit Ethernet, though. My Amigo 7x only has 100 Mbit Ethernet, BUT that's more than enough for streaming from any app EXCEPT my 25-50GB movies on Plex. But I can use Wi-Fi and it is just as responsive.Now, here's what I'm a bit disappointed in. The Amigo 7x has 2x USB ports. A USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 port. A MicroSD card slot. Then it has HDMI and Ethernet, which the Google device has, also. On the Amigo 7x, I can plug in a wired Xbox controller and it not only recognizes it, it recognizes the model of the controller. I have a BT mouse that is BT 5.2 and also has a 2.4ghz adapter. I can connect that adapter to the other USB port and use the mouse on the Amigo 7x and then switch to BT and control my PC... all from my living room (PC is in another room with an HDMI cable connected to my TV).So.. I have mixed feelings. I really gained no functionability dropping a Benjamin on this thing.4 stars because it lacks features that a much cheaper, mostly unheard of model has and doesn't do anything any faster/quicker/better that I've seen. The Amigo 7x supports Dolby Vision, HDR10, HLG, Dolby Digital Plus.. I mean, it seems to do everything the Google model does and more. So, that's why I'm a bit disappointed.It is NOT worth it at this price. That's the truth. HOWEVER, if you're considering this or something like the Amazon Fire Stick, then from what I've seen at my friend's house with his Amazon Fire Stick (some 4K version), go with the Google model. The Amazon model is SO slow. Way underpowered or lacking in RAM or something to smoothly operate.If you happen to have an Amigo 7x, no need to go to the Google model. I do need to test how Steam Link works and GeForce now on each. I assume the Google model does handle those things better, so if THAT is something you must have, then upgrade to the Google TV Streamer.Haven't had any issues out of it, though.
