Review "DARR was an important film for everyone associated with it. Most of all it was important for Yash Raj Films who had tasted only moderate success with Lamhe and Juhi Chawla, who was looking for perfect ending to the year 1993 so as to come up as Number 1 in the film industry. Shah Rukh had already had a monster hit in baazigar and was hot as sun, Juhi was resplendent and challenging the queens of Bollywood, Sridevi and Madhuri and more than that we had a Yash Raj Banner. The song Jaadu Teri Nazar had become a rage and add the ever dependable Sunny Deol who was coming back from critical appreciation from Damini and you had a lethal combo lined up. The movie moves at good pace usually with perhaps a little too many incidents in the second half. Those could have been done away with. And like the movies of early 90 s it does not have the polished look that yash Raj films were to master with DTPH. Cinematography is quite ordinary at places and the music is pretty ordinary save a couple of songs. The direction is good most of the time but it does not have the deft touches which made Lamhe a classic. Performance wise it is perhaps SRK s more original performance, rest all the films are a copy of this performance with an addition here and a deletion there. KKK Kiran is so much like KKK Kaurwaki. It is definite benchmark for the performances of SRK. But still it would have been nice if he had just curbed his instincts a little and given a controlled performance. Sunny is as plastic as u get and Juhi has pretty much nothing to do but look pretty. Anupam Kher is irritating to say the least. Rest of the cast r there to just compete is a wildlife park. Overall the high that SRK and Juhi were in 1993 got the film a fantastic initial and also miffed more feathers like Sunny who claimed to have been sidelined completely in the film. Yash Raj banner was established and though the movie did not win any major awards it established the Yash Raj banner and gave it the direction to go to in 1990 s." --platform47.com

My Greatest Obsession!
Darr(Fear)is all about Obsession. It is all about Rahul's (Shahrukh Khan) obsession for a young woman, Kiran (Juhi Chawla)that he first met at college but was to shy to approach. Kiran is serenaded by Rahul, who she never actually sees, and thinks it is her boyfriend Sunil(Sunny Deol). However when confronted by Sunil, she discovers her mistake and is confused over her feelings. Returning home one night she is confronted by a stranger who shines a torch in her face and utters the words " I love you, K-K-K-Kiran". She doesn't see his face, but later that evening she receives a telephone call repeating the same words. We find out that Rahul's obsession has turned him in to a crazed stalker who has imaginary conversations with his mother who has been dead for twenty years. In true 'Hitchcock' style, the movie draws us in with it's suspense. The echoing telephone in an empty room, the threatening phone-calls at dead of night saying that he will kill Kiran's lover.After police investigations and red-herrings on the behalf of Rahul, Sunil and Kiran decide to marry and go on honeymoon where they receive the news that the stalker has hanged himself. But this isn't the end of their problems, as a crazed/obsessed but very cool Rahul follows them and attempts to kill Sunil in order to get Kiran to wed him.This is the second film with Shahrukh in a 'Negative Role', but he plays it to perfection!If it was just anybody acting the part, or if the stalker was unatractive or disfigured in some way, we would all be shouting for his demise. However, SRK plays the part so wonderfully, that you warm to his character and feel sorry for him. Not surprising that SRK got an award for 'Best Villian'Watch this film if you love suspense 'Alfred Hitchcock' style.Watch this film for BRILLIANT actingWatch this film because SRK is 'The Best'Just buy the film! You won't regret it.....I've watched it 3 times already!

Incredible even after 25 years.
What I love most about the film is its pace. 30 mins in and so much is happening and continues to happen. It' thrilling and highly entertaining. Amazing soundtrack by Shiv-Hari (their last album), very beautifully cinematography by Manmohan Singh who won a Filmfare Award for it, and top performances by SRK, Juhi and Sunny.

Tame psycho romance doesn't quite come together, but SRK is still good
'Silly' psychological thriller as SRK plays a kind of likeable but (extreme) OCD over Kiran. Classic Bollywood makes all characters kind of likeable but the SRK character takes it way too far. In part, its believable but not sure if the dark bits fit well with the light bits, its more like a 'play' than a movie at times. I enjoyed that it was super-predicable, ridiculous and the classic romantic style. Might have been better if we saw the origin of SRK character's insanity.

Awesome!
Love this movie! brings back good old memories! Yash chopra and sharukh doing their magic. compared to rubbish they create these days. Jab tak hai jaan was rubbish! Juhi chawla is beautiful and a brilliant actor.

i am very glad i got this movie on dvd, i can watch this movie with subtitles, that i can understand what this movie is talking in hindi

Disappointing!! Unless you really love songs, that add zero to the narrative, don't bother watching.
Definitely seen better psychological thrillers.The movie can't seem to make up it's mind. Is it a musical? Or a thriller?Either way the umpteen songs thrown in are irrelevant, and pointless! One minute the heroine is scared witless, next she's cavorting around singing and dancing. Seriously? She's petrified. Fickle, more like. With very little between her eardrums, where her brain should reside. She's either sniveling or gesturing come hither.There's only one song essential for the story. And that's at the start. It expresses Rahul' state of mind. He's not so much in love as obsessed. The heroine is not all that likable. Which he would soon discover, if he had bothered to get to know her. Frankly she is tedious.At the end when she tells her husband "kill him!!". Rahul can't believe what he's hearing. Distraction at the wrong moment, spells his death.Is Rahul' character fleshed out? No. He's mentally unhinged, who talks on the phone to his dead mother. According to his father keeps himself to himself. But at the opportune moment up pops an old college friend who is conveniently dying. Who can take the rap, for stalking the heroine, so his life can amount to something. Some achievement. Stalking the empty headed heroine.The heroine' fiancee Sunil is introduced to the viewer as "action hero" rescuing a young girl from her kidnappers at sea. Talk about overkill. The blood spilled on board looks more like red paint or nail varnish. The scene is so exaggerated as to be naff. So many men. What are they conducting a coup? Most of them appear superfluous to requirement, just hanging around for the sake of beefing up the numbers.Sunil spends most of the movie drooling over the heroine. However on honeymoon, whilst supposedly taking his brides photo, he is too busy gawking at several women in swimming suits!!!! Next in the hotel he's stuffing his gob with popcorn, whilst watching a striptease on TV. The look on his face is priceless. Wife? What wife?Fabulous definition/ depiction of an enamored husband!The heroine is least likable on honeymoon interrogating Rahul. What business is it of hers who he liked at college. She acts like a interfering busybody.The ending is abysmally predictable. Unhinged Rahul "knives" Sunil leaving him for dead. But, oh whoopie. Action hero Sunil saves the useless empty headed heroine, from Rahul.YAWN. The end.
