Excellent emulator handheld -- my personal go-to!
Anbernic has a ton of these handheld emulator devices on the market now. Some people get annoyed by this, but I would always rather have more options than fewer, and the 40XXV is a home-run in my book. It's rocking the same H700 Allwinner CPU you find in all of their XX devices, which will play every system from Atari all the way up through Dreamcast/PSP, though not the entire library of those systems. You probably won't want to use this for PSP due to the screen's aspect ratio, but for DC and below it's outstanding (I hear some heavy DC games don't run smoothly on this thing, but every DC game I've tried has worked fine). The controls are fantastic -- and this is coming from someone who has about a dozen of these kinds of devices from different companies. The D-pad is sublime -- my favorite of them all -- and the face buttons feel great to use. Even the angling of the triggers are great.A lot of people whine about this thing having a single joystick. Personally I think it's awesome because 1) I'm not a huge fan of FPSes anyway, which is the main use for a second stick, and 2) the systems this plays either use 1 joystick (MAME, N64), or no joystick at all. Even PS1 rarely used the sticks. Yes, the out-of-box (OOB) stick has the famous Anbernic cardinal snapping issue, but installing the latest build of MuOS or Knulli eliminates this problem. I can understand someone saying that the OOB experience should be better for something that costs money, but if you're seriously into this hobby at all you know that custom firmware (CFW) is the name of the game... it is what it is.The screen is a smidge under 4", which is big, bright, and great for anything you want to run on it. 4:3, 3:2, 8:7, even vertical arcade, all run great once you tinker with Retroarch a little. Sound is loud as heck at first and the rocker appears to need individual presses to raise/lower the volume (i.e., press and hold only registers one press, at least on mine), but that's a minor gripe. Not sure if that's the device or MuOS, which is the CFW I use on it.Like most of these devices, some tinkerage is required to get a great experience and a lot of times the "value" judgments for these things are based on how close you can force it to get to that "perfect" (for the individual user) experience you're after. For me, the chunky vertical form factor, big bright screen, single stick, amazing buttons, ability to run some of the best CFWs out there, and nice blue color get it done. Half the reason you get these things is to mess around under the hood to see what you can make it do, and this one is close to perfect for me.

Great device so much fun
Not much to say that you wouldnt already have watched in a youtube review. Pretty much perfect device other than a mediocre stick. Realistically as long as u are only playing arcade up to PS1 the stick is great, but dreamcast and n64 its not very good. I love it for the systems im playing, overall im 100% happy, im honestly glad the stick is mediocre so i dont feel the need to jam a bunch of dreamcast and n64 games on here that suck on a tiny screen anyways. Loving playing actual retro games on here. The black one is slick, feels really good in the hands. Ive had 0 issues with controls or screen or anything like that. Didnt even try the stock OS, went straight for knulli and its been flawless. Super happy, love the larger screen. Will buy a different form factor device from ambernic later if i want more systems like dreamcast, gamecube, ps2, etc. they have proven to me that they make pretty solid stuff for the price, which you really cant overlook here. This does not deserve to be as good as it is for the price, so i have no complaints. If i paid 2x or 3x as much id have some things to address, but not at this price at all, you will be hard pressed to find something better.

Battery degrades extremely fast, will not charge anymore! Buyer Beware
Purchased 2 of these. They worked well for the first couple of months, now they won’t charge. I can leave them plugged in for hours and still show 0%. What a waste, unfortunately I’m over the return window. Buyer beware!!!

Just Buy It! You’ll Love It!
I bought this so that I could primarily play Mario Bros and GTA Vice City. Surprisingly GTA Vice City was already loaded on the console. I’ve also added Mario Bros, some Call of Duty titles, Modern Warfare, and a few others. The screen is nice, HD and clear. You can change the graphics to fit your needs. The battery life is TOP TIER, lasts for hours. There is absolutely no lag. I expected some, but have found none on the games I’ve played. My kid and I spend hours on this thing. Def worth the money. Going to buy another one soon.I’m a late 80s millennial and it fills me with so much joy to see my kid enjoying my childhood games just as much as I did, if not more. Everything is on the internet today, which is scary bc nothing is simple or discreet. This little thing brings back the simplicity and physical safety of playing video games. You can enable WiFi, but there’s really no need. You have to add the games from your PC, but you will need a mini SD adapter or a memory card reader to do so. It’s really easy. The buttons may be in different places for certain games, but once you learn them for the game you’re playing it’s not a problem. The stick controller is great for games like GTA, Modern Warfare, COD, 007, and California Speed (my N64 guilty pleasure lol). You’ll waste hours, trust me.My kid tossed that pretty pricy PlayStation aside for this $75 console. Hasn’t touched it in two weeks. I can’t even play unless she’s in bed bc she’ll ask and I can’t say no. I just play when she’s busy with something else or asleep. I woke up @ 2 am to find her wide awake playing Super Mario World (SNES). We both love this little console. So glad I bought it!!

It's good, but with caveats.
The product description says 64GB card but it only came with a cheap no-name 32GB card that is of questionable quality. Replaced it with a quality Sandisk card at extra cost. There there virtually no games in the card for the major consoles. You'll have to find ROMS yourself. Also dropped the default OS and put Knulli in the new card and it works without any noticeable issues. The 4 inch screen is not as large as I had hoped it would be. Some games are designed for a TV and can be pretty difficult to play them on a 4 inch screen. Although I really think this is a quality built gaming machine for the price, I might have gotten a bigger screen if I had known it would be so hard to play on a 4 incher.

Good value for nostalgic game play
Worked great. Come with only a few generic games. Be prepared to load your own ROM library. Plenty of good YouTube videos. It’s a nostalgia machine for sure. I’ve loaded up all my favorite childhood games, the ones I wanted but never got and the classics for each console.Remember to fully power down the unit and the battery life is great. If left in sleep it dies quickly.Screen is much larger than originals which is handy for my 40yr old eyes. Unit size is portable but not what I would call pocketable. The sound quality is a little rough, but headphones makes up for it.Overall I would say it’s a great system for adults and a good value.

Disappointed
I bought this back in March, and personally I love this device. But after consistent I’ve noticed that the joystick tends to drift. It does make playing certain games harder. Overall I think it lowers the functionality of it.

This is a '90s 2000s kids ideal game boy like experience!
This thing is amazing! I have been on a nostalgic trip for the past week and couldn't bring myself to try and hunt for a game boy color and a handful of game boy games. I came across this in a review on YouTube, took a chance and bought it. This has been the best purchase I have made in a long while. It took some time to figure out how to put my ROM games in this SD card but it was as easy as just dragging the games to their respective folders. There was no need to figure out how to download the emulators onto the SD card. It automatically picked the emulators and I started to play the games. Even though I bought this with the intention of playing game boy color and game boy advance pokémon games. This thing allows me to potentially play PSP games, PlayStation 1 games and so much more. I can't wait for Christmas to roll around and for me to hand this out to my brothers as a Christmas present. If you're looking for a game boy-like device and already have ROM games, this is the device for you.
