Saved my betas life. He was almost dead from new tank syndrome. I did exactly what AI told me to do and within 14 days his bald spot was filled back in with scales. And he was swimming around like normal. Instead of just laying on plants and resting spots all day. I was so upset. As a new beta owner. He is 2. I upgraded him to a 10 gallon. Nowhere did it say keep the old filter along with the new for atleast 2 weeks to get that beneficial bacteria. So I didn’t know. I thought I was doing something good and almost killed him. This is critical: if you use a UV sterilizer, turn it off while using Stability. Stability is a great product and the price is good, too. I've used it to jump start multiple aquariums with ease. I agree with the other reviewer who notes that it does an excellent job with ammonia but isn't quite as potent for dealing with nitrite spikes (hint: nitrite can be super-toxic). The good news is, it does a reasonable job with nitrite and you can pair your dosage with Seachem Prime for additional nitrite detoxification if necessary. Check your nitrite regularly (1-2x daily) while your water is cycling and add Prime with your Stability as necessary. The Prime label claims that up to 5x its normal dosage can be used to detoxify nitrite in an emergency. It works on nitrate, too, but that's not usually a problem for most species. Prime is also a great water conditioner for removing chlorine or chloramine. Recent example (perhaps this will help guide someone new): we have two adult Red Eared Slider turtles in a 75 gallon aquarium. Turtles create a *lot* of waste, much more so than fish. We recently had an issue where most or all of the beneficial bacteria was destroyed (accidentally), and the entire tank began cycling. Basically, it was like starting a new aquarium. We first cleaned out any excess waste in the aquarium, anything that hadn't already been captured by our canister filter. Then we soaked our bio media (Seachem Matrix) in a bucket filled with about 1/2 gallon of tank water and Stability, for a little less than one hour. The chlorine/chloramine in tap water will kill bacteria, so be sure to use water that's already been treated, e.g. aquarium water treated with Seachem Prime. After soaking, we placed the bio media back into our canister filter and performed a partial water change, adding Stability with the fresh water. We then continued to add Stability daily for 7 days, followed by another partial water change. Guess what? Zero ammonia. As messy as two adult turtles eat and with all the waste they make, the nitrite only spiked around 0.25ppm for a couple of days. Short-term this wouldn't hurt our turtles, but could harm fish. Regardless, twice we simply added a double dose of Prime to compensate. In aquariums with lesser load (waste), nitrite may not even be a problem. A good (read: appropriately large) canister filter is key. Also, don't assume you'll be done after 7 days. Keep checking your pH, ammonia, and nitrite until they consistently read zero. We usually don't check nitrate but depending on your species, you may want to research how much nitrate is allowable and check that also. All this to say, Seachem Stability does the job well, even under load. Pair it with Seachem Prime if you are concerned about small nitrite spikes or have exotic species needing extra care. One last thing: one 250mL bottle is good for about 7-days dosage for a 75 gallon aquarium filled to 50-55 gallons, give or take a little. It's also available in other sizes, of course.

I'm new to the hobby. I had recused a betta with fin rot from Petco. He lived in a 1/2 gallon hospital tank while I proceeded to research everything there was to know about aquariums. I also had time to Amazon Prime his entire aquarium. Thanks to Seachem, my extensive research (the nitrogen cycle is an important thing to study), and Amazon Prime...I now have a fully cycled super healthy aquarium! This stuff worked great. I have a betta. They have a small bioload. So it took longer to establish my cycle....19 days. If I would of had time I would of done an ammonia fishless cycle prior to purchasing the fish. But I rescued him. And I didn't have that option. Thanks to Seachem Prime he was 100% safe throughout the entire cycle. Just follow the directions. Use Seachem Prime every 48 hours. And test your water to monitor your progress! Honestly it was a ton of fun for me to watch my progress. I fell in love with the hobby more and more every single day. I'm so glad I found this hobby! I have the Fluval Spec 5 Gallon. And I did over dose the Stability by a few milliliters during the first week. Warning: This worked but also caused a major biofilm. It freaked me out. You will cloud a little bit at first. And develop a biofilm. You probably wont develop as sever of a biofilm if you have good surface movement. Since I have a betta, who prefers calm waters, I had to baffle the outflow nozzle to slow it down. This slowed surface movement combined with the extra dosage of Stability created the biofilm. However, as soon as your filter starts growing bacteria that film starts just disappearing on its own. Took about a week to fully clear. It was about 10 days before the water really cleared up and the film was gone. My cycle took 19 days. Betta's have a small bioload. This was a major contributor to the extended duration of my cycle....if I had a higher bioload it wouldn't of taken 19 days. If I had done a fishless cycle with ammonia it would of been super quick. About 12 days into the cycle I added a mystery snail. They have huge bioloads compared to bettas. So of course I dosed stability for 3 days. To grow additional bacteria in my biofilter. This also extended my cycle. Everything happened just as I expected it to. And I am a newbie. 100% newbie. Now that I am cycled I will continue to add the recommended dose during weekly water changes. I don’t think this would be necessary if you maintain the health of the aquarium. But it won’t hurt and is a good idea. I will also add this for a few days if I add any new inhabitants to compensate quicker for the increased bioload. Seachem is an amazing company. Their products are the clear favorite among hobbyists. And their customer service is amazing!!! Just head over to their site and send them an email. Or sign up for their forums. Or just go to google and search...chances are there is a fish forum somewhere with a user asking about the same thing you're wanting to know. This product is in spore form. It does not need refrigeration. Nor do you have to worry about high temps during shipping. Obviously you don't want it to be subjected to the elements more than it needs to be. But I know some brands are notorious for 'going bad' in the shipping process. RESEARCH! Buy this. And have a great time with your aquarium!! This is a great product. Just do not forget to test your water. Most use the API Master kits.

If you are a fishkeeper of any time youve likely learned the nitrogen cycle. The health of your fish and plants depend upon it. Please research the niteogen cycle before you attempt to keep aquariums if tou want your fish to remain as healthy as possible. You need certain types of bacteria growth to convert harmful chemical wastes created by your fish and feedings. Till your filters and surfaces in your tank develop those bacteria colonies, you cant keep many fish as their own waste is poisonous to them and others. In a new tank without this bacteria, it can take several weeks to develop well enough to fully stock your tank without your fish dying. Stability is loaded with the types of beneficial bacteria your filters and surfaces need to season your tank and begin adding fish. With doses of stability in your filter medium and water, you dont have to wait weeks for the water to grow these bacteria. The stability product kick starts new tanks or refreshes older ones that may have had the bacteria depleted by medications or overcleaning. Stability doesnt improve how many of given sizes and types of fish you can keep. You still need to stick to not overstocking your tank. However, youll be able to get started quicker with Stability. The bottles Ive got from Amazon havent set around warehouses for months as they sometimesvhave at pet shops. Only buy what youll use within a month or so to be sure the bacteria you receive are alive and well. Dont heavily overdose the recomendations. Ive used Stability on my tanks for years to start new ones up and to help refresh bacteria colonies in tanks I jad medicated or completely cleaned out. Its always worked for me to add several fish within a day or two of tank setup. Perhaps a bit expensive but works great.

With no shortage of Biological water treatments available - I've never really relied on them.The reason being is there's really no true shortcut to a fully cycled aquarium - you have to wait and let nature take it's course. In the past I've tried products like Cycle by Nutrafin and Easy start by Tetra but in most cases these products were used in setting up fast quarantine and hospital tanks. Most of these products -want you to use them continuously which doesn't make sense to me.If you have a fully cycled tank why would keep adding new strains of bacteria to already established water? Well, I think because some manufacturers want you too keep coming back for more and the price of admission isn't cheap. Cycle at around $22 for 16 ounces encourages you to dose your tank with 5 ml for every ten gallons once a week - and 10 ml for every ten gallons during water changes. Nonsense. This brings me to "Stability" by Seachem (one of my favorite companies)But being partial to them and their product line doesn't mean I don't question or research as best I can when trying something new.That said, I'm nursing a new 55, a 40 and 125. I had a bottle of Stability which I had bought on a what the heck basis - the 55 has fish in it, I seeded the filter but still had serious ammonia spikes. Seachem claims that the bacteria used in competitive products are inherently unstable. And for the bacteria to survive it must live in the exact temperature, PH and other water parameters in which it was raised and colonized.This makes perfect sense.When you add this bacteria to your aquarium, it survives for a brief while - but then crashes and dies. Stability on the other hand, has bacteria that can survive in almost any kind of water - fresh and salt and virtually any type of water conditions.Seachem states the strain took a decade to develop. What sets it further apart from the competition is that it contains nitrifying and denitrifying bacteria which isn't the case for any other product of it's kind.Seachem also states - other bacterial supplements form toxic hydrogen sulfide - something that can never happen with Stability. With this said, I've dosed the 55 and 40 according to the directions which are 5 ml per 10 gallons on the first dose and a follow up of 5 ml per 20 gallons for 7 days.What I've noticed - and noticed quickly, is that my water is clearly more stabilized. Currently I show no ammonia on the API test or Seachem Ammonia Alert meter - it's been five days since the last dose and all of my readings are in the safe zone. I don't use it for water changes - but having experienced the problems of adding fish to a non or partially cycled tank, I have not so fond memories of daily 50% -80% water changes for weeks..ugh.Where Stability shines is in helping you protect your fish and stabilize the water, especially in keeping the primary fish killer - ammonia in check.So for specific applications Stability is an excellent product. It's harmless to fish and appears to deliver on it's promise. But as a weekly or even monthly addition to established tank maintenance I wouldn't suggest it. To their Credit, Seachem says you can use it as an on going additive - but unlike other products they don't make it sound like you have to.

Great product we set up a new fish tank and my kid was so eager to put fish in it. We had to find a alternative and this worked out great. Fish going strong and healthy at two months. I like to add some to water changes just for the peace of mind. Running low, ordering big bottle now!

Seachem Stability is one product that belongs in every aquarium keepers home. It’s great for add when you’re strarting up a new tank, as it adds beneficial bacteria. I also use it when I do a cleaning, to be sure I haven’t upset the balance of bacteria, to help keep it stable. This is an awesome product and I always keep a bottle of it on hand
