Great Purchase - ARLO Never disappoints!
Bought this as a refurb to use outdoors on my deck. Was apprehensive about buying a refurb, even with all Amazon's warantees. It's perfect! Right out of the box, fully charged, ready to go. Sync'd perfectly to my network and into my Arlo environment. Has a great pic, motion detection is awesome! I haven't checked night vision yet, but I have high expectations. For anyone about to venture into home video security devices with endless functionality and adaptability, with unlimited expansion opportunity ... you truly do not need to look past ARLO!

Excellent Cameras
Easy to setup and clear recordings. Holds charge and the speaker works great too dogs can hear everything I say :) I would probably get solar next time, but it easy to take them off and charge. Arlo's plans are reasonable and you can switch them anytime. Have recommended to friends and family.

Battery cannot be removed to charge. Better get a solar charger too. Updated review and it's worse.
I've had the Arlo Pro 2 security cameras for several years. I thought I'd upgrade to a newer generation of cameras, thinking there must be some improvement in the electronics by now. Unfortunately, I don't think this Essential Security Camera was an improvement. Instead, I think overall it's a step backward from my old cameras. First let's start with the image. Though it's advertised as 1080p HD, I really can't tell much difference between this and my old Arlos. So there's no appreciable gain in image quality even though the electronics is much newer. And there's still a lag between when something is moving in front of the camera and when you can see it on the app. The lag can be quite long, like 10 seconds or more depending on your Wifi connection. So you can't use this camera to monitor an active situation happening because it's way behind real life movements. Again no improvement from the old model. Now let's start with the bad things about this camera. Let's start with the mount. The old mounts on my Pro 2 cameras allow the camera to be placed perpendicular to the mount. Not so with the Essential cameras. The mount only allows a few degrees of turn from a straight on position. This really inhibited where I could mount the camera, and I could not it put in the same locations as my old cameras. Then there's the issue of the nonremoveable battery. The old Pro 2 had a removeable battery so that one can remove it to charge up while a freshly charged batter is popped in. This can be annoying if you don't like grabbing a ladder to go up and replace the battery. I bought solar chargers for them so I didn't have to replace the batteries as much. But for the Essential Security camera, the WHOLE camera has to be TAKEN DOWN to charge the battery. The mount design allows you to slide the camera off so it can be taken in to charge. But that means you have to be without a camera while it's charging and you have to climb a ladder multiple times. I also bought solar chargers for this new camera. If you don't, be prepared to go up to the camera to remove it to charge every few weeks. I can see this as being a deal breaker. On the old camera, you can use the Arlo app to turn the image 180 degrees. This is helpful because the camera lens is near the top of the camera. In some locations, I had to mount the camera upside down to clear some low lying obstruction. Then I just use the app to turn the image upright. I didn't see any mention of this in the product description, but the Essential Security camera does not have this feature. I don't know why they couldn't do it since it's just a software manipulation. Again this prevented me from using the camera in the same locations as my old ones. So my low ratings is because I got no new real improvement in my security cameras. Instead I feel like the features are worse compared to the old design. Update: Okay this camera is much worse than I thought so I downgraded to one star. The fatal flaw is that you are required to purchase Arlo's ridiculously priced "premium" plan for $24.99 per month. You get 60 days of free use. That conveniently happens to be the return window. Once the return window is over, the Arlo app says the camera requires the premium plan to be functional. That means even though the camera is linked to my base station which has a thumb drive attached, nothing is getting saved to the drive. The camera now only works in live mode. So if you want to see anything that happened even one minute ago you're out of luck. I could buy the one camera plan, but who has only one security camera around their house? The premium plan also includes live monitoring. I'm not sure I want some stranger at Arlo, or whoever they subcontracted, watching my house all the time, if they're really even watching. Or having them call the police to my house without my knowledge. That's a feature that I didn't ask for or want to pay for. I just want the camera to record what's going on outside my house. And you can guarantee that premium plan will go up in price eventually. Because of this corporate greed, I am taking down the Essential and reattaching my Pro 2 cameras which let me record the videos without paying for a plan. Total rip off and waste of money.

Best security camera around
I’ve had these cameras for a couple years and never had an issue with them! Great picture quality, fast charge, stays charged for over a month still! Won’t get anything different!

Still good but "improved" app and controls are complicated, recording requires paid subscription
I have some Arlos that I got when they first came out. They are simple and reliable and, naturally, will soon stop working because of the announced end-of-life. Again as expected, the new version is more complicated, performs slowed, and has a number of features that are really not helpful. Plus subscriptions now cost more. These cameras are still very good but I wish the simple, excellent, non-PII-exposing Arlo that was part of Netgear would come back. 4 stars because these cameras work well, one star off because of dubious improvements, lack of support for older gear, and more expensive subscriptions.

Arlo Camera 2nd Generation is Great
Fast delivery, product stated it was battery operated, well it is rechargeable with usb cord provided which was a great bonus. Once it was added to my Wi-Fi setup was a breeze adding it to my Arlo app. It has two mounting options, it has a mount bracket that I didn’t like, but it has a threaded hole which screwed onto my previous Arlo camera mount. Very pleased with purchase. Been using Arlo for my property for many years.

No battery replacement available
These models of Arlo cameras appear to function properly but they don’t have a replaceable battery that a customer can replace. Arlo does not even replace or sell these batteries. When battery goes bad you trash the whole camera, this is why the low rating.
