Walt Disney's Mickey Mouse Color Sundays Gift Box Set (Vols)

This is the first Disney boxed set I have purchased. I am not someone who knows all of the details of Mickey Mouse, I just have fond memories of watching the cartoon years ago and of seeing the comic strip now and then so I thought it would be fun to have at least one of these sets. I was not disappointed at all with the quality of these books. What I was disappointed with is that corners of the slipcover were bent. I reported this to Amazon in my packaging feedback and it wasn't enough for me to want to wait for a replacement so I kept it. I just received another box set today though, Peanuts, which is also a Fantagraphics product, and the slipcover is also damaged (more than the Disney set). So now I'm wondering if they are this way when Amazon receives them or if it's a problem in the shipment packaging by Amazon's warehouse. I think these collectible gifts sets should be wrapped in bubble wrap and shipped in a box that is just big enough so that they don't get banged around. Obviously this is a handling issue, and doesn't take away from the product itself but I wanted others to be aware and make sure that you let Amazon know if yours arrives banged up. Since I'm not a "collector" and purchased this and the Peanuts set just for fun, it's not worth waiting for a replacement and having to go to the post office or UPS to return the other even though Amazon makes returns very easy. So I am keeping them both, but someone who is buying these as a collector may want to make sure they get one that is in truly new condition. Either way, I think anyone who has an affinity for "the mouse" will love holding and reading these fun books. Kudos to Fantagraphics for a nice presentation of a fun product.

This collection is an absolute delight. Outstanding reproduction of the Sunday Mickey Mouse by the great Gottfredson. And at slightly under 30 bucks for over 500 pages in color it's definitely a steal. Now if only some smart publisher would collect the stories of the other great Mickey Mouse artist: Paul Murry, who with Carl Fallberg (writer) created those fantastic serials in the 1950's and early 1960's. Just think: gems such as "The Last Resort", "The Marvelous Magnet", "The Idol of Moaning Island", "The Threat of the Stone-Eaters", "Pineapple Poachers etc. collected with the same care and attention to detail that Fantagraphics put in the Gottfredson volumes under review! I'm sure there's a market for them.

It's a beautiful set and a bargain at this price. The color is outstanding. However, they are Sunday strips and there are not as many continuities here as in the collections of dailies. These two volumes may be more appealing to teenagers and young adults who love these Disney characters than to younger children. Lots of annotations and commentary. This mouse is not the sanitised mouse of today. He's far more interesting.

Gottdriedson is top notch. Like his counterpart, Carl Barks, Floyd never disappoints. Unlike all of the zillions of capped crusaders, Mickey Mouse is Mr. Everybody with a zest for adventure and madcap comedy. Always plausible, Gottfriedsons Mickey is nothing like the bland, homey Mickey as he has been pictured over the past decade or so. You'll love this Mickey and wuill be wanting more. Highly recommended.

My son just loves these comics. They are a fantastic addition to any Disney lovers collection and if your kid love comics and Disney than you cannot go wrong. I also have the next box set with Vol 3 & 4 as well as the Donald Duck Christmas Gift Box Set. Awesome

This is a beautiful slip-cased two-volume gift-set of the Mickey Mouse Sunday pages from 1932 to 1938. The reproduction is crisp and the colors of the Sunday pages are vibrant. My only complaint about the production values is that the hard cover boards tend to warp slightly if the books are out of the slipcase for very long. The artwork is stunning throughout the books, However, Floyd Gottfredson mainly did one-off gags on his Sunday pages, which are not as interesting as the long continuities which he did for his daily Mickey Mouse strip. When he does do a Sunday continuity it is always a pretty good story and the visuals are amazing when seen in full color. This is overall a wonderfully produced set of books and would make a terrific gift for young adults who love the Disney characters. It is not, however, a true children's book. Most young kids would not appreciate the comic strip format of storytelling. But adults who love a good adventure story or beautiful artwork will appreciate this gift-set.

These hard cover editions ere made of great quality paper and binding. Although I have always loved Disney comics, some of these early storides I have never seen in print. I hope the publisher decides to do a series on all the Paul Murry seriels in the future.

Wonderful box. The golden coronation of Floyd Gottafredson Collection by Fantagraphics. A dream of joy and good memories. Mickey by Gottafredson completed. The same astonishing quality of the whole B&W collection of 12 volumes now with the Sunday colorful strips.

Che dire? Si tratta di un progetto editoriale tra i migliori nell'ambito del fumetto: la ristampa ragionata e integrale di tutto il topolino di Floyd Gottfredson. L'opera raccoglierà i primi 25 anni delle strisce giornaliere di Topolino. Ogni volume contiene due anni di strisce quindi l'intera opera dovrebbe articolarsi su un dozzina di volumi Questo cofanetto racchiude i volumi 5-6 (Color 1 e Color 2) Notare che esiste una versione italiana ( Topolino nella valle infernale ) che è però molto in ritardo con la publicazione. Altamente consigliato.

Excellente reproduction et conservation des traits et couleurs d'origines ! Fantagraphics fait un excellente travail à tous les niveaux pour cette collection de Flyod Gottfredson. Reprenant tous les strips du dimanche, ce seul coffret en couleur pour le moment est extraordinaire !

Gut kann ich mich an einen Austauschstudenten erinnern, der Deutsch mit Hilfe von Comics erlernte. Er meinte, daß durch die Komprimierung des gesagten in wenigen Sätzen, wie auch eben umgangssprachlich, die Anforderungen an den Inhalt größer wären. Wie auch immer. Wer Englisch kann, sollte sich diesen Schuber mit den zwei gebundenen Büchern kaufen. Die Qualität des Papiers und des Druckes sind fast schon zu gut, die Sprache original (es wurden auch keine Verbesserungen im Sinne von political correctness vorgenommen. Finde ich gut, denn es ist nicht nur Comic, sondern auch Zeuge seiner Zeit), und die Geschichten zeitlos. Liebeskummer, lebhafte Kinder, ein nerviger Freund, Freundschaften. Für einen deutschsprachigen Leser unterhaltsamer und lehhreicher Lesestoff. Was will man mehr? Empfehlung eines 1965 geborenen, einer Generation, als das noch als Schundheftchen bezeichnet wurde.

No puedo poner pegas. Cueste lo que cueste, este cofre es una maravilla. Tener una colección alternativa con las tiras de prensa dominicales y a color del maestro Floyd, es una gozada. La edición es muy buena.
