I want to install a letter box on my door, would this be perfect tool to use?

Although I will be using this tool for tree branches etc I am sure that it would be capable of cutting out a letter box but practice on a piece of waste wood first, mark your pattern clearly use some pilot holes and take your time. Any rough bits can be tidied up with a sharp chisel afterwards. Good luck

can you cut on the tip of the bar as I want to use this for carving

I have cut using the tip of the blade, typically when starting a cut away from the edge of a piece.

So this is the better saw between this and universal model
