How does it read the temperature at the bottom of the fish pond?

Hello.....the water tube on the thermometer reads the temperature....is I guess you can drop it down to the bottom of the pond to get a reading....personally I just dip and take a reading from just under the surface.

Does anyone know how to clean this thermometer? Is there a trick to removing the plastic covering the reading thermometer.

Although the casing does get dirty I give this a careful clean with warm soapy water ,I feel if I tried to take it apart it could break or not fit back properly, so I am sorry I can't help.
