Cretacolor Fine Art Pastel Pencil Set, Set of 72, Multi

I have several brands of pastel pencils and watched a tutorial that suggested this brand. They are softer than I expected and not chalky at all. The quality is on par with other artist quality pastel pencils. They blend easily and can be sharpened with a craft knife. The colors include several greys both warm and cool and a nice variety of shades that are not in my other sets which was a big plus for me plus you also get 2 different white pencils. They work well with other brands of pastel pencils both hard and soft and also with soft pastels in the stick form. Each pencil has the name printed on it which is helpful. I used them on sanded pastel paper and had no problems with dust.

I was wary of these seeing some mixed reviews, but took the leap. Wow is all I have to say. I have 12+ years pastel experience as a professional artist, where have these been all my life! Exceptional lay down, blending ability AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, you can sharpen these!! I use an electric sharpener carefully and have had zero breakage in the month I’ve had them (and I’ve used them hard). The color selection is maybe the best of all the larger pastel sets besides maybe the Derwent. There are colors in this set I do not have from any of the big name pastels. I would say that these are a bit harder than the big name brands, but still layer excellently over other pastels (and I have used the Cretacolor with all the big name pastels at this point with great results). Additionally, Amazon’s shipping was flawless and the pencils arrived in pristine condition. I was a bit worried about damage but absolutely zero occurred and the set was well packed. If you’re a professional artist, especially one doing some smaller size pastel work; these are a must purchase for their detail capability and color selection.

I’m starting to use pastel pencils and wanted to try these. The pencils are nice and I’m sure I will enjoy them. The packaging is pretty flimsy. The tin arrived a little dented, pastel dust was on most of the pencils and a couple of broken tips. The tin is pretty thin as compared to most other pencil set tins that I have. There are two trays inside, paper under the top one to make it easier to pull out but the tray is so thin it almost bends in half no matter how gently I pull.

I Love Creatacolor pencils! My first ones were the monolith woodless and now this pastel set which is a shameless splurge! The pencils feel smooth and ooh the colors are sooo gorgeous and are smudgeable without losing their brilliance! I took the advice of another reviewer and got a pencil case for them. Glad I did as while the tin box is fine~am saving it for totillions and other art necessities~ the trays really are quite flimsy~so thank you to the reviewer who mentioned getting a pencil case. As for sharpening the pencils I appreciate the sandpaper included in the little envelope. My set of pencils arrived in perfect condition and quickly. I am looking forward to doing a full drawing with them and at some point~pun intended~ may upload a drawing. Over all great service from Amazon, Seller, and product! Very happy with both! I love this pastel pencil set. The colors are vibrant, they go on easily and are easy to blend. One thing that I did change right away was the storage for them. I was concerned that if I dropped the tin the top would fly off of it and the pencils would hit the ground hard and be broken inside of the pencil casing. Not good. So I purchased a leather zippered pencil case for it which is much nicer. The pencil case is padded on the outside which would soften a fall, and the closure would keep the pencils inside. I think it is worth it to preserve the pencils especially when traveling with them.

To my surprise, this set has many colors that I love. I own many other brands but find myself using Cretacolor pencils most often.

I can’t tell if these pencils are so hard that a sharpener breaks the leads constantly, or if all the leads were already broken in the wooden sleeve. The upshot is the same: I’ve lost whole pencils trying to sharpen them (sharpener is great with 2 other quality brands) and really can’t use them at all.

I couldn’t sharp them, no matter how I did it, by hand or electric sharpener they broke …it seemed like the entire lead was broken I stopped trying after the third pencil.

I purchased those as complement to my soft pastels, as The Cretacolor ones are harder. Their quality is very nice! Beautiful colors with rich pigments, the pencils look very well made and are really excellent for detail work over layer of soft pastels. I truly recommend this set.

This are great for real artists with great grading of colours and easy to work with I use these alongside other pencil pastels

I was a little apprehensive when I first opened the package because the sleeve looks really worn, like these are old. But opening the package they are still sealed, come with some sharpening paper and booklets and the colour selection is fantastic. Can’t wait to use them.
