The Widow's Husband's Secret Lie: A Satirical Novella

Fredia McFadden did amazing with this novella. The book genuinely had me laughing out loud at some points. I love the twist in it; it was pretty funny and caught me off guard, too. I have already reread this book twice because it is that good. If you need a short and fun read, this is the perfect book; it goes by so fast and is a good page turner.

This book is a little too unreal. Good for a short read, but not my favorite from Freida. Still pretty decent though. Read it in like 2 hours.

Great satire! Love that McFadden is secure enough to make fun of the genre. And her signature suspense still remains intact!

Though marketed as a darkly comedic take on the genre, the humor didn’t quite land for me. The absurdity of the twists and over-the-top narration seemed to be reaching for a level of satire that never fully connected. As the story progressed, my interest waned rather than intensified. Perhaps it requires a certain mood or sense of humor to appreciate, but despite my love for satire, this one didn’t hit the mark. Even with its short length, it took me a week to get through the audiobook—never a good sign for a so-called "unputdownable" read. If you're a fan of McFadden’s style and enjoy exaggerated satire, it might work for you, but for me, it was more of a meh than a must-read.

Okay, I didn't hate it! I knew it was satire going in. I got a few good laughs. I'm also sitting here a little baffled and definitely speechless because what did I just read? 😂 It was fun. Freida, you never fail in making me question EVERYTHING 😂😂🙃

This book was good overall. Quick read, she included a bit of mystery like in her usual books but definitely lots of satire and nonsense😂 For the price, it’s worth reading in my opinion but definitely lower your expectations!!

I can’t decide between a 2-3 star. I laughed at times, wanted to keep reading at times. But, gosh was this different.

Interesting storyline, but a bit confusing. It was good, but not as good as some of her past stories and storylines.

The book came in perfect conditions. This was my third read by Freida McFadden and I have to say that it was pretty different from her other books. It was witty and very ironic. It definitely was a satirical thriller making you laugh and doubt the characters at the same time. If you’re looking for an easy, quick, funny read that has some mystery in it this is the book for you.

Freida is amazing! Not only does she write mind-blowing thrillers, but also she is able to brilliantly burlesque herself, and this book is the genuine proof. Constructed by the most ridiculous plot twists from her previous novels, The Widow's Husband's Secret Lie is amazingly funny and page-turner. Each (short) chapter is finished with cliffhanger, and with every plot twist you can literally hear her ironic laugh. A treat for fans of her works.

I love Freida McFadden books and have just ordered another six. When reading The Widow's Husband's Secret Lie bear in mind it is satirical. I found it amusing and laughed out loud at one particular part. It's a well written Mickey take.

Well, the story is short, and this is not too bad. We could have a better ending, but the book finishes suddenly, so is tipycal Freida McFadden style, silly and funny
