Sky Viper Vista HD Video Drone

For a cheap drone. It’s pretty sweet. Just to let it get too far away because it goes out of range very easily.

I recently ordered the Sky Viper Vista HD for myself and my son to start our journey into drone flying, and for the price, it’s a pretty sweet little machine. As beginners, we found the auto launch and land features to be absolute lifesavers, allowing us to get into the air without any prior flight experience. The 720p HD video looks decent on a phone screen, and the wide-angle lens gives you a great perspective of the neighborhood. One of the best features is the "Surface Scan" position hold; it uses optical flow to keep the drone in a very stable, drift-free hover, which made it much easier for my son to practice his steering. However, there are some very important "watch-outs" if you want to avoid losing your drone. Because this model is quite lightweight, you have to be extremely careful with the wind—even a moderate breeze can start to carry it away. Additionally, you should be very mindful of the distance. We noticed that it goes out of range quite easily, so you definitely don't want to let it get too far away from the controller, or you might lose connection. Pros: Beginner Friendly: The default flight mode is tuned for smooth video and easy handling for first-timers. Stable Hovering: The optical flow sensors work great to prevent the drone from drifting while you're trying to take photos. Fun Stunts: The one-touch 360-degree flips are a huge hit and very easy to pull off with a single button press. Great Value: You get a lot of technology—like an adjustable POV camera and a rechargeable LiPo battery—for a relatively low price. Cons: Limited Range: The signal drops off faster than expected, so you have to keep it close. Wind Sensitive: Its light weight makes it difficult to control in anything other than very calm conditions. Connectivity: If it flies out of range, it doesn't always have a "return to home" feature that works as reliably as more expensive GPS drones. Overall, I give this drone 4 stars. It is a fantastic choice for anyone looking to learn the basics of RC flight without spending hundreds of dollars. It’s a great way to bond with your kids while learning a new hobby, as long as you stay within a reasonable distance and wait for a clear, still day to fly.

I think it’s a good choice for drone beginners like me. The setup is straightforward, and the controls are responsive. You will need 3 AAA batteries to power the controller which is not included in the box, it only provides the battery for the drone only. The HD camera is a standout feature, providing good quality video for its price range. Overall it’s an easy to play drone for beginners.

Drone is fun and easy to fly but don't expect to be able to get good quality out of the camera. The camera can not be moved with the remote so wherever it's pointing is where it stays while flying.

Was connected via wifi (as directions), once up 10ft in the air , it disconnected and it went crazy and unresponsive, flew to a high tree and it’s sitting up there now without hope of getting back. My wife bought it at target, but wanted to warn Amazon shoppers. Not worth it

I ordered this drone at the $80 price point. It's a pretty good drone for the price - better than a kid or complete novice would use, but not nearly professional grade. It comes with extra propellers in case it crashes and one or two break. It is pretty easy to use, and the battery has lasted for a few hours at a time. (I recharge it after each use.) The video leaves a bit to be desired. It does not provide the highest video quality, but I consider the drone more of an advanced toy than a high quality drone anyway, and it is fun to see the images it sends. It is fun to fly in general, really... and a great toy for a teen or someone a little better than novice level. It is easy to keep stable while flying, when you become accustomed to the control. It's best to practice before sending it far into the air. Also, I have not let it go too far away, as I've seen other reviews that say that it does not maintain control over much distance. I have kept it in my back yard.

I have always wanted some aerial views (other than Google Maps) of our property, but I didn't want to pay someone else to bring over a drone to get this done. I decided to order this Sky Viper Vista HD Video RC Drone due to it's entry level budget price of $60 at the time of my order. I have never flown a drone before, but I have a lot of experience programming industrial robots and I have operated other radio controlled items. It was very easy to learn how to fly/control this Sky Viper drone. It helps that this drone has automatic take off and landing features for the first flight experience. The controller is very easy to use and many others will find its "feel in the hand" to be similar to video game controllers. Know ahead of time that you will need 3 AAA batteries for the controller. I REALLY LIKE that you do not need the app in order to fly this drone. The app is only needed if you wish to stream/record videos/pictures. The camera lens tilt can be facing forward for POV views or tilted downward for overhead views. The drone's solid, yet light-weight construction, makes it capable of living through most crashes. I will always leave the removable blade guards attached to help extend the life of this drone. ​I also like the two different flight modes available to the operator. Smooth Mode will provide a steadier flight experience. ​Sport Mode allows for faster control response and agile flight experience. I have found the max operating range of the 2.4 gigahertz controls to be approximately 100'. The CONS for this Sky Viper drone are few, but worthy of mentioning. 1: Only 1 battery is included with this package. I highly recommend purchasing 1-2 spare battery packs as the battery life is only good for approximately 10 minutes (real world experience). It will take me some searching to find a compatible battery pack that fits into the drone battery compartment. 2: The wireless connection between a cell phone and the drone can be a bit unreliable at times. I think the Sky Viper Vista HD Video RC Drone is a solid choice for drone newbies.
