Plug&Play splits Ethernet w/o loss or interruption. Technically, it's a switch, not a splitter.
There are a number of similar devices on sale here. I bought this one because the photos suggested a somewhat better build quality than the others … and there was a deeply-discounting coupon available at the time. On physical external inspection of the device, I still believe the build quality to better than the others; the case is of metal/aluminum and it appears to be quite precisely machined & constructed.I used it to split my modem's signal between my router and my (older) desktop. AND THIS GIZMO DOES FUNCTION EXACTLY AS IT SHOULD, DELIVERING FULL SIGNAL TO BOTH DEVICES (MINUS WHAT BANDWIDTH THE OPPOSING DEVICE IS CONSUMING AT-THE-MOMENT) simply by powering-it-up then plugging-and-playing. There was no interruption of signal to either the desktop or the router at any time.Btw, I found it best before plugging it all up to completely cycle everything: disable the desktop's Ethernet connection, power-down the router, modem & desktop, factory reset the modem, etc.Regarding my specific application, I had already observed an ISP technician use a meter to confirm that a full 1Gbps was coming out of the modem's Ethernet cable. So I bought this device to split my modem signal off (1) to direct Ethernet-hardwiring of my (older) desktop, thereby bypassing my wireless router that (I thought) was too slow to take full advantage of my incoming 1Gbps signal … and (2) to the router that is managing my other wireless devices around the house such as Rokus, Internet radios and so forth (that wouldn't use most of the full 1Gpbs speed anyway).HOWEVER after installing this splitter I saw no improvement in desktop speed. So I did what I should have done first. I connected the desktop's Ethernet cable directly into the modem (while my desktop was powered-down and after I did a factory reset on the modem). And the speed was still the same. So, by process of elimination/exclusion, it appears that in my case the desktop speed is being constrained by the actual (older) desktop itself. Accordingly I had no use for this splitter and I returned it.I did see a wee bit of streaming stutter in my Rokus while the splitter was installed … but that could have well been transient … as I had seen the same before I ever installed the splitter. At present, my best guess is that the stutter is being caused by intermittent drop/fluctuation in signal quality from the ISP. YMMV.Though it only says so in the title, this device DOES come with the needed USB-C cable, length 34". Needed because the device requires 5V USB power in order to operate. You'll have to obtain power from somewhere by plugging-in the other end of that cable, that being a 'classic/regular' USB plug. In my case, I used a USB wall-charger device like this [B0773BHCVD], as all the USB ports on my surge protector were already consumed. It also comes with a small English user's manual that you absolutely won't need.NOTE: Technically this device, and the other ones like it, are actually plug-and-play/unmanaged 2-port Ethernet 'switches.' They are NOT Ethernet 'splitters' in the true/traditional/historical sense. From days-gone-by, a true/traditional Ethernet splitter (that can only accomplish speeds <100Mbps) works by simply dedicating four of the Ethernet cable's eight wires to one device (one pair of wires for outbound and the other pair for inbound) and the other four wires to the other device. You can easily spot this type of splitter since it does not use or need any power source. Such a true/traditional splitter does not work >100Mbps because the current 'Gigabit-Ethernet 1000BASE-T IEEE 802.3ab' data transmission standards require, not just four wires, but the use of all eight Ethernet wires per device. So be careful and don't buy one of these as chances are good that it will only DECREASE the throughput to your devices. On the other hand, THIS plug-and-play/unmanaged 2-port 1Gbps Ethernet switch, and the others like it, require power because they have a small embedded PCB (printed circuit board) that is 'routing' traffic between the connections/devices … in the same way that an traditional router would (by keeping track of the IP and/or MAC addresses of connected devices within its own 'routing table,' reading the data packets to identify their destination addresses, and then forwarding the packets to the correct device accordingly). And, yes, they are using the current 'Gigabit-Ethernet 1000BASE-T IEEE 802.3ab' data transmission standards.(There are also some POWERED plug-and-play/unmanaged 2-port Ethernet 'switches' available that are being labeled as 'splitters' that can only accomplish speeds <100Mbps. They contain PCBs that use the OLDER 'Fast-Ethernet 100BASE-TX IEEE-802.3u' data transmission standards that have a built-in constraint of 100Mbps. So be sure the 'splitter' you buy states it will manage 1Gbps, not just 100Mbps.)If you actually need MORE than two ports capable of 1Gbps, you can buy a traditional plug-and-play/unmanaged 1Gbps Ethernet switch, a larger boxy-device with more ports -- as example the best-selling 5-port TP-Link TL-SG105 [B00A128S24] -- that does the same thing, the same way, for about the same price.

Nice quality
No science here and it works as intended.

Seems to be a good unit.
the instructions led me to believe, "after successful connection, the indicator light of the RJ45 port will light up", I took it to mean once all physical connection were made the diodes would light. Not So. Almost was going to return unit. BUT after turning on computers the indicators lit-upMy bad, or confusing instruction????
